Prologue
On the 26th day of the fourth month, Just before dusk, when the sun began it's decent upon the horizon, the Faeluria Kingdom was preparing to rejoice the arrival of the new born prince.
The Fae king and queen had tried for years to have a baby and the day had finally come to welcome him.
As king Artis left the room for the preparations, the queen held her baby boy in her arms as he unexpectedly took his last breath.
Unaccepting of his death, queen Ayanna swaddled the baby in her arms and carried him to the sacred Yggdrasil tree. She ordered her personal guard to cut a branch from the tree and chop it into kindling. The guard reluctantly did as he was told, knowing what the queen was about to do was forbidden.
To siphon such forbidden magic from the Yggdrasil tree comes with a heavy price. For not only does the one who performs the magic suffer a cursed fate, the entire kingdom suffers as well.
The guard anxiously placed the small pieces of wood into a small pile, remembering the stories from a thousand years ago, when King Abaddon attempted to use the power of the Yggdrasil to bring back the love of his life, Queen Amara. His magic was flawed, and although the kingdom was spared of punishment, King Abaddon was sent to the underworld, where he remains to this day. He wondered what fate would be brought upon them this time.
Queen Ayanna lay the baby onto the wood. Her fingers wrapped around the tree's roots as she called for it's dark magic, reciting a verse King Abaddon once had. She wasn't going to fail this time.
Within seconds the wood set on fire and the guard watched in fear as the baby prince burned. The Queen's hands remained on the tree while she chanted.
It all happened so fast that it was difficult for the guard to recall what happened next. One moment the baby was burning and the next moment he was ash. The ash then rose from a pile, swirling around in a twister of dust, clouding all the air and visibility around them. The guard shielded his eyes and when he opened them again, the queen sat on the ground cradling a crying baby in her arms.
He noticed the baby was different. His eyes were the palest blue color he'd ever seen. His hair an ash yellow and his tiny Fae wings gray instead of black. The resurrected prince cursed.
The guard then looked toward the Yggdrasil Tree in horror. He knew instantly that their peaceful kingdom would never be the same.
The four provinces of Faeluria kingdom had lived in peaceful harmony. Centered around and protected by the Yggdrasil. The tree brought balance to everything within its reach. Life, death, good and evil manifested in equal proportions, until the day the Fae queen did the unthinkable and siphoned a forbidden magic from the tree itself. Darkness instantly fell upon the magnificent tree, turning its limbs and roots to black.
At the same moment the darkness spread through the roots and into the four provinces, the fairies of Whispering Woods were also welcoming a new bundle of joy. And because the Yggdrasil demands balance, it found somewhere to harvest what remained of light and goodness before the darkness consumed everything.
As the Minister of Spring stood on the roots of the Yggdrasil and held the newborn baby girl high above his head in a gesture of gratitude to the tree, the fairies watched in disbelief while blackness spread through the whole of its roots until it reached the baby and burst into a bright blue flame.
The flame was powerful and blinding and encircled the baby girl with all its power. When the flame burnt out, the baby girl lay quietly beside the blackened roots.
The baby was no longer of pure fairy blood. She was missing her fairy wings. Her hair almost white except for the few strands of blue, and her smooth cream colored skin paired with bright royal blue eyes made her the most beautiful human baby the fairies had ever seen. Though she wasn't purely human either. Nor was she Elf, but fairy and Elf magic radiated from her glowing form.
She was special and the fairies knew, for in the same moment the cursed prince was resurrected, a Tri-ling was born and her fate would be to save the kingdom.
