Maybe a Weekend Trip?
Alec's POV
I wake up a few hours later, around dinner time. My eyes flutter open and my mother is sitting at the edge of my bed. She lets out a sigh when she sees my eyes are open. "Alec, are you alright?" I nod my head a little and begin to sit up. "Do you want me to bring you dinner up here?" She offers but I ask to join everyone. I begin to stand up and I take my mother's outstretched hand. She wraps her arm around mine and helps me get downstairs where everyone is setting the table for dinner.
They are having lasagna and garlic bread but I have a plate of chicken and broccoli. Just like it used to be. I have to be the best and can't break it... As I sit in my usual seat at the diner table, I play with my food with my fork. I just move the food around and occasionally look up at everyone eating lasagna. "Alec, do you not like your dinner?" My father asks. I just sigh. "No." I say flatly, a little attitude following. "Have some lasagna. You might like it." My mother suggests and already had the spoon in her hand to serve. This is more like it.
I just follow this routine for weeks... I wake up, go and sit at that tree to watch the sunset, go to school, get nervous when anatomy class comes, go home. I searched for a Magnus on all forms of social media and I can't find him. No Magnus Bane anywhere on Facebook. Twitter. Instagram. Nothing
I began to believe my brain, until I got to school and met Clary Fairchild-Morgenstern. Just like in my head, she and Jace started dating. She talked about the school she transferred from another school where there were parties all the time. They were "life-changing."
*_____________*
It's been almost 3 months since I woke up, it's almost Christmas and all I want is Magnus. There is only a week until Christmas and tonight was the first night Clary was sleeping over.
My mother made a casserole for dinner. Izzy was at some boys house but she didn't give the details on who it was this time. Max wasn't feeling well so he was upstairs asleep. My father is at work late. So all that was left was Jace, Clary, my mother, and I. It was a little awkward, but Clary made it almost tolerable.
"Where did you say you transferred from?" My mother asks and my heart skips a beat. "Saint Micheals. It's in the suburbs, just about 20 minutes outside of New York City." She says after chewing her food. My heart skips a beat. Magnus. My mother continues to ask questions but my mind goes blank. I just begin to think about Magnus and how he MIGHT be the party thrower at Clary's old school. I am so lost in though I begin twirling food on my fork with my fingers.
"I think I'm going to go to bed." I suddenly say, interrupting the conversation everyone was having. "Okay, if you need anything... don't hesitate. Okay?" My mother says softly. She has gotten much better with being overly concerned with my health. I run my plate from dinner into the kitchen and take the kitchen steps up to the second floor to my room.
Once I'm in my room, I begin to search the Saint Micheals school website for any trace of Magnus but I can not find a single thing. I get angry enough that I stand up and kick my archery equipment. I place my hands in my head and rub my fingers through my hair.
I take a seat back on my bed and look up the address for the school. It's only an hourlong car ride. "I could do that." I whisper to myself.
Suddenly, Jace comes into my room without knocking. Instinctly, I shut my laptop as fast as possible. "Jace what the heck?! Are you going to knock?" I rudely say. He just chuckles. "Looking up something you shouldn't?" I just roll my eyes.
"What can I help you with?" I say almost sarcastically. "Clary's staying with me so... heads up for any noises." And then he walks out, shuttling the door behind him. I close my eyes and take a deep breath. I grab my AirPods and turn them on noise cancelling.
I look at the date, December 18th... If I go to this school on Friday, I can make a weekend out of it. Get to the school, find information about a party. Clary said their was always a party. This could work... it could work... if only my mother would let me go. She would kill me if I took the car. She hasn't let me drive since I got out of the hospital.
Without a second thought, I jump out of my bed and run. Without knocking, I walk into Jace's room to see him and Clary kissing. I just squint my eyes and suck in my lower lip. "Alec come on." He says and lays his head back while Clary slides from straddling him.
"Clary, do you think we could get into one of the parties that guy has from your school?" She smiles, her eyes full of joy. I look to Jace who raises himself onto his elbows, his head turning to the side inquisitively. "Of course. You thinking of going?" She asks and before she can say anything else, Jace add "You, of all people, brother... actually want to go to a party?"
I shrug my shoulders. "I'm trying to be a new person, remember." I pause and look back at Clary. "Maybe a weekend trip?" I suggests and she begins to jump and clap her hands. "I will totally plan this for this weekend. I'm so excited!" And with that, I walk out of the room and shut the door behind me.
I get to my room and go and lay in my bed, looking at the ceiling. I close my eyes and a smile appears on my face. This weekend couldn't come any sooner...
