01.

"Get back here Zosia" A deep voice shouted from somewhere behind me. I let out a giggle as I increased my speed, pain shooting up my legs as they pumped as fast as they could against the forest floor. The crunching of leaves and my heaving breathing filled my ears as I tried to blink through the sweat pouring down my forehead.

I turned back to check the distance between us. He was so close. He reached out and was about to grab me but I was quicker and quickly dodged his hand. He lost his balance and fell causing both of us to roll down the slightly sloppy floor.

My giggles filled the calm, quiet atmosphere as the effect of the adrenaline slowly faded.
When my giggling finally came to an end I opened my eyes, which I hadn't realised I had closed and was met with blue disapproving ones.

Archer shook his head at me causing his sweat soaked Brown hair to sway as his blue eyes slightly glared at me. A few sweat drops fell on my face but I didn't mind. He was on top of me and balanced his weight on his bulky arms which held me captive.

He was so close. Our breaths mingled together my garlic breath, since I had garlic bread for breakfast, mixed with his minty ones. Our eyes remained locked for a moment before the disapproving look in his eyes slightly changed to that of amusement.

"Never Ever Play a prank like that on me Zosia. Next time I won't let you go so easily." He said before pushing himself off me.

"Sure, next time I'll dye your favourite White shirt Brown instead of Green after it took you two days to get it spotless." I teased. But Archer wasn't paying attention to me. He stood completely frozen as he took in our surrounding. I gave him a wierd look before finally taking a look at our surrounding.

The grass was longer here and there was no form of civilization nearby. Almost like the part of town that no one ever goes to. A little bit further was a wall. Well I thought it was a wall. It wasn't made of bricks or stones that, I could tell from the distance. It looked like it was made from a transparent material, although what was at the other side was blurred beyond recognition. There was a blinding White light at the bottom of the wall.It was tall and so high up that I tried tracing its length with my eyes but got blinded by the blazing Sun instead.

"Is that...?" I asked slightly dazed.

"The boundary." Archer replied with a dazed look. His eyes were focused ahead but he looked like his mind wasn't there. More like he was remembering a memory.

Right from when we were young we had been told stories about the boundary and how we should never cross it. Throughout my life time I had only heard stories about it but had never actually seen it before. Up until now I had started to think it was only a myth.

"Let's go check it out." I moved forward ready to explore the forbidden part of town.

"What? Are you crazy? We can't go there." Archer reached out and grabbed my hand before I could even move and dragged me to his side keeping a firm hold on my hand.

"Why?"

"Its very dangerous. What if we don't find our way back or worse what if we meet a crawler?"

"Relax. I'm pretty sure it's not as deadly as they make it seem. Besides where is your sense of adventure?"

"There is a difference between sense of adventure and stupidity. This, Zosia is stupidity in its purest form." Archer retorted.

"Its just a small peek." I whined giving him my best puppy Dog eyes which worked on him every single time.

"No." He stated firmly before dragging me by my arm which was still tucked in his.

Well, I guess it wasn't my best puppy Dog eyes. I sighed at my best friend as he led us back home.

***

Goosebumps rose on my skin as a cold wind brushed past me causing a few strands of hair to fall out from the ponytail. I tucked the stray strands behind my ear.

Black.

That was all I could see.

"Stupid Zosia. One rule was all you were asked to follow." I muttered to myself.

"Never Cross the light boundary."

After Archer and I came across the light boundary, it had been on my mind all day long. I just couldn't stop wondering what could be behind that wall.

I tried coming back later in the day but I found it difficult to retrace my steps which led to Archer finding me and dragging me back home. He kept an eye on me all day long.

When nighttime came, the whole town was asleep except for a curious teen. I tossed and turned but I just couldn't find a comfortable spot to fall asleep. Maybe it was because my mind kept racing with different assumptions of what could be behind that wall.

So I snuck out through my room window and followed the path i remembered running through earlier today. This time around there was no Archer to catch me.

The boundary was brighter at night. Brighter than the moon that lit up my path.
Crossing it had been so much easier than expected. I imagined you'll need a spell only the best spell crafters could do, turns out all I had to do was walk through it.

So little security for so much danger.

I could feel my pupils dilate as I tried to make out any shape in the darkness. I placed my hands in front of me trying to feel any form. But all I came in contact with was cold, bitter air.  I should really turn back and cross the light boundary but curiosity got the best of me. That and I had wandered a bit too deep to know my way back.

There has to be more to this place than pure darkness right?

I mean where are the scary creatures my grandma warned me about?

Either fate had a really twisted sense of humour or it was pure coincidence because immediately that thought crossed my mind, I heard a deadly growl behind me.

I gulped audibly before turning around slowly to see whose attention I caught or rather what.

At first I couldn't see anything. Then slowly I began seeing a set of violet glowing orbs floating. A huge contrast to the surrounding darkness. On further inspection I realised they weren't floating but held up by something.

What? That I couldn't tell.

If only there was a bit of light.

Another growl came from whatever was now in front of me.

I closed my eyes for a while to calm down my nerves that were going haywire. When I opened them again I was beyond shocked. The darkness had cleared and I now stood in a small clearing surrounded by tall tree. The smell of wet soil filled the still and quiet air and the moonlight lit up the whole area. But that wasn't what caught my attention. What caught my attention was my greatest fear that stood before me with glowing Violet orbs.

A huge freaking Dog.

It was big with brown fur and sharp claws. Its ears were straightened as if searching for any sound and his snout was even bigger, nostrils widened to full capacity. Probably enjoying the smell of fear reeking from me and sound of my heart beating a thousand times per minute.

Why did it have to be a dog? Why not a cute fluffy cat or even a rat?

I was beyond scared of puppies talk less about the human sized one in front of me.

I could feel the adrenaline pumping into my system. Every nerve in my body was shaking with fear. Heck, you could smell it off me from a mile away. I gulped audibly and put my hands in front of me as an attempt to pacify the beast glaring at me.
"Nice doggy" My voice was barely above a whisper.

Grandma never told me there were dogs here. I racked my brain for something similar to it. I stared at its glowing eyes for a while praying for something to make sense.

It growled at me one more time, baring Its huge canines at me.

If I was scared before then I was scared shitless now. I could have pooped my pants right now but I was too scared to make a single muscle move.

I watched with wide eyes as it lunged at me. My Brain screamed at me to turn around and run but my body was already paralysed with fear.

It hit me with a large force causing me to tumble to the ground with the beast right on top of me.

An ear-piercing scream filled the air as its sharp claws sunk into my soft skin causing a red coloured liquid to stain the forest floor.

I watched, eyes wide with fears as it lowered its head bringing its canines to the base of my neck.

It was at that moment that everything clicked.

You know the saying curiosity killed the cat you can as well change it to curiosity killed Zosia

Because right now I was about to be killed by one of the most vicious things to walk this earth.

An Inducer.
