~FIRST LOOK~
Alex's POV:
I woke up to the insistent blaring of my alarm clock, reluctantly pulling me from my dreams into the reality of a new day. The warm morning sun spilled through my window, casting a golden glow across my room. Accompanying the sunlight was the melodic symphony of birds, their cheerful chirping coaxing me to leave the comfort of my bed. I stretched, feeling the stiffness of sleep slowly ebb away, and swung my legs over the side of the bed.
My morning ritual began with a sluggish shuffle to the kitchen. The promise of coffee was the only thing that could pry me from the clutches of my morning laziness. The familiar hiss and gurgle of the coffee maker were a symphony of their own, heralding the start of my day. I cradled the warm mug in my hands, its aromatic steam enveloping my senses as I took that first blissful sip.
With the mug in hand, I wandered back to my room, drawn by the enchanting view outside. Perching on the windowsill, I gazed at the world awakening before me. The skyline painted in hues of pink and gold, a canvas crafted by nature's hand. The city stirred to life below, the distant hum of traffic and the faint echoes of conversation creating a background melody.
With the mug drained, I dashed to the bathroom, craving the soothing embrace of a hot shower. Steam enveloped me, washing away the last vestiges of sleep. Wrapped in a towel, I sauntered back into my room, the lingering scent of soap mingling with the freshness of the morning air.
I patted my skin dry, allowing the towel to gracefully find its way to the floor while I headed towards my meticulously organized closet. Everything had its designated spot - I've always been a stickler for order. Scanning the array of options, my fingers settled on a classic black t-shirt and a pair of well-fitted black jeans. The monochrome look was calling to me today. My eyes then lingered on a sleek black leather jacket, a statement piece that completed the ensemble.
I pulled on the outfit and stood before the mirror, contemplating my reflection. The idea struck me to let my shoulder-length hair cascade freely instead of tying it back - it added an effortless allure that I couldn't deny. Surveying the final look, I couldn't help but acknowledge the undeniable charm; it was as if a newfound confidence had wrapped itself around me.
Turning my attention to my shoe rack, I faced a sea of black footwear options - boots, shoes, sneakers, you name it. It's not that I'm fixated on black; it's just that black pairs effortlessly with any outfit. After a bit of searching, I finally unearthed the perfect pair of black boots. I slipped them on, each foot finding its place with practiced ease.
With wallet and college bag in hand, I made my way out of the room, locking the door behind me. The promise of the day's adventures lay ahead, wrapped in the scent of fresh beginnings.
As I descended the stairs and entered the kitchen, the lively scene of my parents and my little brother greeted me. A cheerful "good morning" slipped from my lips, and my little brother James practically launched himself at me, his face lit up with an infectious grin. His excitement was palpable, especially since today marked his first day of school. He's four years old, and we share a special bond - he never misses a chance to jump on me with glee.
Scooping him up, I settled him beside me at the breakfast table. His tiny chatter about making new friends at school was music to my ears. It's heartwarming to witness his happiness, and it mirrored my own. Mom soon emerged from the kitchen, placing a plate of fluffy pancakes in front of us. James and I attacked our breakfast with gusto, drizzling chocolate sauce on our pancakes and devouring them with delight, the joy of the morning shared between us.
As my first day of college dawned, I had an important task before setting foot on campus - dropping James off at school. I straddled my beloved black Harley Davidson Sportster, a machine that resonated with my love for sports bikes. The rumbling engine kicked to life as I prepared for the ride. With James's school conveniently situated just a fifteen-minute ride away from my college, it was a journey I was accustomed to.
The responsibilities of my parents' jobs as a lawyer and a doctor meant that their schedules were unpredictable. This made it challenging for them to personally drop off and pick up James from school. Hence, the responsibility fell to me. While our family had drivers and cars at our disposal, James had a preference for me to be the one to drop him off. His connection with me ran deep, and he preferred the comfort of my company over the luxury of a chauffeur-driven car. With a helmet snugly secured, James mounted the bike with a grin, and we set off on our morning adventure, the engine's roar carrying us towards new beginnings.
James clung to me like a koala on the bike, his laughter riding on the wind as we navigated the short distance to his school. After dropping him off with promises of a grand adventure at school, I revved the bike to life once more, making my way to college.
Soon enough, I navigated my way through the college entrance on my bike, smoothly pulling into the parking area. My gaze landed on a familiar sight - my best friends eagerly awaiting my arrival. With the engine's growl fading away, I dismounted the bike, a grin of recognition spreading across my face as I greeted them. The camaraderie and anticipation in the air were undeniable, a reassuring reminder that this new chapter of college life would be marked by the bond of friendship.
Indeed, Caroline and Jack were my best friends since childhood. They embodied that unique blend of being both annoying and deeply caring, a dichotomy that seemed to define all best friendships. Their familiar presence at the college entrance reminded me of how lucky I was to have them by my side.
As I approached, Caroline playfully chimed in with her characteristic exuberance, "Hey, idiot! You're late. Didn't we agree to meet here half an hour earlier?"
Before she could finish, Jack jumped in, his tone teasing, "Yeah, says who? You got here just five minutes before Alex did. Who's late now?"
Caroline's playful expression transformed into a death glare directed at Jack, effectively silencing him. This sudden halt in their conversation had an underlying reason - they were dating each other. Their unspoken dynamic spoke volumes, an intricate dance of understanding and familiarity that only the closest of relationships could comprehend.
"Thank you, Caroline, for gracing me with your lecture even before classes have started. It's been a long seven hours without it," I exclaimed with a playful grin, addressing the fact that Caroline's spirited conversations could be quite entertaining.
Amidst my remark, Jack burst into laughter, clearly amused by my words. I nudged him in response, a silent indication to keep things in check. Caroline, on the other hand, shot Jack a fierce look, her eyes communicating a stern "this isn't over." It was clear that Jack's laughter had consequences, and Caroline's warning indicated that he was in for some trouble. The intricate dance of their relationship continued, marked by a blend of camaraderie, teasing, and affection.
Our footsteps carried us towards the college entrance, the three of us engaged in lively banter and shared laughter. However, in the midst of our camaraderie, a sudden sting of pain jolted through my cheek, accompanied by the distinct sound of a slap. My reflexes turned my gaze towards the source of this unexpected impact, and there before me stood the enigmatic figure with piercing ocean blue eyes.
Locked in that intense gaze, it felt as though time had frozen. Those eyes seemed to draw me in, their depths captivating and entrancing. I was engulfed by a sensation akin to drowning, my senses overwhelmed by the connection between our eyes. A thousand thoughts raced through my mind, but words eluded me. In that fleeting moment, the world seemed to shrink, leaving only the two of us in this charged exchange.
As I instinctively soothed my stinging cheek with a hand,What met my eyes was nothing short of stunning - a captivating girl with a fiery aura, her ocean blue eyes locking onto mine. Her jet black hair framed her face elegantly, creating a mesmerizing contrast against her fair complexion. She exuded an air of confidence that was hard to ignore.
Her attire was equally striking - a pink strapless mini dress that showcased her silhouette, complemented by dangling earrings that added a touch of glamour. The white heels she wore added to her height, enhancing her overall presence. My gaze couldn't help but linger on every detail, captivated by the allure she effortlessly emanated. In that brief encounter, the world around us seemed to fade, leaving only her image etched into my memory.
"What the hell?" I exclaimed, my hand still instinctively rubbing my stinging cheek.
"You deserved that," she shot back, her words brimming with anger.
I was taken aback by her response. Who was she, and why did she feel justified in slapping me? Confusion swirled within me, the abruptness of the situation leaving me momentarily speechless. However, before I could voice my thoughts, Caroline intervened, sensing the tension.
"What's going on here?" Caroline's raised eyebrow matched her inquisitive tone.
I pointed toward the fiery stranger with the ocean blue eyes. "This girl just slapped me out of nowhere."
Caroline turned her attention to her, clearly intrigued. "And why did you do that?" She asked, curiosity etched across her face. The scene had taken an unexpected turn, leaving us all grappling for answers.
