Chapter 1- Strangers and Friends

10 years later

Annabelle's pov

Ms. Teller tied the label to my jacket roughly, obviously hating the fact that she had to take me to the train station and see me off.

"Professer Kirk is expecting you at his house this evening. You are to behave far above your usual manner. If I get any word that you are acting out, there won't be a place for you in London once the war is over. Understood?"

I nodded, shivering at the thought of having no place to live. Ms. Teller let out a grunt in acknowledgement before shoving the ticket in my hand and walking away. Tears threatened to spill down my cheeks as I made my way through the crowd, watching other children say goodbye to their mothers.

"Tickets please!" A woman called and I handed the paper to here. She let me through and I climbed into the train, trying to find an empty carriage. Everyone around me raced to a window to wave goodbye to their loved ones while I just pushed through and sat down towards the middle of the train.

We began moving and the door opened to reveal four children, who I assumed were siblings. The oldest, a boy with beautiful blue eyes and sandy brown hair looked at me.

"These seats taken?" He asked. I shook my head. He walked in and helped his siblings put up their luggage before sitting next to me, but leaving plenty of space between us. His siblings, a boy and two girls sat across from us.

The boy, who had dark hair, stared out the window. The two girls sat close to each other, the youngest had red eyes like she had just been crying. The older one looked a bit younger than the older boy. She put an arm around her sister and pulled her into a hug.

The train ride was long. Longer than most. Maybe it was because the professor lived out in the country. Maybe it was because of the silence between me and the four others.

When the train finally pulled to a stop at my station, I got up and took my small case, noticing the others were doing to same. The five of us walked out of the train without a word to each other and stood on the platform.

A car drove up and the siblings rushed down the wooden steps to meet it while I followed much slower. The car went by, puttering over the train tracks.

"The professor knew we were coming..." the oldest girl stated.

"Maybe we've been incorrectly labeled." The younger boy said, looking at his tag.

I reached the final step and stood there in silence, looking down at my feet.

"I'm Lucy Pevensie." The youngest girl said happily, causing me to look up. She held her hand out for me to shake it. I stared for a moment before taking her small hand in mine and gently shaking it.

"Susan." The other girl said with a smile. I shook her hand then the oldest boy took my hand. I felt a spark ripple through my arm and my eyes widened as did his.

"I'm Peter..." He said, quickly releasing my hand. When the younger boy didn't say anything, Peter nudged him.

"Edmund." He mumbled. I nodded then let my eyes fall downcast.

"Well?" Edmund snapped. I looked at him expectantly.

"What? There something wrong with your head?"

"Ed!" Peter snapped before turning to me, "What he means to say is that you never told us your name..." I felt my cheeks burn with embarrassment.

"Oh...sorry.." I whispered quietly. Then I cleared my throat and spoke just a bit louder.

"Annabelle. My name's Annabelle Rox."

"Nice to meet you, Ms. Annabelle!" Lucy said happily. Silence fell as my eyes fell downcast once again.

The sound of a carriage filled my ears as a horse whined.

"Woah..woah." A woman's voice said. I saw the hooves of the horse and wagon wheels at the edge of my eyesight.

"Ms. McCready?" Peter asked nervously.

"I'm afraid so." There was shuffling as everyone grabbed their case.

"Is this it then? Haven't you brought anything else?" Her voice was strict, reminding me of Ms. Teller.

"No ma'am. It's just us." Peter replied.

"Small favors."

We loaded into the back of the wagon. I went to lift my small bag when Peter grabbed it from me and placed it up by his. He sent me a smile and climbed into the wagon. I stepped up and sat separated from the siblings.

We arrived at a large mansion sat in the middle of a green grassy yard that seemed to stretch on forever.

As we made our way inside, Ms. McCready began to drone on and on about the rules of the house. My ears automatically tuned them out and a queasy feeling washed over me.

The world changed before my eyes to a thawing forest. The snow around me melted quickly and I felt myself remove a heavy coat from my back and set it next to similar ones. Then it changed to what seemed like a celebration. It was inside a huge throne room and all kinds of creatures were milling around and dancing. Then a boy stood before me, his blue eyes sparkling. I recognized him as Peter Pevensie, but he wore a blue tunic with gold encrusted on it and a gold cloak. A golden crown sat on top of his head.

"May I have this dance?" He asked. I felt myself nod and he led me to the middle of the room. He said something but I could already feel the real world pulling me back. Peter leaned towards me and-

"No touching of the historical artifacts!" Ms. McCready snapped me out of the vision. I looked to see Susan freeze with her hand inches away from a stone bust. She looked at us, guilt written on her face.

"And above all," Ms. McCready continued. "there shall be no disturbing of the Professor."
