Cutest Couple Contest- Theo and Dimitri

“Gah, what do I wear?” I mumbled, searching through my drawers.

“Theo, are you trying to plan out an outfit for your date?” Thalia asked, suddenly appearing in my bedroom doorway.

“NO!” I snapped, spinning around to glare at her and fighting off a blush. “Why would I work so hard to pick out an outfit for a date with Dimitri? Not that this is a date, by the way. He and I are just hanging out.”

“You guys have been dating for forever, and you still barely acknowledge him as your boyfriend,” she said, laughing. “You’re so mean to poor Dimitri. No wonder his brother hates you.”

“Galen is the freaking devil,” I grumbled. That kid glared at me constantly. It was at the point where Mr. Ivanov literally had to toss the brat over his shoulder and march him out of the room when I was over.

“Only to you. He likes everyone else,” Thalia said, coming in and sitting on the edge of my bed. “Why not wear the shirt Dimitri’s mom gave you?”

Mrs. Ivanov owned a clothing company, and had offered me some clothes from it. They weren’t as outrageous as the ones she gave Dimitri to wear, but they were a little brighter than what I normally wore.

“Nope, I’m just going to wear my usual clothes,” I grumbled. “I’m just hanging out with Dimitri. There’s no need to dress up all special for him.”

I grabbed a plain grey shirt and pulled it over my head. I was already dark jeans, and my hair was lying on my head in its usual style.

Thalia rolled her eyes at me. “Whatever. Oliver is coming over in a little, so you and Dimitri want to get out of here before he sees you. God forbid anyone acknowledge Dimitri as your boyfriend.” She was watching me with a look in her eyes that said she knew something I didn’t. She got up and winked at me before leaving my room.

I moved to head downstairs and paused before sighing. I grabbed Dimitri’s favorite purple scarf and wrapped it around my neck.

The doorbell rang and I froze, my heart hammering. I shook my head and turned, hurrying out of my room and downstairs. Why did I still get so nervous when I was with Dimitri? We had been dating for months!

“Hey, you’re not Dimitri,” I said as Oliver followed my dad into the kitchen.

“You make it sound like that’s a bad thing,” he said.

“It’s not. I just thought he would’ve been here by now,” I said.

“You know Dimitri. He always has to be fashionably late,” Oliver said with a shrug. “I bet he was even born late.”

“Most likely. But even he’s not usually this late,” I said, checking the time on my phone.

“Maybe he forgot?” Oliver offered with a shrug.

                “I don’t think I’m that lucky,” I said with a sad sigh.

“My feelings are truly crushed, little Theodore.”

I jumped and spun around to face my kitchen table. Dimitri was sitting there casually, my mom across from him.

“How long have you been there?!” I cried.

“About ten minutes. Your mother sent Thalia up to check on you. I was informed that you were taking quite a while to get ready,” he said, a smug smirk on his face. He turned to Oliver. “By the way little background character, I was born late. I was born a week after my due date. And you were also correct in saying that I’m always fashionably late.”

“You’re also impossibly obnoxious,” Oliver said.

“But at least I’m important, unlike you,” Dimitri said, his smirk growing.

“This guy is crushing Tholiver,” Oliver said to me with a frown.

“No one can sink Tholiver,” I reassured, patting his shoulder.

“Well, I’m off to go hang out with your sister because I like her more than you,” Oliver said before disappearing out of the room.

Remembering that knowing look in Thalia’s eyes, I glared at Dimitri and my mom. “You guys are jerks. I was totally ready. I was waiting for Dimitri to show up.”

“Thalia dear said you were topless and angrily mumbling to your clothes,” Dimitri said.

“Thalia is senile. Now let’s go,” I said, going over and tugging him out of his chair.

“Bye boys. Have fun,” my mom said.

“Dimitri, make sure Theo doesn’t do anything stupid,” my dad said.

“Dad, you just asked a man wearing glitter to babysit me. You have issues,” I said, raising an eyebrow at him.

“And yet you’re the one dating the man wearing glitter. Have fun!” He pushed us out of the house and shut the door.

“I hate them,” I grumbled, following Dimitri into his car.

“Your family is quite wonderful and amusing. I enjoy them,” he said, pulling out of my driveway.

As usual, Dimitri had random music blasting out of his speakers. But I guess I couldn’t complain today, since he was playing Billy Talent. Billy Talent was my all-time favorite.

“So where are we hanging out?” I asked after a few minutes.

“Little Theodore, you know perfectly well that we aren’t hanging out. We’re going on a date. Why don’t you ever call it what it is?” he asked, looking at me in amusement.

“Where are we going?” I asked.

Dimitri chuckled. “You’ll see when we get there.”

He was outrageously dressed, which was normal for him. He was wearing purple shorts with a trippy as hell shirt that was a headache-inducing explosion of colors, shapes, and random patterns. He had a pink vest on over his shirt, a light blue scarf around his neck. His arms were stacked with bracelets, his nails were glittery black, and his hair was in its purple fohawk.

He pulled into the parking lot of a restaurant and parked the car. “We’re here!” he said cheerfully.

“We’re just getting dinner?” I asked, not really all that surprised. Nothing made Dimitri happier than a simple date, even if it was cliché.

“Well dinner isn’t all we’re doing tonight. But I thought it’d be a nice start,” he said, holding my hand as we entered the quiet restaurant.

“Two?” an Asian man asked us. We nodded and he led us to a table. After eyeing Dimitri’s appearance, he took our drink orders and went off to fetch them.

“Did you want to do something more extravagant?” Dimitri asked, setting his menu down and regarding me. His scarf highlighted his eyes, making them look like a pure blizzard today.

“No,” I said, not looking up from the menu. “This is fine.”

He reached over and pushed my menu away from my face, looking into my wet green eyes. A smirk was dancing on his lips.

“Little Theodore, you’re so contained. It’s almost like you don’t want to be here with my fabulous self,” he said.

I pulled the menu back up to hide my face. I did want to be here with him. I wanted nothing more than to be here on a date with Dimitri Ivanov. I had fallen deeply in love with him.

But I couldn’t just be all mushy with him all the time! I was a man, dammit. And men did not act like love struck girls all the time.

The waiter came back with our drinks and took our food orders. He grabbed our menus and went around back to make our food for us.

“Now you don’t have a menu to hide behind,” Dimitri said, propping his elbow on the table and resting his chin on his palm. “And I’m very grateful about that. You’re too beautiful to be hiding that face of yours, darling.”

I blushed and sipped on my drink, my gaze fixed on the table. Dimitri always managed to make me blush.

He stretched his long arm over, tilting my chin so that I was looking into his eyes. He leaned over the table and kissed me.

He broke away and grinned in satisfaction as I blushed again. He reached over the table and laced our fingers together.

I glared out of the window next to our table, hating the smug smirk that had evolved onto his face. He always wore that smirk.

Still, I found my thumb rubbing circles on to back of his hand. The waiter came and set our food down after a few minutes. Dimitri went to pulled hand away from mine to get his fork, but I gripped his hand, not wanting its warmth to be taken away.

Despite the smirk that remained on his face, Dimitri’s frosty eyes softened and he squeezed my hand lightly. He grabbed his fork with his free hand and began to eat.

I copied him and we ate in comfortable silence. When we were done eating, I finally looked up at Dimitri.

“How’s your latest drawing coming?” I asked him. He also got random inspiration for drawing. Once he started drawing, he tuned out the rest of the world until a rough draft of what he was aiming for was done.

“I’ve nearly completed it. There’s one more thing that has to be done with it, and then it’s complete,” he said. “How’s your paper for your economics class coming?”

I rolled my eyes. “That’s a boring topic, Dimitri.”

“No, I’m truly curious. You want to go to college to teach economics, after all,” he said.

“It’s going alright,” I said, dropping my gaze. He may not seem it, but he really could be a thoughtful person.

The waiter came back and set down a check. I reached for my wallet with my free hand, but Dimitri reached over and gripped my wrist.

“None of that,” he said. “I’m paying.”

“You paid last time. I’m paying,” I argued.

He leaned over and kissed me, deep and passionate. I found my head fogging up as I kissed him back.

He broke away from me and released my wrist, pulling out his wallet and setting down money. I tried to recover myself, but by the time I had, Dimitri was already pulling me out of the restaurant.

“I’m paying next time,” I said sternly as we got in the car.

“And I’m the Queen of California,” he said.

“California doesn’t have a Queen,” I said in confusion.

                Dimitri smirked. “Exactly.”

“Jerk,” I grumbled. “Just you wait and see. I’m paying next time! You’re not stopping me.”

He parked the car and turned to me, raising a thin eyebrow. “Oh my. Little Theodore, are you starting to hate me again? I better fix that.” He let out a dramatic sigh before cupping my face in his hands and kissing me roughly.

I wrapped my arms around his neck, pulling him closer to me, wanting him. He twisted in his seat, pressing his hands against the window on either side of my head so that his body wouldn’t fall on me.

He pulled away from my lips. “As much as I’d love to continue that, our movie is going to start in a few minutes.” He leaned down and pecked my lips before pushing himself up and getting out of the car.

I copied him, realizing that he had, in fact, parked in the movie theater parking lot. He took my hand in his and led me into the theater.

“What are we seeing?” I asked.

“We’re The Millers. I’m feeling a cheap comedy,” he said, paying for out tickets and leading me over to the snack counter.

“Dimitri, we just ate,” I said in annoyance. He could eat so much food, and yet he was still impossibly skinny.

“I’m sensing hate!” he said cheerfully, kissing me. “Besides, you know I can’t make it through a movie without my Mike and Ikes.”

“For being so skinny, you’re really fat,” I said.

“If that made sense, I might actually be offended,” he said.

                “Dimitri!”

We both turned and my face paled a little as an attractive boy came over to us. He looked about our age, and he beamed a smile at Dimitri.

“I haven’t seen you since Kim’s last party,” he said, blushing a little. “How are you?”

“I’m quite fabulous. How are you, Alexaiver?” he asked.

“I’m good. Hey, do you want to hang out sometime? I miss you,” he said, his blush getting deeper and his eyes announcing that he and Dimitri were not just friends.

“Ah, sadly, I cannot. My heart has been captured by this lovely boy here,” Dimitri said, gesturing at me. “I belong entirely to my little Theodore.”

The boy seemed to notice me for the first time, and I saw the slight disappointment and jealousy in his eyes. I forced myself to keep a neutral expression despite the jealousy I felt.

“Oh, hi there! I’m Xavier,” he said.

“I’m Theo,” I said, my grip on Dimitri’s hand tightening a little. He was mine.

“I believe this conversation is going nowhere. Please excuse us Alexaiver,” Dimitri said.

“Dimitri…you can call me anytime,” Xavier said, looking at him longingly. “I really do miss you.”

“A heart wrenching story, but I’m afraid we’re running late to our movie. Toodles,” he said, wiggling his fingers at Xavier and pulling me away and into a theater.

We sat down together and I moodily glared at the theater screen. Dimitri put his arm around me, pulling me close and kissing my cheek.

“I sense a little green monster,” he said, chuckling.

“You’ve slept with that guy before,” I said flatly.

“We’ve been intimate with each other a few times. We had intercourse once when we were 15, and a few times last year,” Dimitri said with a shrug. That was one thing about Dimitri. He was open about everything.

                “He’s attractive,” I said.

“He is,” Dimitri agreed with a nod. “But he’s not you. Therefore, I have no interesting in him.”

“Yea,” I grumbled. How could he not? Dimitri was very well known as a promiscuous guy. But he and I had been dating for months, and never done anything sexual. Surely he must miss that in his life.

“Doubt thou the stars are fire, doubt that the sun doth move, doubt truth to be a liar, but never doubt I love,” he whispered, his breath making on my ear causing me to shiver. His lips met mine a moment later, gentle and reassuring.

“I love you, my little Theodore. Only you,” he assured me as he pulled away from my lips.

“Shut up and watch the movie,” I said, glad he couldn’t see my brilliantly red face in the dark theater. I was so stupid to get overly jealous. Dimitri was incredibly faithful when he was in a relationship. I had nothing to worry about.

He kept his arm around me as I rested my head on his shoulder. We watched the movie, laughing as it went on.

I had grown to love our simple dates, too. Just us spending time together, and being close. Cuddling in a movie theater, or holding hands over dinner. It was nice.

When the movie was over, we went back out to Dimitri’s car. He drove back to my house and parked in my driveway.

I moved to get out of the car, but he reached over and grabbed my arm. I looked at him curiously as he leaned over and dug around the backseat.

“Here,” he said, reappearing and handing me something wrapped in newspaper.

I pulled the newspaper off of it and my eyes widened a little. I stared down at the beautiful drawing Dimitri had been working on.

“There, the final step was giving it to you. Now it’s complete!” he said, clapping joyfully. “How truly fabulous!”

“Thank you,” I said quietly, looking down at the drawing he had done of the two of us. It was so perfect and carefully done.

I leaned over and kissed him, my lips working furiously with his. He knotted his hands in my shirt, pulling me closer to himself.

We pulled away from each other. “I love you Dimitri,” I said honestly, kissing him again.

“I hope you enjoyed our date, darling,” he said, smirking.

“I always do,” I said, getting out of the car and holding the drawing carefully.

He waved to me and pulled out of my driveway. I watched until his car had disappeared before letting myself break out into a huge smile. Nothing made me happier than a simple date with Dimitri.
