Direct impact from Hurricane Irma
I live in Naples Florida and if you saw the news, Hurricane Irma basically went right over us. It made landfall as a category 3 hurricane about half an hour south of where we live in Marco Island (a place I've been to several times). The eye passed over our house about 30 mins later.
We had to evacuate on Thursday because it was mandatory, so we are now in Virginia with some family. So I literally watched the news as they reported on the destruction of our town live from the safety of Virginia lol.
The damage isn't nearly as bad as predicted, in our area the storm surge was supposed to be 10-15ft and we only live 9ft above sea level, so our house should have been flooded. Luckily since the eye passed right over us we only got 3-5ft so our house is okay in terms of flooding.
In terms of wind though, a big palm tree in the front may have been tipped over according to a neighbor alone with some other small damages. But compared to the rest of our neighborhood we got lucky. Some of our neighbors' houses were pretty bad.
This is all according to a friend we have that stayed so I haven't seen the damage in person but that's what I hear.
It was so weird because I was watching the news here in Virginia of the storm when it passed our city and the news channel I was watching went THROUGH OUR NEIGHBORHOOD. Like when they were driving and talking about the storm they drove through our neighborhood. It was so weird.
If you want me to show the damage and stuff when we drive back to our house I will, just tell me.
But anyways, our city had the highest wind gust in the country... 142mph.
Pretty intense.
On other notes, it's 9/11 today.
I've always really felt close to this day for some reason. Will never forget the ones that died ♥️
9/11 means my birthday is soon, in 6 days I'll be 16. I'm old aren't I?
