Messages (Chapter 6)
The first time I noticed something weird, I was sneaking into Mumbo's base to egg the place. I had gently shoved the door to his underground bunker open, eggs ready in hand, when he was there.
I jumped back, pulling the door closed to hide. My heart was pounding as I waited to hear him shout at me, chase me, something.
But he didn't.
I slowly pushed the door back open to see Mumbo standing in the corner, staring at this door. His eyes were somewhat glazed over, his breathing light and steady. It was like he was asleep, but staring right at me. I yeeted out of there before he could wake up to see me.
"It's called going AFK," Impulse explained to me when I asked. I had been buying a pass for iTrade when the topic came up.
"What?"
"It's like a sleep state. Keeps farms active, but you don't have to. He'll wake up after a preset timer goes off, meaning he'll be alert again soon enough."
"Oh... cool."
"So you want to buy some iLoot boxes?"
From that day on, I saw people AFK all over the place. Mostly Mumbo, who tended to trap himself in boxes to keep himself from dying to monsters that would attack.
One of these instances happened as I was once more going to egg Mumbo's bunker. He was stood in his corner, completely oblivious to the world around him.
"Every time I come by here," I spoke to him, laughing, "You're AFK."
I walked around him, humming a tune to myself. "Mumbo Jumbo you are AFK... I'm gonna take that moustache away... Mumbo Mumbo Jumbo AFK... I'm gonna take that moustache away."
I snapped back, grinning madly. "Oh, wait... I might have just gained my goal for now."
With one toss of an egg I dashed out of the bunker, plans already forming for a possible way to remove a moustache.

Being the evil one of the Server always felt... lonely. Sure, he loved causing chaos with pranks, but... was that really what constituted someone as 'evil'?
Wow, that red-sweatered gremlin was getting to him, wasn't he?
He had no real... memory before coming into Hermitcraft as Evil X. No name from before, no identity other than being Xisuma's other half... nothing was his if it wasn't evil or cruel.
He was blamed for everything, yet always brought back for a new Server. Was he just a scapegoat? Was that all he could ever be?
He sighed, looking at the table of potions and notes. He kept working, determined to maybe do one thing right.
He didn't notice the person watching from the shadows as he worked through the night.

I returned to my base, crates of concrete stored safely into my inventory, only to see a single chest in the center of my ground floor. Curious, I opened the chest to see a simple book within, along with lots of lapis.
Dear newest member of Hermitcraft
ConCorp has take notice of several shops throughout the district, selling items that are a necessity to any Hermit with big builds. We here at ConCorp admire your entrepreneurship, but will warn you now.
If you ever attempt to undercut the ConCorp, you will have more to worry about than simply restocking your chests.
This is your first warning.
~The Convex
The rest of the book was empty, no clues as to who the Convex were, or what exactly ConCorp was. Seeing no real concerns immediately, I tossed the book into one of my already overfilling mess of chests, returning to the process of building massive towers outside of my base.

"Why hello down there!"
I jumped back from the sudden voice overhead, looking to the skies to see someone descending slowly. He wore a lab coat, skin a weird mix of green mob and metal. I kept my eyes on him as he landed only a few feet in front of me.
"I had heard about our newest member to the Server," He bowed a small bit, robotic eye glinting in the sunlight. "I am Doc. Pleasure to meet you."
"Uh..." I awkwardly held a hand out, unnerved by this man in general. His accent, his attire, everything screamed 'mad scientist' in my book. "Grian. It's nice to meet you as well, I guess..."
Doc took a hold of my hand, but instead of shaking it like anyone else, he chose to yank me forward so he could study my hand. I tried to pull back, but his grip was strong.
"You're young, though not the youngest here. Certainly not new in this world in general."
"Hey, let go of me." I managed to yank my hand back, glaring up at the hybrid dude weirdly.
"Sorry," He held his hands up innocently, trying for a smile but landing on a smirk. "Just trying to figure things out around here."
"You're not alone in that aspect, Doc. It seems everyone's trying to learn something about me."
He laughed a bit, crossing his arms over his chest. "It's nothing to say that you're an interesting specimen, Grian. I'm simply trying to ensure that you mean us no harm."
"If I wanted to hurt anyone here, don't you think I would have done that already?"
"Possibly." He glanced at my base, tutting in approval. "Nice build. Have you done this for a while?"
"I wouldn't know," I looked up at the futuristic cake as well, "I mean, I don't remember much before this whole mess."
"The word 'much' suggests you do know something." I flinched a bit, hand going instinctively to the note in my hoodie pocket.
"I meant to say nothing." I bit my lower lip, avoiding the piercing gaze from my right.
"Sure." He chuckled once more, and out of the corner of my eye I watched him slip out a trident. "I'll leave you be. I think I've learned everything I need to know about you."
He popped into the water just outside the outer rim, holding his trident in a throwing position. "Just be warned, Grian. If you choose to hurt any of my friends, any of them at all... you'll have to deal with me."
Doc threw the trident into the air, holding onto it as it launched him out of the water. His elytra popped open, and he flew towards the mainland.
I watched him go, holding myself completely still. I wouldn't admit it aloud, but I had a feeling that he hadn't handed out an empty threat. I looked back at the ring I had begun to build, and lost any motivation to build for the day.
I hopped down into my base, settling on spending some time digging a hole below my base. I wasn't sure what would go down here eventually, but for now it was great stress relief.

"So? You think he'll say yes?"
"I dunno... he isn't very good at basic survival, especially with the new updates this world has been going through. He's still in the early days."
"Hey, none of us care whether he's good at this or not. I mean, none of us really do much surviving one way or another."
"...true. I'll ask him."
--
"Are you kidding? This... this is a huge honor, Oli! Of course I'll do it!"
"Really?"
"Yes really!"
"Well... welcome to $^(36&%492^9-

"Hop in first, 6714^78*^$#! We'll come meet you in a moment."

Okay so I got some really good feedback on the last part. I will definitely keep adding in stuff you want to see, but I hope this is alright for now. There will be more ConCorp shenanigans (especially since I've discovered my love of Scar who's only a year older than me what the crap-) and hopefully a meeting with the ZIT squad.
If you guys ever want to see anything else, like Grian meeting someone new or someone having a Moment, then please let me know. I'm including as much as I can in general, but with the small changes I'm making in terms of characters and plot it's hard to incorporate all of season 6.
-also I really like the idea of Doc being protective over his friends and this character trait of his is gonna come in big when we get to later parts of the story so be prepared-
