A.N.- Okay so in chapter 4 of Swan Song, Carol talks about how Shane and Mitch used to be mama's boys and mentions 2 situations where they cried when they weren't with her. So, I wrote those :D Enjoy baby Marion brothers :3 (and Jace before his trust issues!)

“Come on Mitch,” Carol Marion said, holding her hand out to the little boy.

Four year old Mitch hurried over to her, taking her hand in his. She led him into the store and over to the clothes.

“Mommy, I need new shoes! Not clothes!” Mitch said, bending down and poking the hole in his sneakers.

“I know, Mitch. We’re going to the shoe store right after this. I promise,” Carol said. “But you also need new shirts. You’re getting too big for yours.”

“Oh,” Mitch said, looking at the clothes with little interest.

Carol pulled her hand out of Mitch’s and began to look through the shirts for a bigger size. She glanced at Mitch as he started to wander away.

“Mitchell! Don’t wander off,” she said sternly.

“I won’t!” he promised, moving closer to her.

Mitch looked around the store. He spotted a bright shirt on the other side and glanced at his mom. She was focused on the clothing in front of her. Maybe she wouldn’t notice if he just walked away for a minute…

He turned and hurried away to the bright shirt. He picked it up and inspected it carefully. But he had a small attention span, and quickly tossed the shirt aside. He turned and began to walk back to his mom before freezing.

He looked around and realized that he had walked down the wrong section. He backtracked and scanned the other section for his mom, but didn’t see her anywhere.

“Mommy?” he said in alarm, running forward to where he had last seen her. But she wasn’t there anymore.

He looked around wildly, nervously twirling a strand of hair around his finger as his eyes watered. His mom was nowhere in sight.

“Mommy?” he said again, his voice choked.

He spun around, searching carefully. But his mom wasn’t there. He didn’t know where she was. He had lost his mom.

Mitch sat down on the ground and buried his face in his hands as he began to sob. He was lost, and his mom was gone.

“Hey, are you okay?” a woman asked a minute later, kneeling down next to Mitch. “Dear, where are your parents?”

But Mitch ignored her and continued to sob into his hands. He was sobbing hard, tears leaking through his fingers.

                “Mitch!”

He jerked his head up. “Mommy!” he cried.

Carol hurried over and lifted him into her arms. He wrapped his arms around her neck and buried is face against her shoulder.

“I am so sorry,” Carol said to the woman. “He wandered off and I was looking for him.” She kissed Mitch’s cheek and stroked his hair. “Sh, it’s okay Mitch. I’m right here. Mommy’s right here. You’re okay.”

He pulled his face away and sniffed, wiping at his eyes. “You left me!” he cried accusingly.

“You wandered away when I told you not to, you idiot!” Carol said.

“I’m sorry mommy,” Mitch whimpered, burying his face against her neck and squeezing his eyes shut as he tried to stop crying.

Carol sighed and kissed his cheek again. “It’s okay. I’m not mad. I’m sorry. I’m not mad. Just please don’t wander off again.”

“I promise,” he said and wiped at his eyes again. “Don’t leave me again, mommy.”

“I promise I won’t leave you, Mitch. Never,” Carol said and gave him a comforting smile. “Let’s finish shopping, huh? Get out of here and get home. I think you need a nap, buddy.”

“I love you,” Mitch said, putting his arms back around her neck, not wanting her to put him down.

“I love you too Mitch,” Carol said, kissing him. “From now on, no more wandering off!”

                                                                                          ***

Five year old Shane Marion rolled over and shook his best friend. Jace Butler cracked his eyes open and sat up sleepily.

“What, Shane?” he asked, rubbing at his eyes.

“Jace, I wanna go home,” Shane whimpered, his eyes watering.

“Why?” Jace asked with a frown.

A tear leaked down Shane’s face. “I want my mommy!”

“Shane, it’s okay,” Jace said, patting his back. “You’ll see her tomorrow!”

“No, I want her now!” Shane cried, upset.

Jace’s bedroom door creaked open and his mom, Erica, stepped in. “Shane, what’s wrong?” she asked, frowning and going over to the bed. She sat on the edge of it and put a comforting arm around Shane.

“I miss my mom!” Shane said, rubbing at his eyes.

“Are the boys still up?” Jace’s dad, Cameron, asked, coming into the room.

“Shane wants his mom,” Erica said, rubbing the little boy’s back comfortingly.

“Shane don’t cry. You’ll see your mom in the morning,” Cameron said.

“I want her now!” Shane wailed, crying harder.

Jace shook his head and hugged Shane. “Don’t cry Shane!”

“I wanna go home!” Shane cried.

“Sh, it’s okay. I’ll call your mommy,” Erica said, giving him a sympathetic look and a one-armed hug.

Shane sniffed and watched as Erica stood up and grabbed the phone. She sat down next to him and dialed Carol’s number.

“Hello?” Carol answered after a few rings.

“Carol? Hi, it’s Erica. I’m sorry to bother you. But Shane’s right next to me, and he’s crying because he wants to come home,” Erica said.

“That idiot,” Carol said with a sigh. “You know what, why don’t he and Jace both sleep here for the night? They were looking forward to this sleepover. It’d be a shame if they didn’t get to have it just because Shane’s homesick.”

“If you’re alright with that, I think it’s great idea,” Erica said, hoping that Jace wouldn’t get homesick as well.

“Great, do you want me to pick them up?” Carol offered.

“No, we’ll drop them off. They’ll be there in a little. Thank you,” Erica said and hung up. She turned to Shane and have him a smile. “Shane, how about you and Jace have a sleepover at your house?”

                “Okay,” Shane whimpered.

“Is Jace going to cry too? I’m not picking him up once I go to sleep,” Cameron said with a sigh. “I’ll drop them off. But Jace, if you go to Shane’s house, you’re there for the night.”

“I’ll stay daddy!” Jace said eagerly.

“Then come on. Let’s go,” Cameron said, gesturing at them to hurry up.

They got out of Jace’s bed and Erica helped them pack. She hugged Jace and kissed his cheek, smiling at him.

“Be a good boy Jace. I love you,” she said.

“I love you too mommy,” he said, waving to her and taking Shane’s hand. He pulled Shane over to his dad and they followed him outside to the car. They climbed into the backseat and Cameron drove them back to Shane’s house. Carol was waiting on the porch, and she waved to Cameron.

“Alright, I’ll pick you up tomorrow Jace,” Cameron said.

“Bye daddy! I love you!” Jace said, pushing the door open.

“Yea, see you tomorrow,” Cameron said, waiting until the boys were out of the car before leaving to head back home.

Shane sprinted up to the porch, throwing himself into his mom’s arms. He whimpered and started crying again.

“Hey, come on. You’re a big boy Shane,” Carol said, kneeling down and hugging him back tightly. “You don’t need me all the time!”

“Mommy I missed you,” he said.

“I missed you too, Shane,” she said, giving him an affectionate smile and kissing him. She stood up with him in her arms and held her hand out to Jace. He took it in his own and she led him inside.

“Mommy, I don’t like sleepovers,” Shane said, resting his head on her shoulder.

“Sure you do. You just have to get used to not being home for a night,” Carol said. “But you boys have to be quiet. Mitch fell asleep in the living room.”

They looked over and saw that the three year old was curled up and fast asleep in his father’s lap. Jasper smiled at Shane.

“Couldn’t do it, kid?” he asked, keeping his voice low so that he wouldn’t wake up Mitch.

Shane shook his head, wrapping his arms around his mother’s neck. She carried him to his bedroom and set him on his bed, kissing his forehead.

“Now, it’s late. You and Jace go to sleep. I love you,” she said, brushing Shane’s hair out of his face.

“I love you too mommy,” Shane said as Jace crawled into bed next to him.

“Someday you’ll be able to be away from me,” Carol said as she watched them settle in.

Shane shook his head violently. “No, mommy! I don’t like being away from you!”

“I’ll hold you to that when you’re older. Goodnight boys,” she said, laughing and turning the lights off.
