Chapter 6

CHAPTER 6

It was 6.30 in the morning - moroi dinner time. I was getting ready to the dinner. Luckily but unfortunately, Sara couldn't help dress me up since her mom wanted to help her. I was in my room going through all my dresses until I found a black knee length strapless dress. I took it out and left it on the bed. As I walked into the bathroom, my phone rang. I groaned and walked lazily to pick it up.

"Hello?" I grumbled.

"Hey, Soph. it's me. I just want to say you're five minutes late."

"Really? I thought it was at seven?"

"Nope. Six- thirty." I could tell Sara was grinning.

"Oh. Alright. I'm coming"

I hung up and ran into the bathroom to take a real quick shower. When I finished, I rushed around to put my clothes on me. I was hopping around when I was putting on some flats. Since I was quite tall, I didn't really need to wear heels. (not really bragging... but, yeah..)

I practically ran in my fullest speed towards the room we were having our dinner in. I sighed and walked in. I closed the door and felt all eyes turn to me. "Sorry" I muttered as I took a seat in between Sara and my mom while opposite Daniel. He gave me a small smile which I sincerely offered back. After minutes of talking, our food arrived. Everyone was talking small talk. Sara mostly talked to me but I just nodded and said a "Yeah" or "Yes" to reply her. It felt like hours sitting there when I could have sat in my room watching the television or something.

Once the dinner finished, Lissa gave an 'exciting' idea to have us paired up so the guys would have to walk the girls back to their rooms. Of course, my mom was with Dimitri, Sydney with Adrian and Lissa with Christian. Sara went with Mikael, Valerie with Joe, Rosie with Mason and Andre with Emily. That literally left me with my mentor. Unfortunately, I felt relieved that he was my 'date'.

Everyone soon parted and Daniel left with me to my room. I walked in front of him. We didn't talk at all and the silence was killing me. I mean, seriously, dude! Now, how hard can it be to talk to a girl who you talk to everyday?  Since we reached my door and he so clearly wasn't going to say anything, I started a conversation awkwardly. "Soooo" I said turning to face him but bumped into his chest instead. Boy were they hard.. Probably due to all the training to be a guardian for god knows how long.  "How old are you?" I blurted out. I widened my eyes and mentally scolded myself as I bit my lower lip. He chuckled.

"No need to get so worked up on that" he said still chuckling.

I bit my lip harder.

"Twenty- one" he smiled.

"You're so carefree right now? Did you just forget what happened in the plane?" crap! I mentally scolded. Why did I have to bring that topic up? He tensed and gave a small smile.

"I still remember it but I hope we can forget it ever happened."

"I'm sorry" I whispered tilting my head down.

He lifted my chin up with his hand and made me face him. L stared deeply into the orbs of his green illusive eyes. Oh, how breath taking they were.. his sandy brown hair as in a mess and my gaze traveled down to his lips. I couldn't help myself but wonder how soft and kissable they were. We were soon moving towards  each other while our eyes still locked on each other. It was attractive. We were like the North and South pole of magnets. Always drawn to each other.

He broke the connection by clearing his throat. "I should go. You probably want some rest, anyway" he said awkwardly. I shook my head no. he raised an eyebrow. I shook my head no again. He sighed. Showing he actually admitted defeat. I was pretty happy for winning at least one argument.

Sophia 1, Daniel 0.

Yesss! Hooorayy! Bravo!!

Whatever.

I smiled and opened my door, walking in, hoping he would follow. Which he surprisingly did. I took off my shoes, dropped it on the floor and walked into my bedroom. "Make yourself at home.. I guess" I said. He nodded and sat on the couch. I changed into some comfortable pyjamas and walked back to the living room. "Sooo..." I started.

"Did you enjoy dinner?" he asked.

"Yeah. It was.. nice." I replied. "How about you?"

"Good. Very entertaining though"

"What do you mean?"

"You looked very beautiful. I mean.....,you still do just... I'll stop" he scoffed and I blushed.

"Thanks. You look good yourself" I said, still blushing. "Want to watch a movie?" I randomly asked. Stupid! Stupid! Stupid! I mentally scolded. I mean "You want to watch a movie?"?! seriously?! This guy was about to kiss you ten minutes ago and you ask that?

"Uh...sure. What do you have?" asked Daniel.

"Depends.... What do you want to watch?"

"You choose" he replied.

It actually ended up being a spy movie. Cool but I actually fell asleep halfway. God, I must really be that tired.  Another 'vision' clouded my dreams and peaceful blackess of sleep. It was getting more hurtful and private for my mom. I mean, this stuff shouldn't be seen by children or teenagers. Especially if it is about their own parents. Halfway through the visions, I started screaming a "Stop" and "No". I couldn't handle it anymore even though I actually could. Somehow, my mom's life scared and creeped the hell out of me. More than anything else.

I opened my eyes and sat up panting and sweating. Daniel was beside me. "Shh. Shh. It's okay. It's alright. You're fine" he kept on repeating it like a mantra to sooth and calm me down. I couldn't take it anymore so I hugged him tightly. I desperately needed someone to calm and care for me. I knew it seemed like I was begging but I felt that I was practically on the verge of losing my mind.

I let go of him and wiped my cheeks of the warm tears that escaped my eyes.  "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to" I apologized. He shook his head no. "No!" I exclaimed. "I mean it. I really am sorry" I said. I didn't really get it. One minute I was crying and the next I was angry. Creepy...

"It's alright, Sofiya." Said Daniel. "Do you want to talk about it?"

I told him everything about my visions and he listened just as other times. "Anything else I should know about?" he asked. I shook my head. "Do you want to tell other people? Your mom, perhaps?" I snapped my head up.

"No way am I telling my mom I can see her life in my sleep" I scoffed.

"Dimitri?"

"No" I replied flatly.

The list went on and on until I stopped when he said Sonya. "Wait.." I blurted out. He raised an eyebrow. "I'll talk to her.." I said. "But, ... you'll have to follow" he sighed. I smirked. As usual, we planned to visit her the next day since we're only leaving in the afternoon. After all, it was late. Okay, scratch that. Very late.

                                                  *_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*

I woke up to a bright light shining through the windows of the guest apartment. I squinted and covered my face with a pillow. I groaned. "Wake up, sleepy head" my mom's voice called. I got up from the bed too quickly and left her standing there in 'guardian- attack mode'. "geez, Sophia, when did you become so fast?" I smirked and didn't bother answering her question. I walked into the bathroom and took a nice warm bath. I towel- dried my hair and changed into black skinny jeans and a white blouse.

When I walked out, my mother was still sitting on the bed. I sighed. "What do you want?" I cut right through the chase. Hmmm. There could be anything she wanted except-

"So, how was your night?"

Crap. I knew she would ask that. "Fine. Why?" I asked. "Yours?"

"Oh. It was nice. I was just asking" she said innocently. I scoffed.

"Why are you acting so innocent?"

"Ugh. Why do you have to think and say that?"

"Never mind...."

I left her on the bed and walked out the door. I wonder how she got the key to my room..?  I walked in the direction of the café and waited in line. "Are you ready to talk to Sonya?" I gasped and turned around, startled by Daniel's voice. "Sorry" he apologized.

"It's alright. Yeah, I'm just a little..... nervous. I don't really tell anyone my problems"

"I noticed" he replied casually, looking at the menu displayed. I smiled.

After getting my food, I sat at an empty table and started eating away. Daniel soon joined me. After finishing our food, we made our way to Sonya's house. She stayed at court to help Lissa find out more about spirit and help her through it. Daniel knocked on the door and we waited. "Coming!" Mikhail hollered. The door opened and Mikhail stood at the door. "Daniel?" he looked at me, then. "Sophia?" he questioned. I smiled sheepishly.

"May we come in?" spoke Daniel.

"Sure.." replied Mikhail.

We walked in and my eyes quickly wandered around for Sonya. "Umm, where's Sonya?" I asked looking back at Mikhail.

"I'm here" a voice hollered. Sonya walked out of the kitchen and looked at us. "Oh. Daniel, Sophia? Why have you come?" she questioned. "Not to sound rude or anything" I shook my head and Daniel smiled.

"We need to talk to you, Sonya" replies Daniel seriously.

She must have sensed the urgency in his tone because she told Mikhail to get some drinks. He nodded, kissed her forehead and left in the direction of the kitchen. Once he was no where in sight, she told us to sit down. "How... I .. nice to see you, I guess" Daniel nodded once and I bit my lip.

"Now, Sonya,... we... Sophia has something to tell you"

"Umm... I .... i.. I don't know how to explain it.." I said truthfully. "Can you explain it?" he sighed. Under normal circumstances, I'm guessing she would have thought I was pregnant or something.

There it was- Daniel said exactly everything I told him. From the beginning to the end. He left no stone unturned and no words changed. Boy's got a good memory. When he finished, Mikhail came back with the drinks and sat beside Sonya. "So.., you're telling me that you are dreaming about your mom's life when you sleep?" said Sonya.

Mikhail froze and looked completely shocked. I bit my lip and nodded. For the first time in eighteen years, I'm staying silent. Wow! My mom would be proud. Not. I'm freakin dreaming about her life and god if I see her when she's... I cringed. "Yeah. She hesitated in telling me this and I had to force her to tell you too" answered Daniel.

"Why didn't you tell Lissa?"

"She's  afraid to tell her. She thinks that Lissa will tell her parents-" I widened my eyes and nudged him with my elbow. Shit! He forgot to NOT mention the part that I know who my biological dad is.

"What do you mean parents?" asked Mikhail.

"Umm. Nothing. I just realized we have to go. We're late for training anyway" I got up, dragged Daniel out the door, said thanks to Sonya and Mikhail and took a deep breath in.

Once we were out, Daniel let my hand go and stopped. "What now?" I asked impatiently.

Why didn't you tell them?"

"How am I supposed to say that?" I asked.

"You could have thought of something!" he exclaimed with a mentor- tone.

Oh, no you don't get to use your mentor voice on me. "Stop it! Just stop helping me!" he froze. "Why are you helping me? Huh? Why?!"

"Because you are my student" I scoffed.

"You should know that's a crappy answer, right?"

"No it isn't! Why are you acting like this?!" he exclaimed, raking his hand through his hair.

"Because I'm always like this!" I shouted. "Do you have a problem with it?!"

"Yes. Yes I have a problem with it! It's so irritating! You're eighteen for god's sake! Can't you act like one?!" he shouted.

 "Wh...what?" I stuttered. "Are you calling me a kid?" I asked softer but still angrily.

That's it! He seriously sent me into a madness overdrive. How dare he call me a fuckin kid? "Yes! You act like one sometimes! You pretend to be brave and cool but you aren't. You're nothing like your mother so don't act like you are! If you god damn wanna be so  much like her, you don't have to create all these lies like 'visions' about her fuckin life, Sophia!" he shouted.

I laughed. "Wow! You.. you of all think I'm lying about it. I trusted you! And this is what I get?! For trusting someone?! I don't give a damn about what happened in your life that made you change to become so much like Dimitri.... But you know what, I don't need your stupid help anymore. In fact, just go back to your old life where you don't have to mentor me! I can take care of myself!" I shouted.

I took off running without any choice for direction. I couldn't turn back. I couldn't and I wouldn't let Daniel see me cry. He can go to hell for all I care. What do I matter to him? I'm just a student who has a messed up family life and lying just to get attention right? Why should I care what he thinks? I don't know how far I ran but there was a stream. I bent down beside it and started crying my eyes out.

My heart just broke into pieces, just like my mother's did when Dimitri said "Love fades. Mine has". Why am I feeling this way? NO! I couldn't worry about that now all I have to worry about is going back. And facing him. How can i? After all that happened, I know things would be pretty awkward.

I drifted to sleep hearing my soft sobs and the sound of the water flowing in the stream. I never thought I'd be so happy to sleep in my life since the dreams started.

                                                          ~~~~~~~~~
I awoke to the sound of people talking. The last I heard before being knocked out was "Sleeping beauty awakens" and a cackle. I felt a sharp throbbing pain at the back of my head. Black spots appeared from nowhere and soon formed a huge black wall preventing me from seeing anything or anyone.
Rose's P.O.V.
The whole gang were seated in the café in court. As usual, I was eating some chocolate eclairs. "So, guys, what do you think about it?" Lissa asked excitedly.
"I think it's a great idea. What do you think, Rose? Jill? Sydney?" asked Mia.
"Yea. Sure" I replied.
"Okay" Sydney answered. "Great. I'm in" Jill exclaimed.
"What about us, guys. I'm sure e wan-"
Daniel sprinted across the café towards us. He was panting and he looked scared and nervous. I didn't say anything but Dimitri did. "Why are you panting?"
"I'm sorry, Guardian Hathaway. I didn't mean to" replied Daniel. Dimi raised an eyebrow.
"What are you talking about, Daniel?" I questioned.
"Dan, come sit down and tell us" Sydney patted the chair beside her.
He hesitantly walked over and sat down. He ran his hand through his hair and kept shaking his legs anxiously. "Daniel, please tell us what's going on?" Lissa asked completely calm. "You're scaring us" I grabbed Dimitri's hand and prepared for what he has to say to me in case it was bad. Dimi squeezed my hand reassuringly and chuckled a little bit.
"Guardian Hatha-"
"Call me Rose. We know each other. Please," I said.
"Rose, i... I need to.. tell you something.... It's very urgent. It's about Sofiy-"
"Don't tell me that she's in love with you" we all chuckled. He looked at me confusingly but it changed to dead seriousness and anxiety and nervousness back.
"No. it's not" he lowered his head and ran his hand through his hair again. "At least, I don't think so"
"Dan, what's wrong? Why are you so worked up?" Adrian asked.
"I... I.... I " he sighed. "Sophia's missing" he blurted almost too quickly.
I stood up from the chair pretty harshly, making it fall down. Everyone at the café stared at me. I walked over to Daniel dangerously as he got up too. Sydney and Adrian got up to protect their son but I pushed them aside. "What do you mean she's missing?" I growled. Dimitri grabbed my hand but I yanked it away.
Lissa got up and stood in front of me. "Rose, it's alright. Daniel will tell us what happened. Don't worry" she explained. I shot her a deathly glare.
"What do you mean it's okay?! My daughter is missing!" I shouted. She backed away a little. No guardians or anyone else dared to interfere because right now, my anger was very high and Lissa once told all the guardians that if we fight in public or privately, don't interfere.
"Let's  take this to our house, Roza. Where it is more appropriate and where there isn't any audience"
We started
We startedwalking to our house which we reached in about five minutes of walking. During the whole walk, we were quiet and nobody said a word. Daniel, who was still hanging his head down, refused to even look at anyone.
At our house, Dimi opened the door and let everyone inside. Once everyone was inside, I ran up to Daniel and pinned him to the wall. "Now, you are going to tell us what exactly happened. And I mean everything" I growled. He nodded. I let him go and Dimitri quickly held on to my waist securely.
Adrian walked to his son and healed him in case he had any injuries. Lissa took a piece of silverware from the table and charmed it with spirit. She gave it to me and I took it knowing if I wouldn't, I would probably attack Daniel again. And again.
Once we were all seated, Daniel started talking. I thought he was hiding something but he didn't mention about it. Everyone gasped and listened carefully to the story like two Moroi ladies listening to the hottest gossip which happens to be 'Rose Hathaway's daughter, Sophia has gone missing'. Once he finished, I rushed out of the house and stormed to court to find the head guardian, Mikhail Tanner. I found him in his office working on papers.
"Mikhail, we have a problem," he looked up with questioning eyes, silently asking me to elaborate on what I meant. "Sophia's missing"
Talking about missing, Daniel and Dimitri just interrupted us by bursting into the room. "Mikhail, what should we do?" asked Daniel.
"Oh. No. you are not doing anything. We are." I replied.
"No." he exclaimed. "I'm her mentor and I'm responsible for her"
"Well, I'm her mother" I replied confidently.
"Well, I don't care. When I do something wrong, I'll make sure I repair it" he answered walking out of the room. I stared at the door stunned. He was so much like Sydney but yet not as much as he is to Adrian.
