Chapter 1: First Day

Part 1: Levi and Hanji

Levi's POV

"Tch, where is she?" I say, getting tense by every passing second. It was enough stress for me to take care of Hanji as she was my roommate. Now that she's late every morning- ugh, I don't even bother to wake her up.

Soon, 10 minutes passed and that Hanji never came out. School would begin in 20 minutes. Averagely takes us 10 minutes to walk there, an additional 5 minutes if we run into any trouble, leaving us 5 minutes of extra time to get to our classes.

"That's it, Hanji. I don't care if you're snoring out loud or drooling, I'm not taking my chances with you being late."

I walked back inside the apartment, climbing up the stairs to Hanji's room. We lived in the same hall, yet on different sides. We had different bathrooms, thank goodness. I can't even live to think that Hanji would tamper with my stuff.

Instead of taking a left, where my room was, I took a right. Hanji's door was decorated very childishly. Her name was written in Japanese, which she loved to write in, yet she spoke some German. Me? I speak French...

Knocking 3 times, hard against the door, I shout at the top of my lungs, "Hanji! Get up! We're gonna be late!" I banged on the door once more, shouting. Everyone in the building were at least at school... knowing this building is owned for the junior high school. Given to most of the seniors here.

I groaned, there was no way I could wake her up behind this wooden door... how did it slip my mind that she was a heavy sleeper? Gah... I have no way... I pulled out a paperclip that I had and my ID card, starting to pick the lock and open the door.

The door pops open and I was able to walk through. I don't understand how Hanji could survive in a room as dark as a cave. Her own little cave... The Hanji Cave, as she called it. Turning on the lights blinded me. Still, she never woke up.

"Hanji. Get up." I say, walking over to her bed.

Her limp arm laid hanging out of her bed. Her blanket was on her legs. Glasses were set on her bedside table while she snored and drooled in her sleep. It disgusted me, seeing the state of her room. Piles and piles of messy clothes, papers, and even books. Her trash next to her desk was overflowing with papers, crumpled into tiny balls.

But... this... reminded me of something. Call it a hunch, or déjà vu... but I felt that... I've been in a similar situation before. Shaking my head, it couldn't be. This room was overwhelming... sometimes, I hate my OCD.

I get real close to Hanji, close to her ear, and she's practically deaf either way. "Hanji! Get up!"

Her snoring stopped and her eyes flickered open. Whoa... the way I saw them... cute? No... it can't be. There's no way that I'm falling for her, not for a crazy scientist who's all about titans. I swear, she's not the right type for me. We're just... roommates... just roommates.

She slowly turns to me, rubbing her tired eyes. "W-Who are you? H-How did you get in here?"

"Tch, you are blind." I hand her her glasses, they felt... normal to hold. I never held them before; why was it so familiar? Déjà vu... what was it? It was like... like what Hanji once told me for her project, something about reincarnation. Did I hold these very glasses before?

Her hands felt warm as she touched my hand to retrieve her glasses. "Thanks Levi... tell me, how did you get in here?"

"Broke in."

"Jeez, can you do something that's not criminal-like? It's like you were raised in it or something."

That sentence sank deep in my heart. I did live in a criminal-like life... stealing food and small stuff, which my mother disapproves. That's why she sent me here... hoping that I'll do better. And I am. I hardly stole stuff from them... and that... Mom loved it. I felt happy... but then, I got Hanji as my roommate.

"Anyways, why did you come here?"

I checked my watch, seeing we were gonna be late. "Hanji, hurry up! We don't have that much time, you know."

She laughed, pulling her robe off of her body, which revealed her track suit. "Hold on! Grab me my jacket in the closet. You know, the scarlet one that I always wear."

"Tch, Hanji, you sleep in your clothes?"

"Yep. I know that I wake up pretty late in the mornings... so I wear my clothes for tomorrow." As soon as I turned around with her jacket, she was putting her hair up in a messy ponytail. Part of her hair strands stuck out, but she didn't care. She took the jacket from my hands and that she stretched. "Pass me my bag please."

Groaning as I picked her bag, it should've weighted as bricks... but since I went to the gym every other week and did constant workouts, I didn't feel a thing. "We're gonna be late, and I hate it when we're late. You do know that, right? Especially on the first day of our senior year here."

"I'm going, I'm going!"

She rushes out the door, and I hear her footsteps echoing down the whole apartment. So hyper, a child... but... it rose this... feeling within me... I swear, I felt like this before...

Hanji's POV

Heh, Levi hates it when I eat raw food for breakfast. As he was still upstairs, I opened the bag of bagels and adding some cream cheese on it. Once I take a bite, Levi pops up.

I waved at him, catching his attention, "Morning Levi!" One gaze at me and he groaned. Seeing how disappointed he was... well, it was adorable. It felt normal... teasing him everyday. It was... like déjà vu or something like that.

"What's wrong with you? Eating that raw? You need to toast it-" He checks his watch, "Hanji, we gotta run to school. You took that long."

Groaning, I took the second slice and got ready to run. Levi's keys were in the lock, too busy getting everything all locked up. Once I walked passed him, he closed the door behind me. The breeze felt nice against my warm skin. I needed the air... I loved hearing those bird chirping up high, singing their beautiful songs to their children and for us. How beautiful it was...

"Oi! Hanji." I turned over to see Levi, staring at my bagel in my hand. "You ready?"

"Wanna race?"

"No, I don't-"

"Last one there buys the winner lunch!" I say, running away from the angsty boy.

Couple times, I looked back, still seeing Levi walking slowly towards me. I laughed it off, taking every known shortcut I knew. I ran back onto the main road towards the junior high, but then... Levi was up ahead, jogging. Sometimes, I wonder about why Levi was like that... an introvert... a sad, lonely teen that probably liked someone. Most likely emo...

To be honest... I felt... attracted to him... was it bad boys like him that I enjoy being around? If so... Levi would be the perfect type for me... if he wasn't so insecure with himself. Was it normal for my heart to beat this fast when I'm around him? Must be... Petra acts the same way whenever she's around him. I swear, Levi's attracting so many girls, and he doesn't know it.

"Tch, looks like you're buying me lunch, four-eyes." His voice now... seemed so powerful.

I continued to run while I was thinking about him. So, I was almost out of breath by the time I arrived at the front door. How did I not realize that I was running? Running as my breath become heavy... "But... I'm broke..."

"Ugh, then get a job, I'm not gonna babysit you forever, you know." He rolled his eyes... something about those eyes that just... you know, makes your heart flutter like that.

"Ah, I'll try... can you help me?"

"Tch, getting lazy as well?"

"Excuse me?! Whenever we get tests, you're the one that doesn't study! I'm the one that stays up all night, trying to do well on the tests! And you call me lazy?!"

Once more, he rolled his eyes, "And what do I get on my test? 99%. You? 89%."

I just love it how I tease him, and he teases me back. But then... there's always that one person that thinks that we're dating... always. For the both of us, it was Erwin, Erwin Smith. Yeah... he's attractive when he's that tall, and his hairdo... oh, so hot. Shaking my head, my heart was tied... between bad boys and tall ones...

Levi, being the bad boy that attracts the good girls, and Erwin, the tall and strong man that leads others. Why am I feeling like this? First day at junior high... our last year here, and I'm falling in love- no, I shouldn't be.

Erwin's POV

After confirming my schedule with Hanji and Levi a couple days ago... we're sharing English class together. I waited and waited, but it was very unlike them to be this late. Levi, being the mother of the two, always ensured that they were in the place they needed to be on time. This wasn't right...

So, me being as paranoid as I am with them, I walked outside the classroom, completely aware that class starts in a few minutes. And then, I see the two of them... chattering. I stood in front of the front doors, chuckling and smirking as they walked up.

I could tell that they were flirting with each other, just by looking at Hanji. She's so flustered around him, and Levi doesn't notice about her odd... behavior... "Well! At least I studied! Not like you who sits around and not studying! Don't call me lazy-"

"I can call you lazy as much as I want to. Just like how I love to call you four-eyes."

"Grr! Levi!"

"Are you guys gonna keep flirting like that until you guys confess your love or something?" I shout at them, laughing at how Hanji's face grew red with embarrassment and Levi just scoffs. On his pale face, I can see that small blush on his face. There's no way that he can hide that secret when he doesn't get that much sun.

"E-Erwin! Shut it! W-We're not flirting or anything! Just chatting!" Hanji made things so easy to tease her... I must confess, she's pretty cute... and I know that she stares at me when I'm not looking... but then again, she stares at Levi the same way.

"Jeez, come up with something original, got it, Erwin?" Levi pushes me aside, and I know that his face is completely pink. I would say something to him about my comment, but then... Hanji was still nearby... and I didn't want to get beaten up by him, fully aware that he's been in some fights, and won.

"Welcome to the first day of senior year in junior high." I would love to watch their little love story grow...
