Chapter 9: The Castle of Windknight's Lot, Learning a New Art

Damian POV

Windknight's Lot.

A small quaint town, south of London. There was a history to the place dating back to Elizabeth I and Mary Stuart. Now there wasn't that much too it until me and Dio had arrived.

On the nearby hillside was an old castle, towering over the town. The two of us had made the castle our domain and used this chance to bolster our numbers. From observing Dio, I'd learned the process to creating zombies.

The castle itself was large and held an unsettling vibe. Its appearance alone would deter any unwanted visitors. Of course if Jonathan learned of our location, I knew the atmosphere wouldn't be enough to cease his approach.

Speaking of Jonathan, I still had no idea of his whereabouts. He'd likely go back to his mansion first. But there was nothing left there, no, if he knew I was alive, or that Dio was alive, he would inevitably try and seek us out.

Another scream snapped me out of my train of thought as I walked towards the room Dio had claimed as his own. These sounds had been the norm ever since we arrived. And here it was where me and Dio differed once more in our methods.

I feasted only to sustain myself. The thirst was unbearable at times! However even then, I made the process quick, the person would feel nothing. Dio on the other hand was cruel in his efforts, resorting to downright sadistic methods.

I pushed the set of double doors just to see a woman's body fall to the floor. He'd removed his cloak, allowing me to get a view of the burns sustained at the Joestar mansion. He looked down at the woman before picking her up by the head and stating "My power is slowly returning. The food chain, pigs feed on the grass, humans feed on pigs. And WE feed on humans!"

He finished the woman off before dropping her to the floor once again. I scowled slightly at this, contrary to what many thought, I wasn't sadistic. An opportunist was a more accurate word. I also held little remorse to the cruel and those who wronged me.

However as I'd said before, I lived by a principle. 'Everyone deserved to take their steps in the world'. I had little issue harvesting from people as long as it was painless. However I refused harm to come to those who were innocent. Children and especially infants, they had not yet taken their steps. Dio may have viewed this as weak.

Dio turned to the now zombified Jack the Ripper who knelt nearby. "Bon appetit Jack." Was all he said, causing the zombie to shriek and lunge forward towards the body. I turned my head to Dio who explained to me "See Damian? We can start with a few wicked zombies. And then the world! It will all belong to us!"

I just silently nodded and spoke "If that's what you think is best." Dio eyed me for a moment, asking "Is that concern in your voice?" I shook my head, reassuring him "No no, of course not." Dio stated a simple "Good." Before he went on to explain "I'm going to send Jack the Ripper after Jonathan. That was we can nip that problem in the bud before it properly poses a threat."

My only response to this was a hum of acknowledgement. While I disliked my brother's over the top cruelty, I wasn't going to disagree with his statement. After this, I had nothing more to say, I turned and walked out of the room.

Since our arrival here, I'd devoted time to trying to gain an understanding of my newfound abilities. We'd only created a few zombies so far, they served as our testers. I soon found my way to the room I'd claimed, one that much like my brother's held a balcony giving me a view over the town.

In the corner of this room was a lone zombie. The one I'd used to test my abilities so far. He was a thief who'd attempted to ambush us shortly after our arrival at Windknight's Lot. He must have mistaken us for generic travellers. That was his mistake and because of it, he became the first zombie I created.

I went over to the balcony and for a moment, I just stared out. My attention turned to the view for a moment before asking "So, let us try this again, shall we?" I was speaking to the zombie and I was referring to something that had briefly happened.

When I'd first been draining the blood from the thief, I'd noticed a build-up of ice. In shock, I'd quickly withdrawn before returning to feeding normally. However this phenomenon remained in my mind and I aimed to recreate it.

The zombie instantly approached, exclaiming "As you wish Lord Damian!" For the most part, this zombie had maintained his human attributes. The only differences were his constant crazed expression, fangs and sharp nails.

As soon as the zombie was close enough, he stopped. I instantly thrust my hand forward, placing my palm on his chest and focussed my mind. I knew what I wanted, and that was the key. Focus.

And it was through this, the effect WAS replicated! From my hand, ice began to spread out. The zombified thief began to panic, screaming, however I spat "SILENCE!" I was genuinely surprised I was able to make this work. This was my second attempt, the first had yielded no results.

In mere seconds, the zombie's body was entirely frozen. Like a makeshift statue, I retracted my hand before abruptly swinging it down, shattering the ice sculpture entirely! Zombies were more durable than a human, however in an instant, I'd reduced the creature to nothing. The ice broke into chunks scattered across the floor of the room.

For a moment, I stood there, staring at my hand with wide eyes. I'd briefly witnessed this ability before when I used it by accident. But to see it once more, INTENTIONAL this time! It made me wonder.

What OTHER abilities did I possess?

Timeskip...

A knock on the door caught my attention, there was really only one person it could be so I responded "Come in." The door opened to reveal my brother, his burns had completely healed by now. However a look of rage was present across his face. I didn't even have chance to ask the problem before he snapped.

"Jack the Ripper has failed! I have been informed that JoJo is closing in on Windknight's Lot. Come! It is time we paid him a visit ourselves." At this, I froze up for a moment before nodding and saying "Yes brother." I stood up from the seat I was in and followed close behind.

Timeskip...

And this lead us to right now.

The two of us stood atop a large rock, the full moon cast behind us as we stared down. It had been simple to bring Jonathan to us. We hypnotised a local child to lure them here, NOT  bringing any harm to him mind-you. I made sure of that.

Either way, here we were. Staring down at a person who I knew I'd been seeing again. I just hadn't counted on it being so soon. Jonathan Joestar! We'd lured him and his cohorts to a graveyard and as night once again fell, we revealed ourselves.

Grinning, I spoke "Hello Jonathan. So GOOD to see you again."

Dio added "The sun is gone. Time for your lives to go with it!"

Author's Note: And that's it for this chapter. Sorry if it was kind of linear, this was more of a world-building chapter to show how Damian gained the freezing ability. The next chapter will hopefully be better since we have the first BIG fight of the story for Damian. I do hope you liked the chapter though and as always, thank you for reading.
