Lucas' pov

I stare blankly at the paperwork right in front of me, no longer seeing the words written on them due to the exhaustion.

"Ugh" I groan. Dropping the files down to the desk, rubbing my temples.

"Works got to ya huh?" Adrian, my Beta, walks in.

I sigh in response. I'm too tired to reply. As many times I told him not to walk in without a knock, he still doesn't listen.

"The pack has been really busy lately" he said coming over to the desk. "And with the other packs coming in 6weeks time. Things will get busier" he sighed.

"You don't have to tell me twice"

Being in the generation of Royalty, it is my duty to make sure my pack and the others are safe and cared for, even occasionally hosting the party.

Like this year's eclipse, it happens only once in a hundred years, and my grandfather, the former King, would tell me stories about it and how it's most special time for us.

"Anyways..."

I look up at him as he suddenly changes the subject. "What?"

"Y..your well...yo—"

"Just spit it out already" I almost growled

He cleared his throat "your sister is here"

My blood went cold, she wasn't supposed to be here till next week "Why is she here?"

"She said she wanted to surprise y-"

Daphne suddenly burst through the doors "Surprise brother!"

I glared at her as she made her way to my desk "I knnnnooow, but please don't give me that look" she frowned slightly raising her eyes but putting them back down when I stare at her.

"Adrian. Leave."

Adrian took the queue and left with his head bowed down cause of the power I was giving.

Once the door was shut, Daphne sighed. "You know you got to stop doing this, or else I think I'll start missing you the more" she smiled.

"I didn't say move" I frowned.

"Yeah. I know but how am I supposed to hug you from here".

"I don't need your hugs" I spoke and started going through the files again.

"Yeah yeah. You being an Alpha and such. But doesn't mean you're not my favorite person" she winked.

She was the only person that kept on being persistent even after I gave her the cold shoulder. She's my little rascal.

"Get to the point"

She scoffs "you truly are a man of few words huh" she hops on the desk. "I can't even get smile from that handsome face of yours"

"What is it Daphne" I almost growled but held myself.

"Finee. Since you're boring to talk to" she rolled her eyes jumping off the desk.

She suddenly goes quiet as I continue to scan the paperwork. I turned to glance at her cause she hardly goes quiet, you can hear her from a mile away.

"They're gone Lucas" she whispered. "The rouges... found us"

I turned to face her, eyes flashing black. "They took everyone...I couldn't stop them" she gritted. Her voice coming out dual.

Unlike me, Daphne knows how to control her wolf, but I can't, mine is persistent, he claws at my mind trying to break free.

It takes a lot of will power to bring him down.

"We were patrolling borders because we're hearing of rouges attacking the nearby towns"

"What happened Daphne" I asked trying to get to the point.

"He sent them! He did this!" She yelled, her control slipping.

"Who?"

"Damian!"

My mind went in a spiral.

Damian? Where is he! My wolf on edge and ready to pounce. I tried pushing him down to think straight.

"How do you know it's him" my voice coming out dual too.

"His scent. It lingered in the air. It was faint but I knew it was him

"He knew we were there. He followed us and took them away from me!" I watch how tears stroll down her cheeks even as her eyes were her wolf's.

"He made me watch them die! I have to kill him! He took them away"

I had sent Daphne to recruit warriors to go with her as a border patrol party that way if any pack has issues with rouges, she was to handle it.

And most of her friends were with her, I was told.

And I know she cares about them.

I didn't know what to say, I couldn't even find the words to say. I didn't have the feeling Daphne felt, I didn't feel the amount of sincerity to her friends.

So I had no choice.

I sighed and shifted my chair to completely face her opening up my arms. "Come"

She looked at me, her face all emotional and instantly she came to me sitting on my laps and hugged me dearly.

I only responded with a small stroke on her back.

She sniffles before she starts to smile

"I thought you didn't like hugs"

"Don't flatter yourself, I just didn't want to hear your horrible rants" she laughed.

"That's better than showing no emotion"

"Okay are we done here?" Prying her off me.

"Finee. I'm sorry" she begs "but just so you know. I kinda needed that hug" she admits getting off me.

"Thanks Lucas" she smiles. I growled "ohh sorry I mean Alpha" she giggled

"How old are you again?" I asked confused.

She gasped. "Are you serious. You think I'm crazy now? Wow!"

"It was just a question you know"

"Well just to let you know I'm a healthy seventeen year old brother and perfectly stable"

"If you say so" I shrugged

She scoffs and holds her hips

"If you're done leave" I glance at her once more before she sighs and stomped out.

"Adrian, get in here" I mind linked him

Adrian doesn't take much as a minute to get here.

"Yes Alpha?"

"It's Damian" was all I said.

Adrian was wide-eyed before he could speak. "He's Alive?!"

"I'm not sure. Daphne said he sent rogues on her"

"Wait, hold up Daphne got attacked!"

"Unfortunately yes. But she's the only survivor" I said now feeling some of the connections I have slowly cut off.

Which means he still has them. Few of them.

Adrian sighed "Damn" as combed through his hair. "So what do we do now?"

I lean back in my chair, my wolf prowling around in my head, making me feel uneasy.

"We need to be careful.  There's a reason why he left Daphne as the only survivor"

"To get to you" Adrian completed.

"Yes. And to cause a nuisance before a big event" I spat annoyed. "For now don't tell anyone only we confirm it's him"

"Yes Alpha" Adrian replied with his serious note.

"Follow Daphne to the site and see if you pick up anything, take guards with you but do it decreetly"

"Understood"
