The Love Square- Teaser #1

“You seem distracted. What’s up?” Collie asked, keeping his voice down so that Mrs. Kinney wouldn’t yell at him for talking.

I shrugged nervously. “Nothing,” I said, not meeting his eyes.

“Did Colin do something to you?” Collie asked, raising an eyebrow at me.

“Oh, I love that boy,” I said dreamily. But then I frowned, remembering that I had that letter in my backpack. Was Colin freaking out over the fact that he had lost it?

Collie sighed in annoyance. “Ant, what did Colin do this time?”

“Oh look, a window! I just love windows. They’re just so…so…so…DAMN, I JUST LOVE WINDOWS COLLIE, GET OFF MY BACK!” I winced at low loud I was.

“Anthony Andrews! Shut up and stop being obnoxious!” Mrs. Kinney snapped.

“Can you tell me to shut up? God, you’re a teacher!” I said in surprise.

“Well I just did. So, shut up. No one wants to hear your annoying voice,” she said, sitting down at her desk and glaring at me.

“Yea, you’re one to talk. You’re like a walking dog whistle,” I grumbled.

                “What was that?” she demanded.

Collie snickered at me as I blushed. I shot Mrs. Kinney an innocent smile, praying that she wouldn’t show up at my house later and viciously murder me.

“I didn’t say anything, ma’am,” I said, batting my lashes at her.

She glared even harder and shook her head at me. She bent her head and began to look over some quizzes, ignoring me.

I let out a breath of relief and pretended to wipe sweat off of my forehead. “Crisis avoided,” I said, lowering my voice so that the walking dog whistle wouldn’t hear me.

“Yea, but you only avoided one crisis. Now, tell me what my idiot of a brother did to you this time,” Collie said, resting his cheek on his palm as he watched me calmly.

“Wow, check out that window! Again!” I said, turning my attention to the window on the other side of the room.

Collie gently gripped my chin and turned my head so that I was looking into his eyes. He blushed lightly and pulled his hand away.

“What did Colin do?” he mumbled, his gaze shifting away from me.

The letter flashed in my mind. “Colin didn’t do anything,” I said, shrugging at him. Hey, I was the one with Colin’s possible love letter in my bag. OH NO. Did that mean I was a thief?! That letter was for Emma, not me!

No, I planned on returning the letter the next time I saw the twins together. So surely I wasn’t a thief. Right?

I turned and gripped Collie’s shoulders tightly. The light blush that had been fading from his cheeks reappeared as he stared at me in confusion.

“Collie I’m a thief!” I whispered desperately. “A no good thief! Help me!”

He opened his mouth and I slapped a hand over it, shaking my head. “No, no! Sh! Don’t speak; it’s okay. I understand. I’m a horrible person.” I released his shoulders and slapped my hand over my heart dramatically. “This sick world has made me a bad person. I stole a letter off of the ground!”

“Ant, what in the hell are you talking about?” Collie asked in complete confusion.

“Whoops. Forget you heard any of that,” I said with a small smile, blushing. Crap, I couldn’t let Collie find out I had Colin’s letter. Just shut your overdramatic mouth Ant!

“Right…” Collie shook his head at me and turned his attention back to the book we were supposed to be reading.
