Chapter 2
-
Jungkook spent hours sitting by the han river, just talking to Yoongi on the phone, until his battery died and he was exhausted beyond his limits, too tired to even cry anymore.
His heart hurt, his omega quiet now, withdrawing into the darkness, unresponsive.
Jungkook walked to the house he lives in, Taehyung's house to be precise. It wasn't Jungkook's, never will be.
That's the first thing Taehyung had told him, back on their wedding night.
" I may have had to marry you but I will never accept this bond. You are nothing but a burden, a sinkhole I was forced to fall into, and I swear to whatever God is out there, you will never have a place in my heart. This house, is just temporary. It will never be yours. You are just a little showpiece I was forced to keep, so get it in that little head of yours. I despise you. I despise your existence. This, whatever crap they call the soulmate bond is just a rope that is strangling me, and If I could, I would get rid of you just to break out of this hellhole"
Each word spoken on that day, was still ingrained in Jungkook's head, every single word, spoken with so much hatred, that Jungkook's soul had shivered.
That was the first day his Omega had been broken. It was the first of many heartbreaks.
Everytime Taehyung opened his mouth, it would break Jungkook's heart.
Bit by bit.
Piece by piece.
So much so that now, Jungkook did everything just to avoid his husband. Staying out late, keeping to himself, not attending functions and any other way he could.
If it meant not having to hear all the hurtful words that Taehyung had for him, Jungkook would gladly spend his nights on the streets of Seoul, alone.
He couldn't always avoid it, he knew, but anything to minimize the pain his omega was going through.
Fate was cruel to him, no doubt.
And this, soulmate bond, was the most cruel thing fate had given him.
Perhaps, Jungkook made it worse by falling for the man who kept breaking his heart.
He saw Taehyung's car parked outside the house, and he willed his mind to be strong, to gather enough courage to enter the house, praying that his husband was already asleep.
It was a little over 3am, so perhaps luck would be on his side, atleast this once.
It wasn't.
Because sitting on the kitchen counter, a glass of whiskey in his hands, was his husband, his mate.
"Where the fuck were you?", the Alpha growled, angry pheromones clouding the air, making Jungkook's omega whine in distress.
"I went out for some air", Jungkook replied back, walking straight ahead, trying to escape to his room.
"Stop", an Alpha command was issued and Jungkook, having no choice had to obey. Taehyung was his alpha after all.
"Why did you leave the party so suddenly? Everyone was asking about you? I didn't have any idea where you were. How can you be so selfish? Can't you just let me enjoy one night in peace?"
Jungkook bit his lips harshly, trying to control his tears as he whispered ," I'm sorry. It won't happen again"
But Taehyung didn't care about his apology. The Alpha was so angry.
"Like hell it won't happen again. You are so pathetic. I told you I didn't want to see you there and yet you show up. Don't you have any shame? Always have to make me look like a fool. I have told you countless times that I do not want you near me in these functions and yet you always have to ruin things for me. Can't you just fucking disappear?"
There was silence after that. Jungkook not saying a word, and Taehyung, well, he was trying to rein in his temper.
A sob broke through, no matter how hard Jungkook tried to hold it in.
"I'm sorry", He whispered out, before gathering all his courage to break the Alpha command and run up to his room, locking the door.
His omega was crying, in pain, both from breaking the command and those harsh words, while Jungkook's body gave up, his strength disappearing as the weight of breaking the Alpha command took a toll on him.
He laid there on the floor, sobbing, his body not cooperating, while his head and heart pounded with pain.
Pain.
Such a weird thing. It makes you feel, makes you feel alive. And yet, this pain felt like Jungkook was dying.
He fell asleep after a while, his body giving into the exhaustion, and yet again, Jungkook failed to notice the blood that was running out of his nose.
Or perhaps, he knew but chose to ignore it, for the fear of what it meant.
_
He woke up late the next day, still lying on the cold floor. The house was quiet, so Jungkook knew Taehyung had gone to work.
He walked towards the washroom, not bothering to look in the mirror as he washed his face, before brushing and showering.
He dressed, picking up his laptop bag and walked out, getting to his bike, and drove off.
Today was his book reading, a book he had written just a little over 5 months ago.
It had been an instant bestseller, not that it mattered to his family or his husband.
No one cared. Everyone was always against Jungkook's decision to be a writer.
They wanted him to join the family business but Jungkook, he never had a thing for business.
Meeting fake people and pretending, wasn't he already doing it enough in his marriage that he had to do it double the time?
No. Business wasn't for him.
Jungkook found comfort in the pages he wrote. The stories he created.
He found comfort in giving his characters what he couldn't get in real life, a love story worth living for.
His agent/manager, Yugyeom stood there by the library, where the book reading was supposed to happen.
"Hey man. I tried calling you but your cell was switched off. Is everything alright?", Yugyeom couldn't help but ask.
Jungkook looked pale, paler than usual, and tired.
"Got home late from the party last night. Forgot to charge it. Do you have a charger here?", Jungkook ignored the question about whether everything was alright or not.
He couldn't deal with telling another lie, he had told enough yesterday already.
"Yeah I have one. Give it to me and I'll put it on charging. The library has a place for charging"
Jungkook gave his phone to Yugyeom and proceeded to take his place in the center, while the crowd started filling in.
Jungkook read through the pages of his book, filling his mind, imagining the scenes as the words left his lips.
It was a love story. One where the main character realizes very late about the importance of love in his life.
It was ironic. Really.
The story was everything Jungkook wished for in his life, and yet, he didn't get it. So perhaps, that's why, he wrote this book, atleast the happy ending he didn't deserve could be given to his characters.
The book reading was a success as well as the book signing.
Yugyeom accompanied Jungkook out, stopping to ask him about his new project.
"So when are you going to start on the new book? Wooshik-nim told me you agreed for the deadline to be in 5 months? Isn't that too early?"
Jungkook sighed. Yes. It was perhaps too early. Writing a book takes time, perfecting the characters, putting life into the story, it took time.
But for Jungkook, writing meant not having his mind wander to his broken bond, his painful life.
"It's not. I'll get it done, don't worry. I already have an idea in mind. Have written a few chapters as drafts. I'll send you the first 10 chapter in 1 months time"
Yugyeom smiled, " that's awesome man. I wish I had your talent. You are like a wizard of writing. 5 bestsellers in a span of 4 years, you really are amazing"
Jungkook gave a sad smile, eyes melancholy, "only you think that Yugs, other people think I'm wasting my time. I'll see you next week. Thanks for charging my phone "
Jungkook left Yugyeom standing there, smiling sadly.
Yugyeom had been Jungkook's friend for years, he was even the best man for Jungkook's wedding because Jungkook's bestfriend wasn't able to attend.
He has only ever seen Jungkook smile genuinely when he was reading his books, other than that, there was a strange sadness shrouding the young writer.
Yugyeom didn't know what was the cause of it, but he knew one thing for sure, Jungkook was suffering silently.
The strongest ones are the ones who suffer the most, afterall.
