Dmitri

She is sitting in front of me, all the color drained from her face at my question.

"I-I'm sorry, Dmitri, I wasn't thinking. I was so wrapped up in the moment...and I haven't been touched in so long, or very often, that I lost control. I can see now why you're angry. The thought didn't even cross my mind at the time. I really am sorry, Dmitri," she says quietly, distraught written all over her face.

She thinks that's why I'm angry when, in reality, the thought of other...boys touching her is what is infuriating. So much so that my Lycan feels like coming forward. And that makes me even more irate. Why I even feel something about it makes me angrier. I felt nothing at the thought of other men touching Elanor, which is what happens in an open relationship like ours, so where is this coming from with Skylar?

"I'm not angry about that, Skylar," I say, trying to console her and rein in my anger. "I'm just angry about what you went through." I lie, not wanting to disclose the real reason for my sudden aggression.

I remember feeling the same anger yesterday when Ben wrapped his arms around her. I had visions of myself ripping his limbs off and slapping him with them.

Jealousy. Fuck. I am jealous. My hands ball into fists at the realization. I haven't felt this feeling in centuries, but with her, I'm feeling it more than I like.

I hit the table, shocking Sky, who jumps back, nearly toppling her chair over with her in it. I grab the back, steadying it before it falls.

She is afraid, I can smell the fear coming off her, and her heart is beating erratically. She is gripping her chest in shock.

"Sorry," I say, fisting a hand through my hair as I look at the table. Minutes pass in silence, with just the sound of our ragged breathing. Our breathing settles, and I get a semblance of a grip on my feelings.

"I'm sorry, Skylar," I say sincerely, looking at Sky, who has just been sitting there quietly, staring at me.

"It's fine...you just gave me a fright," she says, a small smile on her face.

"So, let's just move on, hey?" She moves to get up. She is always running away from things. Trying to smooth them over, not look at them too deeply.

Before she can get up, I ask her, "So why didn't I pass out last night? Aren't you curious?"

"I don't know, maybe it was a fluke? Or maybe it's because you're a Lycan? Or maybe the previous two times were coincidental, and it's not me? It could be anything." Confusion creases her brow. I think she is as curious as I am.

Maybe it has something to do with you and me, silently goes through my mind.

The tension is broken by the ringing of my phone, lying on the bedside table. I get up, cursing my phone, which carries on ringing incessantly. I reach it and answer with a curt "Hello."

I wander back to the bedroom door, watching Sky, who moves from the table to the balcony.

"I am aware, yes. I'll be down in an hour as scheduled," I say in response to the gentle reminder from the event organizer of my responsibility to chair a couple of meetings, the first of which starts in an hour. Pack treaties and dispute resolution between races. Duty calls.

I head to the bathroom, taking a quick shower before throwing on a crisp white shirt, black suit pants, and a matching black suit jacket. Tailor-made as I can't get a suit in my size in regular stores. I leave the top button open, deciding the tie can eat shit today. I hate suits.

I run my hands through my wet hair, pushing it back and off my face. I need a shave, but it will have to wait until later, as I'm already late.

I add some cufflinks and throw on some polished black shoes that perfectly match this suit and head out of the closet.

I come out just as Sky is coming back into the room from the balcony. She halts abruptly, her eyes trailing from my hair all the way to my feet. It feels like she is leaving a wake of fire behind. Her eyes dart back to mine.

The breeze coming in from the balcony brings with it the sweet scent of her arousal. My eyes darken. She looks away, making her way to the coffee machine. She is squirming. Fidgeting with her cup before she turns around and looks at me. "You're going somewhere?"

"I'll be back in a couple of hours. Some pack meetings and other boring shit to do." I gesture to my suit.

"You look nice in a suit." She unconsciously licks her lips as she follows where my hand is gesturing. Realizing, her eyes flicking back to mine, and her cheeks flush with embarrassment.

"Stay here. I haven't introduced you to everyone, and there are some strange characters here." I'd rather she not wander around without me there to protect her. "Knock yourself out with the TV and press nine on the hotel phone for room service."

I turn around before exiting. "I'll be back as soon as possible. We have dinner at eight in the dining room downstairs. Go through the dresses in the last cupboard in the closet and pick a dress and shoes for tonight."

Her expression turns to delight, then drops as I almost see the thoughts running through her head.

"I bought them especially for you, Skylar, before we came, and had them delivered here."

Her face lights up again. She thought they were Elanor's. She is so easy to read sometimes and so difficult at other times.

If she ever sees Elanor, she would laugh at the idea that the two of them could share clothing. Elanor was taller and slimmer than Sky, with a more risque style that easily revealed more than was necessary. Chalk and cheese.
