'DADA for beginners'

Maisy had tried to stay up until Hazel got back but she had failed, and seeing as she wasn't in her bed she probably stayed in Mattheo's. The dull ache in her chest felt as if they had clawed at her chest and pulled her heart out. But she decided not to dwell on it and get ready for Defense Against the Dark Arts, her first class of the day. Supposedly they had gotten a new professor this year, just like they had the past four years at Hogwarts.

Of course she had no control over Mattheo or Hazel, they could do as they pleased, but it hurt that the one person who knew of her crush on Mattheo was sleeping with him. It hurt that Hazel - of all people would do this to her, the two girls had been the first friends they had made at Hogwarts.

As she walked into the DADA classroom her eyes examined the room, Mattheo sat beside Hazel in front of Theo and a Ravenclaw girl, and Enzo sat alone most likely saving the seat for her, he sat at the desk ahead of the four of them.

Exhaling a breath she took a seat beside Enzo, sending him a smile as she did. " Hey." He sent her a smile back with a nod.

" Morning Mais."

" I heard we got a new professor, wonder if this one will last last?" Lorenzo let out a snort and shook his head. Every DADA professor they had always ended up getting fired, they quit or they disappeared. Everyone knew Snape was the person for the job but Dumbledore never gave him the position. And it really pissed Maisy off, she had never been Snape's favorite but she still rooted for him.

" They never do."

With a sigh her gaze turned towards Mattheo and Hazel, as they both laughed at a joke the Riddle boy had just made. Enzo followed her eyes as she had not answered the question he had just asked. Lorenzo knew that look, it was the same look he had when he saw Maisy and Mattheo together.

" you love him?" He asked as he nudged her making her eyes redirect to him, the silence between them gave her away.

" Don't worry, your secrets safe with me."

" thank you."

He nodded his head towards the two, he knew the request he was about to ask was a selfish one but he wanted her even if the whole thing was fake. To him it would be better than never having her at all.

" I have an idea that might make him realize he wants you." She leaned forward waiting for him to continue which made him smirk.

"Watch and learn, Nott."

He placed his hand on her upper thigh, the coldness of his rings made her gasp. Which - as planned- gained the attention of Mattheo, Enzo leaned in closer, his lips grazing her ear. " I believe it's working." He nodded towards Mattheo who was gripping the table so hard his knuckles were as white as Malfoy hair. Thankfully Theo was too engulfed in the girl he was with he didn't see the encounter.

Suddenly the paper bird that had been flying around, collapsed on a couple of Gryffindor's table. Enzo pulled away from Maisy leaving her a blushing mess. A woman decked out head to toe in pink walked in the doorway with a giggle, that made Maisy want to rip her eardrums out of her head.

" Good Morning, Children."

Maisy and Lorenzo shared a look as she started to walk down the isles between the tables. " Ordinarily Wizarding Level examinations." She spoke as she used magic to write on the chalk board at the front of the room.

" O-W-Ls."

The cheerfulness of her voice made Maisy want to throw herself off the Astrology Tower. Never in her life had she heard a voice as annoying as hers, not even the Gryffindors.

Enzo leaned over towards the Nott girl. " Pansy said she gave a speech last night during dinner, if so I'm glad we missed it." Maisy let out a chuckle, so low no one else could hear.

"More commonly known as OWLs, study hard and you will be rewarded. Fail to do so, and the consequences may be severe." With a flick of her wand, the textbooks for this class are being passed out. All while she had a sickening smile on her face.

Maisy knew this year would be the best yet, sarcasm intended, even though they were a few minutes into this class.

" your previous instructions in this subject had been disturbingly uneven. But you'll be pleased to know, from now on you'll be following a carefully structured, Minstry- approved course of defensive magic."

Enzo let out a scoff as he showed her the cover of the textbook. 'DADA for beginners'. She herself let out on looking through the book, which had no spells that could help them defend themselves.

Of course, Grangers hand popped up,- she didn't hate granger as most Slytherins did, she just envied her, how smart and pretty she was.

"yes?" The professor asked.

" there's nothing in here about using defensive spells." There was one thing that Maisy liked about Hermione was that she would call someone out, with not even meaning to.

" using spells ?" She asked with her annoying giggle. " well, I can't imagine why you would need to use spells in my classroom." She said walking closer to the Gryffindor. The tension arose in the air as some students looked at her confused and while some glared- The Slytherins being the latter.

" We're not going to be using magic?" Weasley asks before Maisy had the chance.
"How will we protect ourselves?" She adds on, her head resting on her hand.

She takes turns looking at the two. " You will be learning about defensive spells in a secure, risk-free way." She says with a smile.

"What use is that? If we're attacked, it won't be risk-free." Umbridge and Potter than began to argue, about Voldemort. She had heard Mattheo take a breath in at the mention of his father.

The rest of their time in the class went painfully slow, the lesson ending in Potter getting a lecture and detention. Enzo kept his hand on Maisys thigh the whole lesson, gently massaging it.

Theo, Mattheo, Enzo, and Maisy decided to skip their next lesson seeing as it was herbology. They snuck up to the astronomy tower to smoke. - except Maisy since Theodore never let her near a cigarette or joint.
