Contest entry
A/N I have to write a story about my OC Hawktail meeting a pretty rogue :) I am in @Kitty0423's contest!
I glanced up at the bright sun, reaching its rays through the twisting and weaving branches of the surrounding oaks. Then I squinted and looked back down at the trail I was following.
My paws made a squishing cracking sound when I stepped on the snow. A scent of fresh-soon-to-be-kill tickled my nose, I looked up, and saw a small and skinny vole scuttling among the thin layer of snow. I immediately dropped into a hunters crouch.
Closer.
Closer.
Then a screech echoed within the maze of the forest.
I sprinted towards the source of the noise and found that it lead me to the edge of clan territory. I wondered what could have happened. Fox? Badger?
When the other cats in my patrol, Firepelt and Voleclaw, came into view. I began to settle down as I realized that no cat was injured. Yet.
Fear and hostility were practically radiating off of Voleclaw. He was always the aggressive cat in the clan, but I knew that he would never actually kill any cat. Firepelt had more fear scent coming off of him, being one of the newer warriors.
Then I began to survey the area and saw a white she-cat. She was beautiful. Her pure white pelt almost was in camouflage on top of the snow, except she had dirt splattered all over her pelt like she had ran to StarClan. When I looked at her, her bright blue gaze locked with mine. Then she looked away.
"Hawktail?" I looked over at Firepelt, crouching nervously behind me and his fur was standing on end. "What do we do?"
I decided to mark it easier for the she-cat. "Leave her to me, I'll deal with it."
And with that, Firepelt and Voleclaw padded away, slowly trudging through the snow and disappeared into the undergrowth. I believe that the only reason they obeyed me was because I was the deputy.
Then silence. I turned to the pretty she-cat and saw her crouching in the ground,
looking up at me like I was a monster.
My eyes softened when I saw her face. "It's okay, I won't hurt you."
"How would I know that you're not lying?" She stood up and stared at me square in the face.
I backed up a bit and looked at my paws. "You can't" I mumbled. "Who are you? You know that you probably shouldn't be beyond the scent markers."
"I just travelled here from my home in my yard, and have been watching you the past few days. I have seen that your little colony of cats collects and thrives off of the land, and I think that I would like to join. It just seems so nicer and better than the life of a cat who has no home.."
I hesitated. "Come with me."
I ran back to Creamstar to ask him to take in a rogue. The last time he had done that was before I was born. It was a grim chance, but I knew that I couldn't just throw her back into the wild. The she-cat had to sprint to keep up and I realized I had to slow my pace
By the time I got to the camp, the sun was almost at its highest. I was on the dawn patrol. I leaped up onto Highrock with the she-cat and padded into the dim enclosure.
Creamstar's Amber eyes lit up when he saw her. "Why hello there, what is it you want?"
The she-cat stood boldly in front of the important cat. "I would like to join your group of cats."
"ThunderClan, eh?" Creamstar chuckled. "What is your name?"
The she-cat was took by surprise by this question. "Well, uh.." She looked embarrassed. "I don't have one."
Creamstar glanced from me, back to the she-cat. "Hawktail, please let me decide alone with her."
I bowed my head and backed out of the leaders den. Excitement bubbled up inside my chest.

It seemed like an eon before Creamstar finally padded out of his den. He smiled warmly at me and stepped aside as the white she-cat ran towards me. She surprised me when she rubbed her muzzle against mine and purred.
"My name is Frostwind, and I am now a part of ThunderClan."
