Can I talk to you?

(A/n: This is back in Olive's POV. That last chapter was to give you a look at what Elmer feels.)

"Can we's go see Harriet?" I asked as we walked.

"Definitely." Elmer nodded. "Should we's go get Percy?"

It's just an small detour. "Sure." We changed our direction to the Deli. When we got there, Percy was bussing tables. He looked up as soon as we walked in.

"Hey, Olive." He smiled. "And Elmer."

"Hey, Percy." I nodded. "We's goin' ta see Harriet."

Percy's blue eyes lit up and he rushed into the kitchen, probably to tell his father that he was leaving. He came back out wearing a dark gray bowlers hat.

"How do I look?" He asked.

"Lose the hat." I advised. Elmer let out a little laugh beside me. We were unlinked by now. Percy grinned and took off the hat, hanging it on a coat rack as we left. We then all went down to the hospital to see my sister. Jess told that Harriet was in the same room as she was in the last time we saw her. When we all stepped into the room, Harriet was reading. She looked up at us as soon as we went in.

"Hey." She mumbled.

"Hi." Percy squeaked.

"What's wrong?" I asked. Harriet closed her book.

"They's been wakin' me up at five!" She complained.

"So she ain't a mornin' person." Elmer whispered in my ear.

"Nah." I smiled.

"It's almost sunset." Percy pointed out.

"So I's could sleep soon." My sister leaned back.

"Is you on any meds right now?" Elmer asked, pulling up and chair for himself and me. We both sat down by her bed.

"I ain't sure." Harriet shrugged.

"Well, ya look betta than you did when we's found ya." I told her.

"Did I look bad?" She asked looking at me.

"You's looked betta." I grinned.

"Who saw me?" Harriet pressed.

"Me, Elmer, Jack, Pulitzer, Snyder and Kailem, and a few bulls." I informed her, putting my hat into my pocket.

"Pulitzer saw me?" She groaned. Elmer and I nodded. "Is Jack comin'?"

"No." I shook my head. "Why?"

"He's sayin' 'bout me gettin' a job with Pulitzer." Harriet grinned.

"I's will talk ta him 'bout it." Elmer promised.

"Okay." Harriet nodded. "Thanks."

"So, uh, Harriet," Percy stammered. "Have you thought about seeing anyone?"

Harriet looked at me. "I don't got time for anybody."

Percy's face fell. "Alright, I was just asking for a f–"

"Why d'ya ask?" My sister stared at him.

"My– my friend likes you." The brown haired boy was very pale.

"Which friend." Harriet doesn't believe him.

"Howard?" Percy tried.

"Which one is he?" She crossed her arms. Elmer and I were watching intently.

"He's got blond— no, black– hair, and brown eyes?" He uptalked.

"You's soundin' unsure." Harriet grinned.

"No!" Percy's getting nervous now. "Howard's my best friend!"

"I's thought Thomas was ya best friend." The curly blonde haired girl told him.

"Nah, Howard are I are closer." Percy shrugged.

"Really?" She leaned back. The brown haired boy nodded frantically. "Well, ya can tell Howard that he ain't my type. But I's could give his best friend a shot."

"Honestly?" Percy jumped up before sitting back down calmly. "I will be sure to tell him you said so."

"Good." Harriet turned towards me. "Have ya got a torch for anyone?"

"No." I said a little too quickly.

"How 'bout you, Elmer?" She looked at the black haired boy.

"Kinda." He shrugged. My heart skipped a beat.

Who? I thought.

"Yay!" Harriet clapped her hands. "Who?"

"You ain't gonna know her." Elmer told her.

"I might." Percy piped up. "Describe her."

"Brown hair, blue eyes." The boy said slowly.

"What's her name?" Percy asked.

"It starts with a B." Elmer leaned back.

"B... I don't think I know her." Percy decided.

"Told ya." The black haired boy grinned. Harriet hadn't said anything in a while.

"I's thinkin' I know her." She looked at him. "Elmer, can I's talk ta ya?"

"Sure." He said. Percy and I left.

~Elmer's POV~

"D'ya like my sister?" Harriet asked solemnly.

"Kinda." I said again.

"Kinda?" She echoed.

"I mean, yeah." I looked down.

"You do?" She asked. I nodded without looking at her. "That's great!"

"It is?" I looked back at her.

"Yeah!" She sounded excited.

"Why did ya sound so excited?" I was taken aback.

"Because Olive needs a boy." Harriet told me. "She don't know it though."

"Well d'ya think she's interested in me?" I asked hopefully.

"Hard ta tell." The blonde girl mumbled. "She's neva really liked anyone before."

"I mean, she does say some flirty stuff." I told her.

"Like?" Harriet smiled.

"She said dat she told Jack that I's stood out ta her." I remembered.

"Whaddya mean?" She asked.

"Jack and Crutchie asked her if she thought any of da boys was attractive." I explained. The girl looked at me sideways.

"I ain't seein' it." She muttered.

"Thanks. That helps a lot." I said sarcastically.

"Ay, ya might be her type." Harriet objected. I sighed wistfully. "Olay, I'd will tell ya what."

"What?" I leaned forward in my seat.

"I's is goin' ta help ya out." Harriet folded her hands. "But ya have ta do something."

"Define something." I said sceptically.

"You's gotta go for it." Olive's sister grinned.

"Whaddya mean?" My heart stopped.

"Give it a go, kiss her, and we's will see what happens next." Harriet told me.

"What?" I nearly shouted.

"Kiss her." The blonde girl instructed.

"I's can't do that!" I yelped.

"You gotta!" She claimed. "Then we's would know what we's workin' with."

"I's can't kiss her." My voice cracked.

"Just trust me." She told me.

"You sure this will help?" I looked up at her.

"Positive." Harriet promised.

"When?" I asked.

"As soon as possible." She advised. "Can we's get them back in here?"

"Yeah." I went out to get Percy and Olive so they could talk some more. We all sat down in our seats.

"Hey, Olive, can I's talk to ya?" I asked, masking my panic.

"Sure." Olive shrugged, standing up. We then walked outside the hospital.
