Chapter 4: Love Triangle

Levi and Hanji

Levi's POV

Sitting down at the science table, it was Hanji's favorite subject. Her notebooks were all decorated with different stickers for every subject. For science, it was decorated with stickers from her favorite show about titans. As much as I seen her science notebook... her handwriting was neat and clean... for every other subject, her handwriting seems messy, unable to read it correctly.

I hated this subject, hated science... but seeing how Hanji was here... I don't know how to explain it... but it was, enjoyable? The way she loved answering science-related questions, she would just light up with joy. I can see it in her eyes, sparkling with joy...

She's the only one that makes any day that seems gloomy into something so... enjoyable. Her personality is so rare... I guess that's why I don't mind her being crazy from time to time... but still, she's breathtaking. Erwin was up front, away from us. And that's when I saw it.

Hanji gazed at him, starstruck about it. Instantly, I knew she liked him... like I would fall for a crazy girl like her...

"Levi!" Snapping out of my thoughts, some people started to laugh as the teacher called my name. "Are you going to answer the question?"

"Sorry... what was it again?"

Greeted by laughter. Yeah, it seems funny that someone doesn't know a thing, but not to the person that's being spotlighted. Ms. Anderson sighed, shaking her head in disappointment. "This is review, okay? What's a mole in chemistry?"

Hanji started to shake in her chair, resisting to raise her hand or to blurt the answer. Just blank to the answer. "Uh..."

Everyone laughed. "Levi, you should know this." Her eyes gazed over to the girl next to me. "Hanji, will you please tell him the answer?"

"Moles are the basic measurement in chemistry." Of course she would get it... she spoke her answer, so swift and... mesmerizing.

Ms. Anderson smiled at her, knowing that she can always rely on her for answers. "Thank you, Hanji. Now, we're still going on about reviewing last year's lessons..." Everything was just nonsense to me.

Minutes passed by and I nearly passed out. Who loves being in a class that was this boring? But then, something woke me from my sleepy trance. Ms. Anderson's words just... woke me.

"Now, I want you guys to pair up for this new project. Don't worry, not gonna force you guys to be partners with someone you hardly now."

The whole class laughed, and it was something relatable. Been paired up with people I never wanted to be with, and hated it... well, Hanji was the exception... at first, I thought that she was gonna be that annoying little brat. But, she had her abilities. Soon, I was relying on her to get the project's information while I organized it, making it nice and clean.

"So, go and choose your partners. Once you're all paired up, I'll give you what you're working on."

She dismissed us, and immediately, Erwin started to make his way towards us. Step by step made my heart pound. Quickly, I turned to Hanji, who was also eyeing Erwin. I could see her eyes sparkling as he approached closer. Now or never.

"Hanji." She turns to me, breaking contact with Erwin. "Do you mind if we work together?"

"Um..."

Before she could answer, Erwin slammed his hand softly against the desk. "Hey, wanna work together?"

At this point, I just wanted to punch him in the face. I wanted him away... jeez, why am I getting violent with my friend? And here I was, thinking that I wasn't falling for Hanji... but I am. This weird feeling just arose in me... for some reason... like I felt this way around her before... but I never did. This was my first time actually feeling this way, but it felt that I have felt this way before. But when?

Hanji smiled at him, "Thanks for the offer, Erwin." As he was about to take a seat across from her, she laughed. "But Levi asked me first. I only accept offers when they're first offered to me. Sorry..."

Upon hearing that, for the first time, it made my heart flutter. Erwin shook his head in disappointment, and then... he stared at me. His eyes shot me with this look of jealousy and anger. I didn't want to work with him... and I could always rely on Hanji.

"Fine..." He walks away, emitting this aura, ensuring that no one would bother him.

Hanji sighed, turning towards me. The sight of disappointment in her eyes... "Hanji, you okay?"

She nods, "Yeah... I'm fine."

"You don't look okay..."

"Levi, I'm fine." Her eyes then grew intense behind her wired glasses. "Just... leave me alone. You got what? French next?"

"And you got Japanese?"

"Heh... I'm doing German as well. I'll see you at lunch, okay?" She says as the teacher hands us the assignment. Paper for each one. After the papers were handed out, the bell rings.

"See you then..." I watched her disappear into the crowd of people... away from me. "See you at lunch."

Hanji's POV

Walking towards Japanese class, I felt burdened by my choices that I made in the previous class. I had a chance to work with Erwin... but between him and Levi... I didn't know who to chose. Instinctively, I chose Levi.

I know him like the back of my hand. A small, emo boy who doesn't know how to make friends. A true introvert. Erwin, on the other hand, a popular, handsome guy that can make friends easily. I see how the girls stared at him for affection... and they got jealous of me. Teasing me because I was in their way...

But now... falling for both guys... I know I have to make the right decision soon. If I choose one guy, the other would have a grudge against me for choosing that person. What have I done? Now getting caught in the middle with two incredibly strong, and hot guys... and it seems they have one thing in mind. Me.

Erwin's POV

Sitting down in social studies class, I just wanted to punch something. Yeah Levi and I were never on good terms, but that doesn't mean for him to take something away from me. At least I tried my best to flirt with her... tried my best to see that I was the right guy for her... but what does Levi do? Have that emo look and the bad boy personality? Was he the kind of guy Hanji adores? But then, she looks at me with love as well.

"Erwin." I looked up to see Miche, sitting next to me. The way he looked at me, intense and probably scary looking if I wasn't used to seeing it on Levi's face daily. "You okay?"

"Yeah. I'm fine."

He sniffs the air, "Wow... you reek of jealousy and anger."

"All that by the air?" I scoffed at him. His habit of smelling things always amused me... all the time, he was right about what he smelled.

Miche shrugs, "Yeah... not to mention that you're sweating. Mind you, it's not even hot outside, nor is it hot in the school. It's so powerful that it's stronger than that cologne you've been wearing. Something for a special girl?"

Rolling my eyes, I pushed him gently, "Shut it, Miche. And yeah... it's for Hanji."

"Asked her out yet?"

"No... not yet."

"Something's blocking you, isn't it?"

Releasing a deep sigh, I told him everything. "Levi's the one that's blocking me."

"Ooh... ouch."

"Yeah. I did have a chance with her, to work with her on a project. But Levi asked her to be his partner."

"And she rejected you."

Scoffing, I nodded, "Yeah. Basically. Tell me, do you think Levi has a chance with her? Since he's... you know... a bit of a... delinquent?"

Miche shrugs. No one knows about Hanji's preferences towards guys. All I know was that she stares at me and Levi... almost in a lovingly manner. "I mean, they share an apartment with each other, Erwin. Maybe they have a relationship-"

"No, that can't be right. If they were boyfriend and girlfriend, well... they wouldn't be acting so nervously next to each other. And Hanji would've talked to me about it."

The bell rings, and Mr. Sandy walks in. "We'll talk at lunch, okay?" Miche says before he starts to focus on the board.

Everything should've been perfect... since I was the head leader of the student council, we planned a dance on October 12th... the Fall Dance. When we're allowed to announce the confirmation day of it, I can ask her out. As she said, she takes offers that were offered to her first. I'll take you to the dance, and perhaps, share our first kiss before the real world out there... alone without Levi in sight. I'll ask her out... before Levi does.
