Chapter 1

CHAPTER 1

I woke up to someone shaking my body. I groaned and fluttered my eyelashes. I got up to see Sarah standing by my bed and looking directly at me. "What do you want?" I groaned.

"Come On" she groaned. "Get up already. I've been trying to wake you up for the last 15 minutes" she said looking at annoyed. I sighed and flipped the covers off me and she moved away, letting me get off the bed and into the bathroom.

"What time is it?" I asked groggily. "Why did you wake me up? I was having a nice sleep for the first time in this whole week" I looked at her emerald eyes. The same eyes her mother, Queen Vasilisa has. Her hair was neatly brushed and she wore a nice elegant dress with some flats. "So much like your mom" I muttered.

"Why do you have to ask so many questions?" she asked, clearly annoyed I'm grumbling at this early in the morning. "Never mind. It's 8:30 am. Because its time for breakfast." she grinned.

"It's alright but why are you here? Aren't you supposed to be in the moroi dorms? And how did you get here?" I asked curiously.

"Relax, I wanted to wake you up. No. The dorm is clear except for a few guys walking around and of course, the matron cannot resist the daughter of the queen." her grin broadened.

"What will I ever do without you?" I grinned back and walked into the bathroom. I probably fell asleep again in the bathroom because Sarah was knocking on the door shouting "Sophie! Come out, now!". I woke up and offed the shower.

I opened the door and found Sarah, again standing there annoyed with her arms crossed on her chest. "Sorry" I said

"Never mind...., let's go". She dragged me out of the bathroom and into the hallways to the cafeteria. Luckily, I'm fully dressed in a pair of jeans, a t-shirt and some sneakers.

When we arrived at the cafeteria, I saw my friends, Mason and Mikael Castile, Joseph Tanner and Iris. Sarah and I got our food and walked over to our table. Minutes later, our other friend, Valerie Drozdov joined us. "Hey, guys" she greeted.

"Hey" I muttered while everyone else greeted with full energy. "Did you guys hear?" asked Jo with a smile. "Hear what?" I asked curiously. Everyone looked at each other with big smiles and turned to look at me. "Spill" I growled

"Oh. Alright" Mike said. "Yeah, Jo, tell her.". they all looked at Jo and then me and Jo started talking. "Remember, soph. I don't want you to get angry or anything but please don't do anything stupid" he said.

"Fine. What is it? You're making me impatient." I said irritated of the waiting. "Well, Kirova kind of talked to your mother and.......since you're falling behind in combat class...," he didn't finish probably because he noticed the anger and raged expression on my face. Sarah gulped. "they decided to give you extra training classes. Sort of like,.......when your mother was 17" now, he gulped.

I stared at him not knowing what to say but i just said "Where's my mom?"

"Right here" I heard a familiar voice say. I turned around, shocked to see my mom here. "Mom?" I asked still shocked and full of rage.

"Yes. Before you ask, Sarafina, your mother and father are also here." she looked as beautiful as she was 18 year ago. Her long dark hair tied into a ponytail and she wore the royal guardian's uniform. My mother turned on her heels and kissed Dimitri. I gasped.

"Get a room!" someone exclaimed. I looked behind Dimitri and saw my uncles, Christian and Adrian and my aunt, Lissa. "hey, sparky,.I don't believe you don't do this with Lissa...........do you?!" she asked. My uncle Christian's face turned red while aunt Lissa blushed and he said "carry on then"

"Hello, Sophia" was all Dimitri could say. I nodded and looked at Sarah who got up from her seat and ran towards her mom and dad.

"What are you guys doing here?" i asked. "Is that all you can say, my dear?" i turned and saw my grandmother, the great Janine Hathaway standing there. "You're just like your mother, you know that?" i shook my head no, a bit annoyed at her comment.

"First of all, I'm nothing like my mom. Second, you do not have the right to make decisions for me and third, I DO NOT NEED EXTRA TRAINING !" I exclaimed. I walked off leaving the whole cafeteria staring at me. I walked out of the campus and started walking towards the church when I banged into someone. Damn! I can't even concentrate on where I'm going. "I'm sorry" I told the six foot four guy standing in front of me.

He had green eyes. Sort of the ones like my uncle Adrian has with sandy blonde hair. He wore a blue t- shirt and a three quarter length coat. Talk about cute guys with coats?! " It's alright. What are you doing here? It's breakfast. You're supposed to be at the cafeteria" he said. I didn't realize I was staring until he glanced away. I also realized that he was also looking into my brown eyes. I actually snapped back to reality when I heard footsteps behind me. I turned around and saw my mom and Dimitri running towards me. They slowed down when they saw I had company.

"Young lady, what do you think you're doing?!" my mom exclaimed. I stared at the ground and bit my lip. I was getting ready to run off when the guardian behind me started speaking.

"Guardian Hathaway. Is this your daughter?" he questioned. I turned around and glanced between him and my mom. I looked at Dimitri with a questioning look and he smiled. My mom nodded.

"Sophia, meet Daniel. He is your new instructor" I looked back at him and wanted to throw a fit but decided not to since this guy was kinda hot. Guess I kinda am like my mom in taste with guys.

"Nice to meet you" I said trying to sound happy but probably failed since he didn't show any emotion at all. I took his hand from his side and shook it, causing him to flinch at my touch. At the corner of my eye, I saw my mom and Dimitri smile broadly.

"You too. My name is Daniel Belikov" he finally said. My jaw practically dropped. I glanced between him and Dimitri and started to burst out laughing. They all looked at me questioningly while I was literally rolling on the ground.

"What's wrong" Dimitri finally asked. I shook my head still laughing and managed to get up and stop laughing at all the strict and stern faces they were showing.

"I'm sorry. I just never knew you had a son, Dimitri. Especially one that looks like Adrian" I said. The minute I said that, all three of them froze. "W..What did I say wrong?" I stared at my mom curiously waiting for an answer.

"I...I am Adrian Ivashkov and Sydney Sage's son " I gaped and this time, my jaw hit the ground. Not really, though.

"Are...are you serious?" I ask still surprised. He nodded. "You're a..... a royal..... dhampir?" I asked and he nodded. "Just like.....Mikael and... Mason" I said and he nodded again.

"Tomorrow is our first lesson. Don't be late" he said and left me with my parents. I watched him walk away until my mom cleared her throat.

"I'm sorry, honey but your marks are quite bad. If you really want to protect Sarafina like how I protected Lissa when we were your age then you'll have to do well" she smiled gesturing for me to hug her. I actually gave in but hugged Dimitri instead.

"I'm sorry. I didn't know..." I said with tears forming in my eyes. Then, I did the worst thing I could probably do- kick Dimitri and punched my mom. They fell down and that earned me enough time to run back to my room and lock the door. I didn't even feel hungry. When people started knocking on my door, I just shouted and told them to go away.

BAM!!!!!!

My mom and Dimitri were standing in front of my now broken door. My mom was in front of Dimitri. "What the hell?!" I exclaimed.

"You are grounded, young lady" she said.

"I already am, mom!" I exclaimed.

"Enough!" Dimitri shouted. "What's wrong?"

"Nothing, okay. My head hurts. That's all." I explained.

"How did you learn to hit like that?" my mom questioned.

"I.... I ...... I don't know" I said, trying to remember what happened.

"Never mind. Rest, Sophia. Come on, Roza. We should leave her to herself" said Dimitri

I sighed and stared at the door. Damn it! Why do my parents have to be freaking gods and godesses of battle? I always asked myself that question. I always saw my parents but they were always busy unless they had off days. They were always guarding Lissa and Christian. I was raised by Lissa and Christian except on days my parents didn't have to work. They - Lissa and Christian, always said it was the least they could do for a close friend. Sister, even. Dimitri isn't my dad but he volunteered after my dad had used my mom.

Rose's P.O.V.

I got punched by my own eighteen years old daughter who also kicked my husband. "Why does this keep happening to me?" both me and Dimitri said in unison. I giggled and he chuckled.

"I can't believe my daughter actually outsmarted us" I said shocked at recent events. Dimi just smiled, did that cool one eyebrow thing and caressed my cheek.

"Oh Roza...... what will I ever do without you?" he chuckled. "Roza, Sophia is our daughter . I remember you were once like that. She's got a lot of you in her" he smiled. My stomach fluttered when he said our daughter .

"How I wish she was more like you..." I said and he smiled.

"She is. But in different ways" he kissed me on my fore head and walked away. I sighed looking at him elegantly walking away in his six foot seven glory. I smiled remembering the time he helped Adrian, Mikhail and Eddie burst me out of prison and about me wishing how Sophia would be like him. Even if....

He probably realized I wasn't walking because he turned around and said " Aren't you coming?" he smiled. I grinned, not being able to control my happy mood. "I just wish she had your genes in her too. Less me and more you.." I muttered.
