Chapter 2: The Meeting that Defined Destiny

WARNING: This chapter contains violence towards an animal! It will only  be brief but I felt I'd mention it nonetheless. If that upsets you, please either tread carefully or don't read! I have warned you.

Damian POV

The only sound to be heard was that of the carriage's wheels rumbling over the stone cobble path. No words were exchanged between me or Dio. I had my face reading intently through a book as Dio just sat in silence, his arms folded and eyes closed. I didn't know how long we'd been travelling or how long until we'd reach the Joestar mansion.

Soon, I closed the book and turned my attention to look out at the countryside. Living in the streets of London, I'd never fully gotten a glimpse at the fields and pastures the country offered. However even now, viewing a sight like this, my mind wasn't at ease.

And that's when the silence was abruptly broken when Dio spoke up, scolding me. "You're anxious. Stop it. Get whatever is bothering you out of your mind, it will only weigh you down." I turned to my brother to see his eyes open, glaring right at me.

I simply nodded, while me and Dio did have a good connection to each other. He was still very much a cold and heartless person. He always lectured me if I found myself second guessing my actions. This did cause me to ask "What do you think the Joestars may be like?"

In truth, I knew why we were coming here. The reason I asked that is because if they behaved a certain way, this could all be for NOTHING! Dio responded "It doesn't matter, either way, we'll take what is ours."

It was at this point the carriage finally came to a stop. Dio felt the need to state the obvious. "We're here." I nodded before saying "Okay." We each took hold of our respective suitcases and pushed the carriage doors open.

Instantly, Dio threw his case onto the stone floor in front of him and leapt from the carriage. Landing in a dramatic pose shortly after. As he got to his feet, his face hardened in his usual cold glare. I followed soon after, though less theatrically. Instead I just stepped out slowly and asked "Was that necessary?"

Dio didn't respond and instead kept his glare directly ahead. I followed his gaze and noticed stood directly opposite us was a boy about Dio's age, a boy with dark blue hair. For a moment he looked at us with confusion before a kind, gentle smile spread across his face.

He greeted "You're Dio and Damian Brando right?" I nodded and said "That's right." Doing my best to sound polite as well. Dio just grinned and returned "And you must be Jonathan Joestar." So, this was the Joestar heir?

Image of Jonathan Joestar:

Extending his hand outward, he spoke "Everyone calls me JoJo. Nice to meet you." I again, did my best to mirror with a kind smile "Nice to meet you JoJo. I look forward to getting to know you further." Jonathan's smile grew as he said "Likewise!"

It was at this point a dog's barking was heard. We all turned our attention to see a dog running towards us. Jonathan called out "Danny!" As the dog began running around, Jonathan extended his arms out.

Image of Danny:

"See him? That's Danny. He's my dog. Don't worry, he doesn't bite." That didn't stop Dio though, his expression turned to one of cruelty and malice as he thrust his knee out, striking the poor creature in the face! Causing it to fall to the ground with a whimper.

Even I was caught off guard by this. I knew Dio was cruel, this was our main difference. I could care less of the harm caused to our father, he deserved it. And taking the Joestar fortune was just our fate. However I drew the line HERE. I hated when harm came to an animal.

I snapped "Dio! What are you doing?!" Dio just let out a "Tch!" As I approached the animal and extended my hand out to pet it. "There there little one. It's okay, I'm sorry about him." The dog, Danny I believe he was called, whimpered before calming down as I stroked him further.

Dio's action hadn't gone unnoticed by  Jonathan though. Enraged he exclaimed "What was that for?! You'll pay for that!" Both him and Dio raised their fists up. I turned my attention from the dog to the two and stated "Enough, both of you!"

Neither listened though, it was only when another voice spoke, calling out "What's the matter?!" Again, we turned around once more to see an older man stood in the doorway to the large mansion. From his heavy resemblance to Jonathan, it was clear this was the head of the family who our father had gained a favour from.

The man approached, asking once more "What's going on out here?" Dio turned to him and spoke first, putting on the 'perfect child' act. "I'm sorry, the dog jumped at me. It was a reflex." I didn't interject, instead keeping my mouth shut for the time being.

Seemingly buying the act, the man gestured inside. We entered into a large open hallway and it was here the man greeted "Welcome Dio, Damian. You are part of our family now." Turning to the staff of the mansion as well as his son, the man who I now knew to be George Joestar informed, "Everyone, I owe my life to these men's father. Treat them as you would JoJo." The staff all bowed and spoke in unison "Yes my lord."

Turning to us, George Joestar continued "Both of you, this is your home now. Live like JoJo does." At this, both of us bowed. Dio stated "Thank you for your hospitality Sir Joestar." I said "We are grateful for all you're doing for us."

George walked up behind Jonathan and placed his hands on his shoulders. Leaning down he said "You've both lost your mothers and you and Dio are the same age while Damian isn't that much younger. You should get along well. JoJo, forget about Danny, alright?" Jonathan nodded and said "Okay. I'm sure I'd be surprised if a strange dog jumped at me so I understand."

Dio shot me a grin, I could tell what he was thinking. Before I could properly focus though, George called "This way you two. I'll show you to your rooms." I nodded and said "Yes sir."

Both of us went up to follow him however we soon became distracted by an object on the wall. A mask to be exact, made of stone. And it was at this point Jonathan had attempted to reach for our suitcases only for Dio to violently grab at his arms.

I turned around to see Dio hold Jonathan's arm up, making the heir gasp in pain. Dio ordered "Hands off! No one touches mine and my brother's bags! Keep your dirty paws to yourself! Got it?!"

Jonathan exclaimed "I'm trying to help!" Dio spun him around, snapping "No thanks!" As he elbowed Jonathan in the chest. I snapped more-so in annoyance "Dio! Stop!" I had a feeling he'd do this. Dio was more interested in bullying his victims, breaking their spirit. Seems that was the angle he was going for here.

Dio retorted "Don't concern yourself Damian!" Returning to Jonathan he said "I'll have a servant carry them." He proceeded to get extremely close to Jonathan, so his face was right near his ear. Even so, I could clearly hear him.

"Listen closely JoJo. I might be your guest. But I won't take any lip from you. I always come first! I'M number one! Even my brother understands that!" I scowled at him, just because he was the more physically tough of the two of us, he thought he was my superior.

He continued to hiss into Jonathan's ear. "No one looks down their nose at me!" Jonathan pleaded "But I just want to be friends!" With a smirk, Dio stated "Oh, and another thing. I hate dogs. They don't scare me. I just can't stand their bootlicking. So keep that dumb mutt Danny away from me."

The voice of George was once again heard. "What's keeping you three? Hurry along!" This caused Dio to let go of Jonathan and stood up. He called out "Yes sir!" With that, he walked past me up the staircase. As he crossed he muttered to me "I'd not touch the Joestar brat. He's a waste of time." I said nothing and instead looked back to Jonathan.

Slowly, I walked down to him and extended my hand out. Slowly and unsurely, he took it and as I helped him to his feet, I apologised. "I'm so sorry about my brother Jonathan." Jonathan asked "What's wrong with him? I just want to be friends with him!"

I shook my head "That's just the way he is. Again, I'm sorry." I paused for a moment before saying "I'd very much like to make a fresh start. If that's okay with you." At this, Jonathan smiled "I'd like that Damian. Thank you." And it was with that, our 'friendship' was formed.

However one thing no one could have predicted, was that the events that transpired at the Joestar mansion this day, would set in motion over a centuries worth of events...

Author's Note: And that's the second chapter done, the next one will kind of conclude the prologue act of this story. I really hope you enjoyed and as always, thank you for reading.
