SIX. never have i ever... got drunk and told my best friend everything
FABIOLA HAD come out to Devi. Devi had pretty much missed big milestones in her friends lives. They basically replaced her with Jonah. Devi had done pretty much anything to get her friendship back to where it was.
And the girls hung out with Eleanor birth mother, Joyce, for the time being. And Kalani almost told them about her and Ben, but skipped over that puddle and maybe that was a good thing because Joyce ended up spilling every in front of the girls and their moms.
And it turns out that Devi lied about everything between her and Paxton.
Also adding, Fabiola came out to her mom. She was completely worried, but she had nothing to worry about because her mother was completely fine.
But everything was fine, for now that is. Devi was still their friend and she'd promise that she'd be a better friend from here on out.
Truthfully, everything being fine was a stretch. Eleanor's mom had actually jumped the gun once more for Broadway once more and she (Eleanor) quit the play.
Nothing shocked the girls more when they found out that Devi had been at Paxton's house instead of being with them.
Though Kalani had the time to be with Eleanor, she still had the time to get Ben's sixteen birthday gift.
She knocked on the Gross door and waited for someone to answer.
The door finally opened and Kalani held a wide tooth smile as she held the gift bag in the air.
"Happy birthday!" She smiled.
Ben smiled. At least someone seemed to care about his birthday. He hugged Kalani, a little tighter than normal which didn't go past her.
He allowed her inside and the first thing her eyes had landed on was the birthday cake that had been shaped into a sculpture of some sort.
She furrowed her brows and placed the bag on the table.
"Looks delicious." She said.
"Probably taste pretty good too."
Kalani grabbed a piece of bacon from his plate and joined him at the table.
"How's sixteen so far?" Kalani asked, "I still have two months before knowing anything and I'll be using use as a guide."
"Might want to get a new guide. Sixteen has been pretty shitty."
"Why?"
Ben explained how his parents weren't home and that they were going on some sort of business trip.
"You know what? Screw that, okay?" She said standing, "It's your birthday. Think about the one thing you want right now."
Kalani was up for long. Ben grabbed her by her waist and sat her down on his lap.
"I just want to spend my birthday with you. If that's okay?"
Kalani smiled softly and titled his head back slightly, squeezing his cheeks, "Sure, but only because it's your birthday."
She kissed him softly, but then it hit Ben. He'd totally forgotten to ask her about how things went down between her and Devi after she told her about the two of them.
"How did things go between you and Devi?"
Kalani sighed, "I was going to tell her. I promise I was, but then shit with Eleanor happened and Devi was kind of a dick and didn't show up, so I'm not really speaking to her right now."
Ben smiled, "A dream come true honestly. Less time with Devi and more time with me."
"Keep it in your pants, Gross. Just because it's your birthday doesn't mean anything."
Kalani stood from his lap and grabbed his hand, "School my dear boy. Then you and me, all night."
To say that excited Ben was an understatement, but he somewhat blew that. He'd told Devi that he was having a party and pretty much invited the entire student body.
So instead of letting Kalani know now, he'd just sit on an idea of how to tell her.
Meanwhile, class has ended and Devi finally got her friends to acknowledge her.
"I know you're mad at me, but I did come to the drama room eventually."
"You ditched us for Paxton." Kalani said, "Eleanor really needed you."
"I know, and I am really sorry, but Paxton had an emergency too."
"Was it worse than having your mom abandoned you?" Fabiola asked.
"I'll make it up to you guys. Did you hear about Ben's party? We can go together. We can get everyone drunk with Fabiola's bomb beer pong skills."
Nothing could really fix what Devi had done. Ultimately they told Devi that they needed a friendship break from her.
Kalani waved her friends goodbye and found Ben standing next to his locker.
"So, no more Ben and Lani time I assume?" She asked, crossing her arms, "I heard that this guy, Ben Gross, you might know him, is having this huge party tonight."
"It was a very last minute plan."
"Are you sure that you want to have this party?"
"Yeah, it's gonna be the party of the year!"
And that held some truth.
Kalani had gotten drunk. Truly, everyone there was drunk. She'd arrived early and by the time Devi came she was gone.
She stumbled into the screening room where she saw Devi and Ben sitting, talking about whatever.
"Devi!" Kalani smiled.
Mind you, Ben was also drunk. Not like Kalani though.
Kalani held her smile and sat in Ben's lap. Devi had never seen the girl drunk, but she could tell that her friend was completely wasted.
"I'm sooo glad you came. The birthday boy has been upstairs with me this entire time. Did you know that this drink is supposed to make you have dementia? Like, imagine- anyways, did he tell you?"
"Did who tell me what?"
Kalani laughed, "About Ben and I! That we're dating! For like months!"
Devi let her mouth fall agape and looked over at Ben. He was just as shocked as she was with how easily she said it.
"I think you've had too much to drink." Devi awkwardly chuckled, "Let me go get you some water."
Devi quickly stood and left the screening room. Kalani followed behind and Ben soon after.
Ben did say she was drunk and not to drink the punch because Trent put his ball into the punch and from the corner of her eye she saw Fabiola getting ready to drink said punch.
She pushed the drink out of her hands causing the punch bowl to spill all over her. Fabiola had popped off and Devi fell into the pool.
It had been one event after the other and soon the party had been shut down.
Kalani sat on Ben's bedroom floor as he grabbed something out of his closet for her to wear.
"Ben?" Kalani called.
He turned his head slightly, still rummaging through his closet.
"Did you have a great birthday?"
Ben held a small smile and grabbed a shirt and a pair of shorts and turned, helping Kalani to her feet.
"I've had better days, but my birthday was pretty... successful. I guess."
Kalani drunkenly smiled, "That's good. I'm glad you had a good time, baby. Now let's eat some cake. I heard it was shaped like a man."
Ben chuckled and sat Kalani down on the bed, pulling her hair into a messy ponytail, and gave her the clothes to wear.
"I think we should get some sleep." Ben said, "The cake can wait."
Ben turned, letting Kalani get dressed and once she was he joined her on his bed.
Kalani turned, facing him, "Happy birthday."
Ben held a small smile and watched as Kalani drifted off to sleep. He brushed some of her baby hairs out of her face.
Though he had a pretty shitty birthday and a party to go with it. He could happily say that he could call his Kalani his girlfriend without getting shocking stares from the UN.
