Outcasts- Teaser

The brothers led us down to their basement. We sat down on the floor as Jimm grabbed cards and spoons.

“Might as well play,” he said with a shrug, setting up the spoons.

“So you were really born a boy?” Josiah asked me.

“Yes Josiah. I was really born a boy,” I said, resisting the urge to slap him.

“This is like a really bad Ouran High School Host Club fanfic,” Lea said. “Except that it’s real life, and you’re really just that damn beautiful.”

“I’m not sure if that’s a compliment of an insult,” I said.

“Take it as both,” Josiah said.

Jimm passed out cards to all of us and we started playing. I grabbed a spoon and watched as the others fought for the remaining ones.

“HA! I WIN! YOU ALL SUCK!” Chance cheered, waving a spoon in the air triumphantly.

“Chance, the only one who lost was Lea,” Jimm pointed out.

“Aw, shove it Jimm,” Lea grumbled, pouting down at her empty hands.

“Cheer up Lea! We can’t all have amazing reflexes,” Josiah said, waving his spoon in her face.

“And we can’t all have a foot up our asses. Only you get that privilege,” she said, kicking Josiah.

He whined and ducked behind me. “Save me Jules! Maybe Lea won’t hit a girl!”

“I’m not a girl!” I said, pushing him away from me and towards Lea. “I’m a boy!”

“A very beautiful boy,” he said, laughing. He sat upright and grinned at me. “Don’t worry Jules. We normally bully the soulless ginger over there, but now that we have you, we can bully you instead!”

“I’m not soulless,” Jimm said, chucking the deck of cards at Josiah’s face.

Josiah gathered the cards up and pushed them into my hands, sticking his tongue out at Jimm. Jimm rolled his eyes.

I smirked, suddenly getting an idea. I pulled the 4s out of the deck and threw them at Josiah’s face.

“Hey!” he said, swatting at the cards. But then he looked down and his face paled as he noticed that there were four 4s.

“Throw another one at me!” he cried, panic rising in his eyes. “You can’t just throw four cards! OH GOD YOU THREW THE FOUR 4S! WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK JULES!”

He scrambled away from the cards, nearly knocking Lea over in the process. Lea, Jimm, and Chance laughed as they watched him.

“I think I like this kid,” Jimm said, nodding at me in approval.

“Friendship over!” Josiah cried, burying his face in his hands.

“Aw, toughen up you big baby,” I said playfully.

Josiah pulled his face away from his hands, looking at me with puppy-dog eyes, his lower lip quivering. I sighed.

“I’m sorry,” I said and tossed a fifth card at him.

“YAY!” he cheered, hug-tackling me to the floor.

I found myself laughing as we fit the floor together, his arms around me. The others were watching us in amusement.

Josiah beamed down at me. But then he blushed and hastily released me, sitting up and pulling me with him.

“Uh…So let’s start another game and give Lea a fighting chance!” Josiah said, not looking at me as he picked up the cards and began to shuffle them.

                Huh, well that was strange.
