The Suttons were just another broken family with some broken members. When they were hurt, they would stay together, and everything would seem to be alright. That was, until, they moved to Hawkins, Indiana, where nothing ever seemed to be alright.

The Suttons were no stranger to abnormalities; they had a calf die on them every New Years' Eve, and Eric was born on a leap year. Thankfully, those were the only weird things to happen to them before the infamous car crash.

When Cheryl Sutton was on her way home from working in Hawkins, she passed away from a mysterious car accident. Eric, the youngest, wouldn't believe that she was dead and just couldn't accept it. Her death was his detective problem for the next year. Brandi, the older child, stuck to her brandy and tried to drink her life away as if it could make her forget that her mom was dead. Danny, however, wanted an escape, and moved the family out to Hawkins, where they'd start over and learn to cope without Cheryl in their lives.

His plan would've worked, but Hawkins had ideas of its own planned for the Suttons, and they weren't exactly good ones.
