Chapter Eight: How have you been since we've been gone?

"I wish I could see you now, as the nights roll by
Yes time flies by, and I wish you were here" – Omae Dattanda (It was You) by Kishidan, 2009

Two nights ago...

Taehyung had broken into hysterical tears the second it was announced Jimin was found, having to be comforted in Namjoon and Seokjin's arms. They were all having a moment of hysteria that their precious member was still alive.

Jungkook let out a small whimper, covering his mouth as his eyes shone with tears.

"Hyung... Hyung is ok!" Jungkook said, his hands cupped over his mouth.

The police were looking for bodies, but there he was, ok and alive. He was found, and he was where he belonged, back amongst the living.

Yoongi could only stare at the screen as they saw more and more police officers leave the building. People were in blankets, people were in handcuffs... And some people were dead.

When they ignored that last factor, it didn't even matter that much. It may sound cruel, but that was just the way things worked. They had held out for as long as they could.

But Jimin was amongst them. He was among those that held out for almost 4 years and survived. He had lived, but they all knew that he wasn't going to be the same.

The reporters weren't allowed to go anywhere near the victims. As much as they wanted statements, they weren't allowed to get them.

'Please, the victims need space! It would be rude and misguided to let you go any further than this point!'

Namjoon shut off the television, his hands resting on his stomach. BangPD had been the one to keep the news channel on tonight, in fact, most of the idol world had most likely heard about it and was tuning in as well. He was still stuck in the mindset that this was all a dream, and he was finally waking up.

Seokjin opened twitter and saw Jimin's name trending worldwide for the first time in a while. Every year on Jimin's birthday, the fans would reminisce about the lost member. They would post pictures, make video edits, and would even go as far to build tiny shrines and sing happy birthday to him because no one else would do it. He would trend for two days straight before his name disappeared from the twitter trending page. This time, circumstances were different and Jimin was trending because he had been successfully retrieved from the hands of evil.

Yoongi looked absolutely starstruck, his eyes glued to the screen as he saw Jimin out of the many people there on the screen. The cameras only seemed to focus on a few other select faces before it went back to focusing on Jimin.

He looked so different... He looked so damaged, so fragile as if you could tip him over with a single blow of air.

Hoseok, Taehyung, and Jungkook were arguably the most affected by all of this. Jimin had been closest to Jungkook and Taehyung since all three of them made up the maknae line, but Hoseok had been one of his closest confidants next to Taehyung. Hoseok had helped him improve their dances when their choreographer was too busy. Hoseok gave him pointers on how to improve and even let Jimin pitch in at sometimes.

To Hoseok, Jimin was like his starry-eyed protégé. He was eager to learn more from the elder and wanted to be helpful to him in any way he could. Hoseok thought it was cute at how much he admired his older hyungs. He didn't think he would be able to make up for so much lost time, but now he believed he had a chance.

To Taehyung, Jimin was his other half. Their fans made jokes about them being a couple or being in love and going as far to say that they were married all the time, and Taehyung sometimes thought it was true. They acted like a married couple on camera and off camera they were a lot more affectionate. Jimin usually came to him for cuddles unless Namjoon wasn't working. And even if Namjoon didn't make the offer, Jimin would still cuddle with him. You could say they were close, but sometimes Taehyung and Jimin felt they were more than close.

To Jungkook, Jimin was his sweet hyung who put up with everyone else's shit better than Seokjin and sometimes Namjoon. Back during their trainee days and even during their first few years of debut, everyone could agree Jimin could be the backup big brother of the group when Seokjin wasn't around. Jungkook was awfully mean to Jimin during their debut days and often made it come off as he hated him. But Jimin, being the sweet soul that he is, put up with it and made everything seem ok. When Jungkook overworked himself or felt overwhelmed, Jimin usually knew before Jungkook himself even knew. He would come to him with a tub of marshmallow fluff, some tea and would let him talk all his problems out and join him for cuddles afterward.

He thought he had grown out of saying hurtful things to Jimin and doing things to Jimin that would hurt him years ago, but that day in 2019 proved otherwise. He was irritated and grumpy from the lack of sleep he had been getting and was extremely hungry. He had taken out all of his pent-up anger out on Jimin and one hurtful remark was enough to do it in for him. He never thought he would get the opportunity to apologize to Jimin for what he had said and make things right, but now he could. Now he had a chance... Now he could get rid of the guilt in his heart that had been keeping him awake in the middle of the night.

Today...

They all went to see Jimin. They made sure to be extremely careful in how they went about things. They knew the media would be scoping every inch of the streets looking for some type of updates about the victims...

There were at least 20 victims in total that were still alive and there was another 15 of which had died from infection and disease and another 15 that had died from aggravated assault and or murder. There were another 10 missing victims that had yet to be found. Word around the police station is that they had been bought out by people interested in human trafficking those 10 victims, but they would get names and such from those brought into custody soon enough, they assured.

They didn't even know Jimin was apart of the bigger picture. Who knew how many more people had died or had been trafficked or had been kidnapped and taken advantage before Jimin had got there?

They had to see him, and they had to see him quickly. They loaded up the van and started the long drive to one of the largest and most protected hospitals in Seoul. That way, no one was coming in or going out without some sort of authorization. And now that this whole kidnapping mess had come to a very uneasy conclusion, tensions were reasonably high.

They had gotten the information about the hospitals from the police and were on their way to see Jimin. They had gotten the all clear from both the police and the hospital to see Jimin.

'He's not the same Jimin you once knew and loved. Victims of these circumstances never come back the same they were when they left. Just remember that, ok?'

They would be forced to carry on that burden for the rest of the time they were alive, that for almost 4 years the could do nothing to help Jimin but wait and watch the story unfold. Now that he was back, they didn't know what to think.

After about a half an hour drive, they arrived in the underground parking facility underneath the hospital. One of their managers had come with them just to report on anything strange that had happened while they were out. They rode up the elevator to the lobby and went to the front desk.

Sure, it may have seemed a bit strange to see 8 people in line for the same exact thing, but it was worth the strange looks and stares to see their brother again.

They were asked to put visitor stickers on their chest and were to give the receptionist some form of identification, whether it be a driver's license or a birth certificate. They were all forced to get licenses before getting to the military, so they all had their licenses somewhere on them.

A doctor led them up to the area where the kidnapping victims were being held. There was crying from another room and a loud amount of screaming coming from another.

"Doctor, you don't understand! He just knocked the camera out my hands!"

"And as a registered rape kit user you should have expected this to happen. The poor boy has been traumatized with use of videos and photographic leverage to keep him in line! This behavior is extremely unprofessional of you and I hope to never have to see it again."

The doctor walked away as the lady sighed, shaking her head.

"It was only a few photos... None of my other victims have reacted this way..."

She disappeared around the corner with a couple other nurses. They were following right behind her before she disappeared inside one of the rooms.

Jimin's room.

They saw Jimin getting held down and injected, his body convulsing and thrashing as they tried to get whatever medicine, they had into his body.

Eventually, Jimin stilled. His bandages were unwrapped as he had begun to bleed through them with all the moving around he had been doing. They had to re-insert his IV drip into his arm and then they left him be.

"We are sorry for the inconvenience, but Jimin-ssi may not have visitors until he has completely calmed down and we can finish doing our jobs."

They made it sound like they were being forced to do this job. Yoongi wanted to go up to them and give them a small piece of his mind. They had held him down like some animal when whatever he was feeling was completely valid no matter what. Like the doctor the woman had been talking to before they went separate ways, he had been traumatized, so of course, he wouldn't react the same way as someone who had just scraped their knee or something!

"Yoongi-hyung, calm down," Namjoon said from beside him. "We saw what we saw. Jimin was hurting himself, not on purpose perhaps, but he could have severely hurt himself if they didn't sedate him."

Yoongi turned away, not wanting to admit Namjoon was right. Namjoon was always right about these sort of things, but Yoongi still clung on to a lot of pride he had when it came to Jimin.

"They didn't need to handle him so roughly... He deserves to be treated with care too."

Yoongi leaned against the wall, his arms crossed as he looked up at the ceiling. Today was going to be a long day.

It was two hours until they heard something about Jimin. One of the nurses had his head peeking out at them.

"Friends and or family of Jimin-ssi?"

They all were called to attention with a simultaneous, "Yes ma'am!"

"We were able to complete our procedures without much struggle. You are allowed to see Jimin-ssi only as long as you stay a good distance away. Victims such as these don't really like being within close proximity of people..."

They all vocalized their understanding and the nurse let them in.

"Jimin-ssi? You have visitors."

The door was closed behind him and Jimin looked up from his lap with glassy, widened eyes.
