Summer Story
Hey guys! So with summer coming up, I want to try focusing on just one story to post (because I'll also be starting a new Radish story soon, so I can focus on one for Radish and one for Wattpad). With that being said, I want to know which of the 3 stories I'm working on you guys are most interested in!
Now as a lot of you know, sometimes I post previews for stories and then never post the actual story. Writer's block happens and projects I'm excited for never see the light of day in the end. But I'm going to try to follow through with whatever one of these 3 you guys pick. So I'll post a little except and the rough draft description of the story (the descriptions are super rough drafts, so I apologize for how shitty they sound). All titles, character names, and descriptions are just rough draft things I'm working with right now and might change. Just let me know which story sounds the most interesting to you!
Story #1- The Summer We Were Kings
(A.N.- For those of you who read the first chapter of this, I changed Nolan's name to Neil because I kept typing Neil and I was sick of changing it)
"This is going to end horribly," Neil said. "I can hear the coyotes already."
"We've only ever seen the coyotes at night," Santiago said dismissively.
"Comforting," Neil grumbled.
We stepped forward and into the forest together. The trees were thick, keeping the area shadowed and cooler. We walked the familiar little path that we had for years, giddy with excitement. We were going into an unknown area.
"Are there really coyotes in here?" Jordan asked.
Santiago shrugged. "We hear them at night, sometimes. We've seen in our yard before. Foxes, too."
"On a totally unrelated note, who's the slowest out of us?" I asked casually.
"You if I trip you fast enough," Neil said.
I slowly inched away from him. "Neil, if you let the wild animals eat me, I swear to god I'm going to come back and haunt you. My ghost will come and steal one sock every time you do laundry for the rest of your life."
"There's mean and then there's just pure evil," he said.
"Watch out for ticks!" Santiago teased, shoving me into a thick growth of plants.
I stumbled into them and caught myself on a tree trunk. "Santiago, you ass! There are prickers here!"
Neil snickered. "It's karma for threatening my socks."
I pouted and slipped out of the plants, rejoining my friends. I glanced over my shoulder and realized that Santiago's house was quickly fading from sight.
"Watch out for quick sand," Santiago cautioned.
"I'm so glad this is how we're spending the day," Neil said.
"You're so moody," Jordan said, smacking him on the shoulder good-naturedly. "Lighten up!"
"What if we don't know how to get back out?" Neil asked.
"We will," Santiago said confidently. "I've been following that steam to your left. We can find our way back as long as we have that in sight. It starts a few feet in from the entrance."
I looked around me at the scenery as we continued walking. The trees were abundant, some clustered closely together. A lot of them had broken limbs hanging off of them.
There were scattered tree trunks and fallen trees. The little stream we were following trickled down at an easy pace. Leaves littered the floor of the forest alongside tufts of overgrown grass and plants and flowers.
Some areas of the ground were bald, showing nothing but dirt and poor attempts at grass. There were fairly large rocks throughout the area. Trees were in various stages of growth and twigs snapped under our feet every couple of steps.
Santiago suddenly broke free of our group, running forward and throwing himself up at a tree. His hands caught a low hanging limb and he hoisted himself up onto it.
"Iago, get down!" I said, gesturing at the broken limbs on the trees.
But Santiago just grinned and shook his head, crouched on the limb of the tree. "No way. Look how far in we are!"
I turned and, sure enough, there was nothing behind me but forest scenery. No sign of Santiago's house.
"This is new territory, Dec," he said, leaning against the trunk of the tree and spreading his arms wide.
"He's going to snap his damn neck," Neil said.
"I'm not going to be the one to tell his mom," Jordan said.
I sighed. "Santiago, please don't kill yourself up there."
"Death can't touch me up here," he said, fondly patting the trunk of the tree. "Come join me."
"Hell no. That limb will snap with combined weight on it!" I cried.
He crouched down again and held his hand out towards me. "Trust me!"
I mentally groaned and walked over. I looked up, trying to judge how well the branch would hold up under the combined weight. I looked back to my friends for help, but they just shrugged helplessly at me.
"I think it's a bad idea. But no one ever listens to me," Neil said.
I turned back to Santiago and let him grab my hand. He hauled me up onto the limb with him and I gripped him for dear life, waiting for the branch to snap and plummet us to injury.
But it held steady and Santiago's grin got even wider. "This is our forest now."
"What, are we kings?" I said, raising an eyebrow.
His eyes lit up. "We are kings. Right, Neil? Right, Jordan?"
"What?" Neil asked, moving closer to us.
"We're kings!" Santiago announced. He slung an arm around my shoulders. "We're the kings of this forest now."

Story #2- Conversion Academy
Before I got a chance to reply to that, the classroom door opened. Everyone watched as the teacher came back in.
He eyed the board, looking at Kaz's handwriting. "Casimir, this is your work?"
"That it is, Sternberg," Kaz said.
"That's Mr. Sternberg to you," he said, curling his lip in disgust. "Stop by my desk at the end of class for your detention slip."
Kaz spread his hands. "I'm trying to spark a discussion. It's a quote from Paradise Lost."
"I don't care what it's a quote from." Mr. Sternberg picked up the eraser and wiped at Kaz's words. He scribbled the assignment back on the board and glared out at the class. "Everyone get to work. No talking."
I looked around as everyone pulled out a book, flipping through it and beginning to write. Mr. Sternberg was seated at his desk, looking through a stack of papers.
"Hey," I whispered to Pete. "What's the book?"
"I said no talking!" Mr. Sternberg barked. "Or would you like to join Casimir in detention?"
"I don't have a book, sir," I said. Oh god I hated when people yelled at me. For someone whose natural response to 90% of everything was "fight me", I cried way too easily.
I looked around as everyone stopped writing. They were all looking at Kaz with anxious expressions. Oh god, what now?
Mr. Sternberg got up and grabbed something out of his desk. He came over and slapped down a book on my desk before sitting back down.
I picked up the book and had to choke back laughter. Was this really my freaking life now?
"New Testament - Psalms Proverbs" was written across the cover of the book in gold lettering. I flipped it open and my eyes scanned over the passages.
I glanced around the room again, but kids were back to writing in their notebooks. Kaz was scribbling something on a piece of paper, which he folded and slipped to Pete.
Pete unfolded the note after checking to make sure Mr. Sternberg wasn't paying attention. He read whatever was written there and gave a slight nod at Kaz, slipping the paper into his pocket.
I checked the instructions on the board and began to work on the assignment, which was to pick a passage from the book and write my thoughts on it. The class was eerily silent, everyone keeping their heads down as they worked. Mr. Sternberg, when he was finished looking through the papers, watched us like a hawk.
The bell rang a while later and everyone got up. Kaz walked up to Mr. Sternberg's desk and held out his hand. Mr. Sternberg slapped a detention slip into it.
"Thanks, Sternberg. The room could use a little confetti to make it more cheerful," Kaz said, tearing the paper to little shreds and sprinkling them across the floor.
"Casimir!" Mr. Sternberg yelled as Kaz grinned and slipped out of the room. Mr. Sternberg clenched his fists, glaring at the torn slip on the floor with hatred.
Someone bumped my shoulder and I looked up at Pete. He gave me a sympathetic look.
"Shit Killian, I don't know who's going to break you first; the teachers, or Kaz," he said. "Good luck, newbie."
He left the room and I watched him go in shock. What the hell? What had I done?
The other kids carefully avoided me as they left the room. I checked my schedule and left the room as well, trying to ignore the sinking feeling in my stomach.
Was playing tonsil hockey with a cute guy really worth all this trouble? My brain screamed hell no, but a part of me located farther down screamed hell yea.
I found the next classroom and walked in, realizing that it was pretty much all of the same kids from my last class. They didn't stare at me this time, though. They were clustered around Kaz, whispering.
"Hey, newbie, what landed you in Conversion Academy?" a girl asked, perched on Kaz's desk.
"My name is Killian," I said, standing awkwardly since I didn't know where to sit. "And that's none of your business."
"I don't have a book, sir," the girl mocked. "So you can be sassy to us but not to the bastards who run this place?"
"I'm not trying to get detention on my first day," I said, hating the defensive tone my voice was taking on. I'd never been in trouble before at school. Well, that was a lie. I'd gotten sent to the principal's office in the second grade for singing "I see London, I see France, I see Taylor's underpants" (Taylor called me a pervert right up until my parents shipped me off to this hell on earth- god, you mock a girl's underwear when you're seven years old and you never live it down).
"Don't bother with him, Cara. Just let the teachers break him," Kaz said. He looked at me and gave me a lazy grin. "And trust me, newbie. The teachers will break you so damn fast."
Description: When Killian's parents find out that he's gay, they decide to send him to Constance Academy in hopes of fixing him. Nicknamed Conversion Academy, the brutal school is known to the students for its harsh methods implemented to change their behaviors. Kaz Warrick is a problem student who gets a kick out of pissing off the faculty of the Academy, drawing Killian into his outrageous schemes. Killian quickly comes to realize that he's in over his head as he and his new classmates fight a battle against the staff that's trying to break their spirits and change who they are.
Story #3- The Colors Of College
There was a knock on my door and I hastily pretended to be busy. "Come in!" I called.
Noah opened the door and the scent of food drifted into my room. "Dinner is ready," he said.
I stood up and followed him out to the dining room area. Finn and Kai were seated, flicking a quarter back and forth to each other.
"Smells good!"
I jumped as Zero's voice came close to my ear. He had appeared next to me, smiling and sniffing the kitchen.
"Sit down," Noah said to the two of us.
We obeyed, taking our seats at the table. I sat next to Finn and Zero sat next to Kai. Noah came over with several cheeseburgers, sliding each of us one of them.
"They taste good," Finn said. "Not too overcooked. Good job, Noah."
"No one knows how to handle meat like me," Noah said proudly. He paused and let out a nervous laugh. "You know, cook it! No one knows how to cook meat like me!"
"Hey, new guy, what's your major?" Kai asked me.
"Mass communications," I said. "And a film minor."
"Guess we'll be seeing each other a lot," Zero said cheerfully.
"You are, too?" I asked. He nodded. Great, just my luck that the most annoying one would be in my classes.
"Does anyone else want a water?" Finn asked, standing up. I had noticed that he talked very loudly.
"Grab everyone one," Kai said.
Finn tossed everyone a water bottle before sitting back down. Finn, Kai, and Noah began to talk about what they had done over the summer. I sat quietly, just listening to them, to the close way they talked, to the way they laughed at jokes that made no sense to me. I felt like I didn't belong anywhere near this conversation. I was not their friend.
"Hey, Zero, what did you do all summer?" Noah asked.
"I kept myself busy," Zero said, smiling. He turned to me. "And you, Kota?"
"Huh? Oh, uh, I didn't do much," I said, aware of how horribly lame I was. "Just worked and spent time with friends, I guess."
"Oh, exciting." Zero leaned back, his chair tipped at a dangerous angle. "Do you have a lot of friends?"
Not at all. "I have a few close friends."
"How many?" Zero asked. He was grinning now, an excited gleam to his eyes.
"Hey, Zero, if you listen closely, you can actually hear the sound of you shutting the fuck up," Kai said.
"I'm just curious!" Zero said.
"Curiosity killed the cat," Finn said.
"Are you saying I'm a pussy? Is that why Noah doesn't like me?" Zero said, frowning.
Noah choked on his food. "Zero!"
"Aw Zero, you made him choke on the meat," Kai said, snickering. "Although I'm sure he's used to that by now."
"Zuko, I'm not gay!" Noah said, throwing his water bottle at Kai.
I didn't know whether or not I was supposed to laugh, so instead, I just gave an awkward half laugh. Noah sighed and ducked as Kai threw his water bottle back at him.
"You're so uncomfortable," Zero said to me, cocking his head to the side curiously.
"Zero!" Finn's voice was sharp. "Eat your food."
Zero looked more curious than before, but he obeyed Finn, resuming his eating. Finn's face had gone as sharp as his voice, making him look a little angry.
"Hey, family dinners aren't supposed to be awkward," Noah said, lightly smacking the back of Finn's head.
Finn pushed his hand away. "They wouldn't be awkward if Zero had a damn filter."
"Filters are for fish tanks." Zero was grinning again.
"Which is where we're going to stuff your body if you don't shut up," Kai said.
"Scary." His grin grew and he took another bite of his burger.
Description: After a miserable series of events, Kota finds himself stuck rooming with four strangers for the year. Noah, Kai, Finn, and Zero are a quirky, close-knit group of friends trying to adjust to their new roommate. Kota takes an instant dislike to Zero, who lacks social skills and a sense of personal space, but is horrified to find out he shares so many classes with the odd boy. Having lived his whole life trying to remain invisible to the people around him, Kota is about to discover the joys and setbacks of being fully seen for the first time.
Okay guys, so please just let me know which of those 3 you're most interested in, and I'll focus on that!
