Valentine's Day- Ethan and Will

The doorbell rang, and I rolled over in bed, my limbs dangling dangerously off the edge. Who the hell was at the house this early in the morning?

My bedroom door opened a minute later and I kept my eyes closed. Maybe I could fall back to sleep before anyone disturbed me.

“You idiot,” Will’s voice grumbled. “You’re going to fall off the bed.”

I felt his hands on my body, carefully lifting me so that I wasn’t nearly falling off the bed. He began to shake me, earning a displeased groan from me as I rolled over.

“Ethan, wake up,” Will said, shaking me harder.

“Mmmmf,” was my reply as I buried my face against my pillow.

“Come on,” he said, poking my armpit.

I yelped, shoving him away from me and scrambling back. I narrowed my tired eyes at him.

“Don’t poke my armpit. That is a sensitive and personal area,” I said.

“I’m well acquainted with all your sensitive and personal areas,” he said, pulling me so that I was sitting up. “Come on.”

                “What the hell,” I whined.

“Do you even know what day it is?” he asked.

“Uh…Saturday. Hence why I’m trying to sleep in,” I said.

“It’s Valentine’s Day,” he said, pulling me out of the bed and kissing me.

“Oh,” I said, furrowing my brow. I never really paid attention to Valentine’s Day. It was just a Hallmark holiday.

“You’ve never dated anyone on Valentine’s Day before,” he said, his arms wrapping around my neck. “Don’t get used to it, but I’ll be cute to you for today.” He kissed me again.

“This is going to be weird yet oddly pleasing,” I said.

“Let’s go,” he said, dragging me out of my bedroom and out to his car. I smiled a little as He Is We played out of Will’s speakers.

Will held my hand as he drove. I was aware that Will had dated in the past, and had probably done cute things for his girlfriends on Valentine’s Day. It was almost sad to think about. Will, going out of his way to make a girlfriend happy on Valentine’s Day, while fighting off the feeling that he just wasn’t into girls.

Well, then again, I’d heard that Will was kind of a dick in high school. So maybe he hadn’t gone too out of his way for his girlfriends.

Will parked the car at the park, and I shook my head. “You’re beating a dead horse.”

“You love dates at the park,” he said, getting out of the car.

I copied him, following him over to a shady tree. He sat down with a bag in his hands, pulling out several containers.

“Picnic at the park,” I said, seating myself in his lap.

He wrapped an arm around my waist and kissed the back of my neck. “It’s not original. But it doesn’t have to be original for you to like it.”

“Gee, thanks,” I said, but opened the food and began to eat. Will kept an arm around my waist as we ate in comfortable silence.

When we were done, Will pulled me down so that we were lying together on the grass. He stroked my hair as I cuddled against him.

“I’m sorry I didn’t get you anything,” I said, kissing him.

“I don’t want anything. I have you,” he said, burying his face against my neck. “You’re sarcastic, obnoxious, and frustrating. I love you.”

“How romantic,” I said, smiling a little. “You’re rude and I still want to shove a koala up your ass.”

He smiled a little. “You make me happy. Thank you.”

“You put up with me. Thank you,” I said.

“I got you something,” he said, reaching into his pocket. He pulled out a small, wrapped box.

“If you’re proposing to me, my mom will shoot you,” I said, taking the box from him. “I don’t think she’s ready to hand me over to a man who still lives in his parents’ basement.”

“Shut up and open it,” he said, apparently forgetting that he was supposed to be cute.

I unwrapped the box and opened it. Sadly, there was no engagement ring inside. There was a necklace inside with a silver chain. Hooked on it was a little charm in the shape of a video camera, and a little charm in the shape of #1.

“I got that when I won my first film festival in high school,” he said. “It was the most prized thing I owned. It was the start of my career, and my dream. I want you to have it.”

“You better hope we never break up,” I said, hooking it around my neck. I had seen him wearing it before.

“We’re not going to break up. That’s why I gave it to you,” he said, kissing me. “I love you, Ethan.”

“I love you too,” I said, cuddling against him and kissing him. I ran my fingers over the necklace, smiling. It was a small gesture, but it meant a lot to Will, and to me.

“I have dinner reservations for us at your favorite restaurant tonight,” Will said.

                “And after that?” I asked.

He wrapped his arms around my waist, kissing my neck. “I think you can guess what happens after that.”

I smirked. “I am beginning to love Valentine’s Day.”
