Prologue- Dreams and Worth
Annabelle's pov
"Annabelle! Run!" A voice echoed into the night sky as my feet pounded against the icy floor of the frozen wood.
That voice kept me going. It was familiar and full of fear and pain. All I knew was that whatever situation the owner was in I didn't want to be in the same one.
So I ran.
"Annabelle..." A mystical voice whispered close to my ear. Deep in my soul I knew it was my enemy. The one I was running from.
"Annabelle. Slow down. I'm not going to hurt you...." It had a commanding tone to it that was like that if a parent and I almost believed it until it whispered one final word, finishing it's statement.
"Yet."
An icy hand wrapped around my arm and pulled me back as a sinister laugh filled my ears.
"No!" I screamed, sitting up in my bed, drenched in sweat but shivering.
"Annabelle! Get down here this instant!" The voice of Ms. Teller shouted from somewhere in the house. I shot out of bed and pulled my robe and slippers on, bursting out of my room. Ms. Teller stood at the bottom of the stairs, tapping her foot impatiently.
"What was that scream about?" She snapped. I looked at my feet.
"A nightmare, ma'am." She began talking but a wave of dizziness fell over me and I froze.
The view of the floor changed to a palace on the side of a cliff. Then I saw five thrones. A great lion stood in front of them, speaking to a crowd but his words were muffled like he was underwater. It suddenly turned cold and a white woman appeared in a valley of snow. A tall icy crown sat on top of her head. Different creatures jumped at her but she fought them off easily, only needing to touch each one with a staff and they turned into cold stone where they stood.
"Annabelle! Are you listening to me?" I jerked out of my trance and looked up to see Ms. Teller glaring at me.
"Sorry...what?" I asked quietly. She scoffed and threw her hands up in surrender.
"You best listen to me when I'm speaking to you."
"I'm sorry Ms. Teller...it's just..."
"Just what?" She snapped.
"I saw something. Like...like a vision...or memory..it's just like my dreams. Like I'm in a different world."
"Good luck finding a home with stories and thoughts like that." She snapped.
"What do you mean?" My voice squeaked out in fear.
"Crazy makes you worthless. No one wants a child who phases out and claims they've seen the future. Or one that wakes up screaming night after night. Before you know it, you'll be locked up for insanity. You'll see."
