Fuck, if we didn't get out of that suite, we may never have. Sky, normally dressed, is sexy. The way she looks tonight is next level. She is seduction on two legs. Albeit innocent and oblivious. Walking behind her as we make our way to the elevator, I'm given a view that almost rivals an aurora borealis.
I was surprised Sky chose this dress. It's the most seductive out of the lot, and I got it more as a fantasy on my part, never dreaming I would actually see her in it. But dreams come true, apparently, and reality is better than fiction. From our interactions so far, Sky has a curiosity about her sexuality that, as shy as she is, she seems to want to delve into. She hasn't had the opportunity to, so I'm not surprised. I just wonder, if it was anyone else in my place, would she be as open to exploring as she has been with me? I hope not.
The dress from behind showcases her ass, which while not huge, is curvy. The dress shows off her smooth back, the material blessedly covering the dimples on her lower back. If those were on display, I would have had to convince her to change. They are for my viewing pleasure only.
As she walks, you can get a glimpse of her delectable legs through the slits on each side—legs which not long ago were wrapped around my body. The thought of that situation, which we hadn't addressed, makes me hot and bothered.
We get to the elevator, the doors opening coincidentally as we get there. We climb in, and I press the reception button, only four floors down. I take in Sky's reflection in the mirror. The front of her dress is dipping into a v, revealing smooth white skin and hinting at her breasts depending on her movement. It's so subtly seductive. Her makeup is simple yet effective, drawing attention to her beautiful hazel eyes and deliciously plump lips. Her hair has been styled so that she looks elegantly wild. She is breathtaking.
I can feel her become anxious as we get closer to our destination.
"Don't worry. You'll be fine. It's just a fancy dinner." I'm trying to calm her down.
"Just smile and follow my lead." I give her a smile in the mirror, one she nervously returns before she inhales deeply and releases her breath as the elevator doors open.
We are a couple of minutes late, and most of the guests have made their way to the dining room, leaving the area around the fountain bare, save for a couple of stragglers moving slowly inside.
As a guest of honor, we are seated at the front of the room, a fancy rectangular table of six. We will be joined by the other two representatives and their partners. Before we enter the hall, I look down at Sky, holding the crook of my arm out.
I see a surprised expression on her face before she loops her gloved hand through. She looks up at me, giving me the biggest smile ever.
We enter the hall. The conversation immediately dies down as everyone watches us. As our table is in the front, we must pass many tables on the way, leaving whispers in our wake. Speculation about who Sky is to me being top of the gossip mill.
Some men are greedily eyeing her, looks of lust crossing their faces. The dimly dim lighting shadows Sky's features and curves, highlighting her assets. I catch the eye of some, a warning being issued with a look alone before they avert their gaze. From the way Sky is grasping my arm, I can tell how tense she is.
As we walk up to the main table, I see the others are already seated, murmuring amongst themselves. Their attention turns to us as we approach.
With it being Markos' turn to do a speech this year, he is seated in the middle, Elanor on his left. I had my turn last year, grateful that this year my only task will be hoarding off a bunch of lusty men looking to get lucky with Sky. Fun. Raina is seated next to her partner Ally at the other end of the table. They have been together for decades, long before humans finally started accepting that anyone can love anyone.
"You decided to join us," Marko says, amusement in his tone.
We stop in front of the table. "Marko," I say, nodding in acknowledgment.
"Skylar, this is Marko. You've met Elanor. Over there is Raina and her partner Ally."
Marko looks at Sky with curiosity. Elanor is smiling at her, but I see a tinge of jealousy cross her face before she swiftly covers it up, draping her arm through Markos. Raina and Ally look uncomfortable as they first look at Sky, then at each other, unspoken words passing between the two witches. They are anxious, their heart rate giving their state away. I will ask them later what's going on, unfortunately now isn't the time. I'm not sure if Sky saw it. If she does, she ignores the looks and politely greets everyone before we shift to take our seats.
I am seated next to Elanor, while Sky is seated on my left. I pull her chair out, pushing it slightly in as she sits before taking my seat. Elanor is eyeing my every move, her eyes roaming lustfully over my body. Sky, noticing this, is averting her gaze, looking at anything but me or the rest of the table.
Marko opens the dinner with a short welcome and thanks to all the guests. Shortly after, appetizers are served, beef tenderloin and blue cheese wraps. I mentioned to the chef when I saw him after coming out of the meeting that Sky was a vegetarian, her meals being swopped out for suitable alternatives. A waiter fills our glasses with fancy wine that pairs well with the appetizer.
In the middle of the vast dining hall is an open area with a band playing music off to the side. ISky sits quietly, forking the food on her plate.
"Are you okay?" I ask her, leaning in close so only she can hear.
Her gaze shoots up to mine.
"I'm fine," a small smile appears on her face. "It's just overwhelming. And there are so many people. I didn't realize we would be sitting up here, in the front. Where everybody can see us..." she trails off, chuckling.
"Don't worry. It's only two hundred people looking at you." This causes her to laugh, forcing a smile on my face. She is so beautiful when she laughs.
"I'm used to people looking at me. It's been that way all my life. People think I'm weird, and that's fine," she chuckles, "but I fear I may be ruining your reputation," her smile falters slightly as she says the words.
"Why would you ruin my reputation?" I ask her, curious about what was happening in her head.
"Well, look at you and look at me. I know they must be wondering what we are doing together."
"I told them I am protecting you. Even if that wasn't the case, I'm not sure what you mean by 'look at you and look at me,'" I say flatly, honestly not sure what she was getting at.
"This isn't me fishing for compliments, Dmitri, but you and I are like the school football player and the gawky nerd in the corner. I mean, have you seen the women here? They look like supermodels," she laughs again, me growing increasingly addicted to the sound.
"Wow, you are truly oblivious, Skylar. Do you know why everyone is staring at you?" I question her, my expression serious. She shakes her head, eyes glued to mine.
"The males in the room are lusting after you, seduced by your every move, while the women are mostly jealous, wishing they had half the charisma you have without even opening your mouth."
She is gazing at me intently, a blush forming on her perfect cheeks. As she is about to say something, Elanor moves her chair beside me and stands up.
"Oh, Dmitri baby, Marko doesn't want to dance with me," her voice is sickly sweet. "Come dance with me," she demands, holding her hand out. Everyone's eyes are on us, watching this play out. Marko is looking at me, an amused smile on his face. Refusing would mean causing a scene, especially since Elanor made this display public.
"One dance," I respond to Elanor quietly in a clipped voice, ignoring her hand as I get up.
Unperturbed, she wraps her arm around mine, her lean body clad in a figure-hugging, way-too-short red number pressed tightly against my side.
As we walk to the dance floor, I look back at Sky. She isn't quick enough to cover the hurt expression on her face, which I see just before she gives me a bright smile.
Before I get to the dance floor, I notice Benjamin rise from his seat at a table near the back. His gaze is intently focused on the spot behind me. Jealousy flares up, my fist balling at my side.
