Five
*Cecil Solar
"I'm home!" I announce as I lock the front door behind me. School was the usual first day things. Pretty much just introducing ourselves.
I tried to keep Cecilia always in my view but even when I skip my class to look for her in her lunch period, I can never find her. She's not in all my classes but I know people who have her in classes that I don't and they keep me in the loop.
I know I'm too overprotective but she's my little sister and even if she was my big sister I'd protect her the same. I could never help her as kids but now no one will touch her before going through me.
"In the kitchen!" called out a voice from the farthest room to the left.
Bark Bark Bark
Royal, Cecilia's English bulldog puppy, runs past me and towards the front door.
He starts scratching the door and whining.
"Sorry, Bud, Cecilia is going to be late today." I pat his head.
He runs up the stairs, barking, probably to Cecilia's room. Her room is always ajar a little for him to go in.
I walk to the kitchen.
"What's going on?" I ask as I see Cyrus and Casper gathered around a laptop on the kitchen island.
"We are choosing one of Cecilia's birthday presents. Want to help?" Cyrus smirks, next to Cyrus.
Cyrus has always been the goof ball in the family while Casper, since he's the oldest, has always been the serious one but fun one.
I go to Casper's other side and peek at the screen.
"BoyFriend.com? Are you serious?" I question my responsible older brothers.
Casper sighs. "Believe it or not, Cecil, but we think this is what's best for Cecilia."
"I came up with the idea." Cyrus brags.
"Of course you did but why would you go along with it, Casper?" My older brother looks slightly guilty.
"Cecil, how many friends does Cecilia have?" He asks.
I stay quiet.
"Exactly. Even if she doesn't date the guy, she'll at least become friends with him." Cyrus explicates.
"But still I don't think Cecilia will approve."
"She probably won't which is why she won't know he's being rented. She might want to be his friend. If she doesn't, he'll have to try harder to befriend her. Besides it's a free trial for two months and we're not telling her that he's rented for a good reason. He has to pretend that he's a normal guy who likes her." Cyrus communicates.
"We already chose the perfect guy for her." Casper points to the screen. "He's the Golden Boy type. Smart. Funny. A total goody two shoes."
"What if something goes wrong?" I question.
"Like what?" Casper and Cyrus question, simultaneously.
"What if she actually falls for him? What if after the trial ends, she'll still want to be with him? Will you keep 'renting' for her? That's like prostitution. What if she gets hurt? What if she thinks it's all a prank?" I point out all the negatives and down falls.
"First of all, there's a low chance of her falling in love; we know our sister, Cecil. When the trial ends, he'll make an excuse and then he'll disappear. It's not prostitution because there will be no sex between them. She won't get hurt but if she actually falls for him then we'll handle it when it happens." Cyrus says like it's that easy.
I sigh. "I hope you guys don't regret this. When will he be here?"
"On Cecilia's birthday around 5 p.m."
I shake my head at them. "I'm going up to my room to play with Phoenix. When Cecilia gets here tell her I want a rematch on Super Smash Bros."
I jog up to my room. As soon as I walk in, Phoenix greets me. "Hiya, Friend."
Phoenix is my Blue and Gold Macaw. I got him when Cecilia got Royal on our 16th birthday. I've taught him so many new words and tricks. He has his cage but I let him roam around my room. I have longs sticking out of my walls for him to sit on and rub his beak and talons.
"What did you do today, Phoenix?"
"Watched t.v. The Walking Dead Marathon was on." He nods, coming to sit on my shoulder.
"Did you watch the news?"
"Yes. A 10 year old boy strangled his grandmother in Tennessee." Phoenix repeats the news.
"Oh, yeah I heard about that."
I spend the next two hours listening to music and playing GTA5 on my Xbox One S while waiting for Cecilia.
*Casper Solar
"Hey, Cy, what if Cecil is right? Is this really the smart thing to do?" I ask my younger brother.
"Smart idea, maybe not but it's an thought out idea. Casper, we are trying to help our little sister to be more social. If this backfires, we'll deal with it then. Maybe things will go right and he'll help her make friends." Cyrus explains as he makes dinner.
I nod in understanding. "Are you eating with us tonight?"
"I wish I could, but Alec wants to take me out for our anniversary. Ain't he sweet. I'm just making dinner since I know that you always do it."
How I appreciate all my siblings and their caring hearts.
"That's nice, thank you, Cy. I actually like making it, though, since Cecy always helps me. She reminds me so much of mom. I still can't believe they left us." I frown.
"As long as Cecilia doesn't know the truth then she won't get hurt."
"I'm home!"
I smile and watch as Cecilia walks in. I love my little sister so much, I can't believe what almost happened to her. If I hadn't had came home when I had that day I don't know what would have happened to her.
If anything were to happen to our little sister, we would never forgive ourselves. She may act tough but I know inside she is broken. I've seen her art and if her drawings and paints are not of us or Royal then they are so dark and sad. I know she feels lonely inside. She smiles it away, though.
I really hope, with all my soul, that this plan doesn't backfire.
