The Dream
I sped through the forest, my long sundress streaming behind me. Branches slapped at my face and thorns tugged on my dress and bare legs. The hot summer sun scorched the entire forest, causing a swarm of mosquitos to hover nearby. My lungs burned, my legs ached, and my feet stung from running.
My mind was a little groggy, because I couldn't remember when I started running, or even why for the matter. But from the pain and intense sweat, I must've been running for a long time.
The only thing allowing me to run was a voice whispering to me, urging me to keep moving forward. It felt as if all movement was controlled, and I was a prisoner to my own body. If it was up to me, I would've collapsed onto the forest floor from exhaustion.
Just as sudden as I was running, I came to a halt. I looked around to see I was stopped in the edge of a fresh clearing (made obvious from the freshly cut stumps and unsettled dirt). I looked forward to see what was in the clearing....a man.
But this man was lying on the ground, his body at an awkward angle. His face was deathly pale, and his crystal blue eyes stared blankly at the bright summer sky. His shaggy black hair stuck to his forehead from dried blood that probably came from a cut right above his eye. He wore a light blue hoodie (which was odd for summertime) and khaki shorts, which were both stained with blood.
I looked to see he had a gaping wound in his stomach still glistening with blood. The blood had flowed from his gut onto the dirt, staining the ground red. He must've been dead for a short time, because the blood was somewhat fresh. But from the looks of the cut, he probably died a slow and painful death as the blood drained from his body.
I instantly felt a wave of nausea wash over me, and dark spots speckled my vision. But the worst part was that I couldn't look away. I was forced to look at the dead body laid out in front of me.
I heard a rustling in the woods behind me, and my body whipped around to see the source of the sound. Standing in the shadows of the trees was a dark hooded figure with a knife. The knife caught a ray of sun, and I could see it was covered with dried blood that probably came from the dude behind me. Then he took a step forward.
I felt all the blood in my body drain to my feet, and my body go numb from shock. I was stuck in that spot and I was sure I was about to be the next body in the woods, never to be seen again.
Then just like that, I felt a weight lift off my body and I passed out right there on the ground.
