Elevators Can Really Suck

Agh. I've been sick for the past three days. Not really fun. But, I got a watch today, so that's a bonus.

This chapter is dedicated to Wu.

They were stuck. Trapped, even, would be the more suitable word for this situation. How, they had no clue.

Dick's guess would be that some people weren't doing their jobs right, which led them here.

Here, ensnared in this small room. And it seems like they wouldn't be leaving anytime soon.

Elevators. Bah.

They had tried many things to escape. They were in their civilian identities, so they had no weapons. Dumb, they agreed, on their part.

But, Dick and Roy's adoptive fathers had a meeting together, and the three boys were on their ways up to see them. Wally was with them, too, at the time. And on their way up, bam. Stuck.

Back to the point, they had many strategies on leaving. They tried opening the doors, they were stuck between floors. They checked the metal grate overhead of them. Something- they didn't know what-had fallen, and was keeping them in. And whatever it was, it was heavy.

They tried jumping up and down, to get the moving room to lower a bit, just enough so they could get to a floor. That didn't work. And then they resorted yelling for help, though it 'dented their pride' and, seeing little options left, didn't have much of a choice.

But to no avail. They were in a city, Roy had said, and people living in a city learns to tune out yelling and screaming.

Well, this sucks.

So, they did the next best thing; call the Justice League for help. Indeed they had responded, and are coming. They tried calling for Bruce and Oliver, but they didn't answer. Meetings, remember?

All they had to do was wait. Wait in the small elevator for who knows how long. Wait for their worried parental figures to get them out. Oh what fun. And it's already been almost an hour since they've been there. Where are they?

"So," Wally began, looking to where his two best friends were sitting,"how do you think all this happened?" he gestured all around them.

"Like I said," Richard replied,"People not doing their jobs right. Not checking to make sure everything's a-okay before letting people use things."

"No, not that," Wally shook his head,"I mean how. Like what happened for the elevator to stop?"

"Oh," Dick said. Well, there could be many possible scenarios for that.

Now, Wally wasn't half bad with science. One could say that he was pretty good with this kind of stuff in school. A science whiz, much like Dick. But, you would have to specific on what topic in the subject.

"Well," Dick started, trailing off,"the power could've been cut the wrong way."

Okay..

"Or just a simple malfunction..."

Yeah, that's possible.

"Or the pulley system above is is getting old, rusted, or something's jammed inside, causing us to stop." Dick finished.

Sounds pretty logical.

"Anything could've happened," Roy agreed. "But, let's not worry about it. The JL are coming, and that's all that matters."

the two younger boys nodded their heads.

"Yeah."

They sat in silence for a few moments. Then Richard got up and outstretched his arms him the air.

"Well, what are we to do, since we're here in this fancy place?" Richard asked, a smile on his face.

Well, it wasn't a lie. The elevator was pretty decent.

The two older heroes put on some sort of smile of their own. Er- Roy had a small grin. Wally didn't think his face allowed anything other than scowling.

Dick was trying to lighten the mood.

"I don't know, what are we to do, Roy?" Wally nudged the older man in the side.

And he got 'nudged' right back. Harder. "Figure something out, genius."

"Well I don't know..." Wally trailed off, thinking."Let's play truth or dare?"

"There's not enough things to do in here for daring," Roy shrugged.

"Then let's just play truth," Dick said.

"Better than nothing."

They got ready to play by sitting in a spaced out triangle-looking circle.

"Okay...KF...have you ever ripped your pants in public?" Dick asked.

Wally's face turned red. "Uh...yeah. When I was ten."

"Wait, really?" Dick looked shocked. So did Roy.

"How?" the oldest asked.

"Not telling! Roy, truth or truth?" Wally changed the subject.

"Fine." Dick sighed.

"Uh...let's go with...truth," Roy nodded.

"Okay, um...have you ever had a voice crack in the middle of talking?"

Roy nodded, a small smile forming. "Yeah, in grade seven. The teacher was doing attendance, and when she called my name, my voice cracked while I was in the middle of saying it."

"Haha, nice!"

"Dick, have you ever-"

"Shh!"

The room fell silent.

"What?" KF whispered.

"Did you hear that?" Dick asked.

"Hear what?" Roy looked around.

There was a muffled noise from above them, and it echoed throughout the shaft.

"That," Richard answered.

It happen again.

"What do you think that is?" Wally questioned.

"Is something falling apart?"

"Maybe, maybe. Let's listen," Roy hushed them.

And there it was again. Then, a voice. It sounded right above them.

"Boys? Can you hear me?"

Barry, the three recognized.

"Uncle Barry! We're down here!" Wally yelled.

Concern and relief flooded Flash's voice "Wally! Are you three alright?"

"Yeah!" Wally called back.

"We're gonna get you out, kay?" they heard.

"We know!"

Wally turned to his friends, a large smile placed on his face.

They heard something shuffling right above them. Then, the metal grate in the roof was lifted up. The three young heroes looked up to see an unfamiliar face.

"You boys alright?" he asked. He looked like a mechanic of some sort, judging by the helmet on his head.

"Yeah," Dick nodded.

"Well, let's get you out of here."

Roy and Wally hoisted Dick up so that he could grab he man's hand. Once he was pulled out, Wally's turn. Then when it came to Roy, he was tall enough to just grab his hand.

When Dick was out, he saw two other mechanics holding up whatever had fallen onto the elevator. The floor that they were stuck between had its door wide open. He could see bystanders. An officer extended his hand to hoist the small boy up.

Once he was, a hand rested on his shoulder. He turned to see it was Bruce.

"Are you alright?" there was concern laced in the question.

Dick nodded. "Yeah, I'm fine."

"Good."

And with that, Richard was engulfed in the mans arms. They stayed like like for a moment, then let go.

Oliver had his hand on Roy's shoulder, and Barry had his arm around Wally.

"We're glad that none of you are hurt," Barry said.

"Very glad," Oliver agreed.

Bruce nodded.

They were interrupted by a female officer. "Excuse me?" she asked kindly. "We are sorry for what happened, and are glad you're alright. May we asked some questions?"

The boys nodded slowly.

"You may." Bruce said.

"Thanks. This way, please," she started to lead them to a group of people. Mixtures of officer and men and women in suits.

An hour later, they were free to go and given many apologies by the owner of the building and the mechanics who were working on the elevator. Turns out, they cut the power improperly and didn't check if there was people inside the elevator. They were forgiven. It was an accident, anyways.

Dick was sitting in the backseat of the limo. Well, today was certainly different. If he was asked 'what did you do today', he probably would've replied with;

"Oh, you know; hanging out in elevators playing truth or truth like every other kid."

Dick sighed. He was so taking the stairs from now on.

You made it though another chapter, kids. Proud of ya. Anyways review, and have a nice day-night.

I tried to make the story a little humorous and light. From what I've read on the real accident, it sounded really painful.

R.I.P, Wu.

TBC.

BC, out. Peace.
