Chapter 5

Yokoya fell. He'd been running for almost twenty minutes, and hadn't seen any signs of life. About ten minutes ago, he heard loud bang from the east. "Gunfire..." and now we were in the present, with Yokoya crying out as his left shoulder slammed into the mud. "Gah, stupid branch!" He stood up, using his hand in an attempt to get the mud off his jacket. His bag had fell onto the ground about two feet away, still unopened. "I guess... I should open that, huh?" He walked over and grabbed the bag, opening it. "Are... are you serious!?" He'd expected maybe a butter knife, if he got the worst possible item. What he got was a book. "'Riaru Onigokko', huh? Guess that's fitting..." It was almost laughable. He might have even been smiling. He put the book back into his bag and continued to walk. It had been five minutes when he heard the quiet click to his left. He spun around, and was met with the barrel of a gun. Holding said gun was Mayumi Sakurai. "Yokoya. You're a nice kid. So answer me. Has anyone died by your hands during this game?" Yokoya was still rigid from shock. Mayumi was a girl who only wanted the best for everyone, always helping those who needed it. And now she was holding him at gunpoint. She moved the pistol, a Sig Sauer P320, closer to his head. "Answer me!" "N-no, of course not-!" He inhaled sharply. Mayumi raised her eyebrows. "What's wrong. Oh, this is unrelated, but Daisuke walked out right before you. And his body is right near the entryway..." Yokoya's breathing had gotten rougher. He hadn't meant to kill Daisuke, but he doubted Mayumi cared. All she cared about was wether or not he had committed murder. And sadly, the answer was yes. "Mayumi, listen, I-" "SHUT UP!" She fired at the ground, missing Yokoya's foot by centimeters. "Give me a straight answer. It shouldn't be hard." It happened in under five seconds. A shot came from the woods, and then Mayumi's gun was on the ground. It took Yokoya another five seconds to realize her finger was on the ground with it. Mayumi let out a scream, gripping her now four-fingered hand. "You... you're horrible. Playing this game... you'll regret this." She took off in the opposite direction as the shot. Yokoya sighed in relief. "Wait, what if that shooter is gonna attack me, too?" He quickly whipped around to face the woods, where the shot originated. A figure was walking out, towards Yokoya. "Hey... who's there?" The figure didn't respond. "W-who's there!?" "Geez, you need to get better at this." Out from the woods stepped Katsu, and Yokoya almost shouted with joy. "Katsu...Katsu!" Yokoya ran towards Katsu, who caught him in a hug. Katsu laughed. "Since when are you a hugger?" Yokoya backed up. "Sorry, it's just-...I mean I didn't-... holy crap it's good to see you." Katsu nodded, giving a large grin. "I've been looking for you. Dude, you can hear gunshots from everywhere. Scary as hell..." Katsu struck a dramatic pose. "All I wanted was to see some bikinis!" Yokoya chuckled, something he didn't think he'd be doing. "So you got a gun, huh?" "Yessiree. Check it." Katsu held out the gun, grip facing towards Yokoya. He timidly took it. "A revolver..." It was a Ruger GP100, with only one bullet missing. Katsu scratched the back of his head. "I was super scared I was gonna miss and like, kill her." "Yeah. You had good aim." "Wanna just chill and like, eat for a while?" Yokoya nodded. They sat down and ate the bread they'd been provided("Taste like cardboard") and talked. They stayed like that for maybe an hour. "Dude, I wanna sleep..." Katsu had been yawning for a while. Yokoya stood up. "I can keep watch." Katsu sighed. "Oh thank god. I'm so...tired...? The hell is that?" Katsu was staring into the trees. His eyes went wide. "Is that...! Yokoya, get down!" Yokoya did as told, and saw a bolt of silver zoom by his peripheral vision. Once he was on the ground, he got a closer look at what the object had been. It was a crossbow bolt. Someone was trying to kill them. "Katsu, you okay?" "Fine! You?" "Good to go. But... we may not be." His eyes were locked onto the forest. He could hear someone approaching. And it was most likely the person who had tried to kill them. Would they show mercy, or...?
