Chapter one
Jack Frost was a guardian now, more importantly he was believed in now, the downside was that now he was a guardian he could barely do his job. This sounds counter productive, it is. While most of the guardians have their own separate jobs to do spreading wonder, hope, and dreams to children since becoming a guardian his job of having fun seemed to get seriously derailed by all of the new responsibilities that came with the title. Fortunately however there tend to be a suprisingly large amounts of windows scattered throughout the north pole. After he finally managed to sneak out for the first time in what felt like a month he immediately went to the one place that had been on his mind: home.
Susan Sto Helit made her way along the extensive shelves of lifetimers and stopped before one that was running out.
SQUEAK
"Oh... I suppose you're right it has been getting terribly stifling here the past few..... Er... Days shall we say?" She replied to a small creature perched on her shoulder.
SQUEAK! It replied rather indignantly.
"Alright! Alright! I'll tell Albert I'll be right back, I've no intention of becoming a prisoner in my... Er Granddad's own home!" She responded taking down the lifetimer and turning to leave. She walked out into what would appear to be a monochrome hall, though all things said and done the entire world appeared to be black, white, and the dimmest shade of violet.
"Albert!" She called down to what could be assumed to be the kitchen but more clearly resembled some sort of torture chamber. A short, rather terrifying looking, old man came out with a floppy handrolled cigarette hanging between his lips.
"Yes young mistress?" He asked the cigarette flapping depressedly as he did so.
"I'm going out on a job and- oh for the last time would you PUT THAT THING OUT?" Automatically the cigarette fell from his mouth and his boot ground it into the floor. He looked down at his, now very dead, cigarette and back up at the thin woman in front of him.
"Well just so long as you come back before dark...." She rolled her eyes dismissively and walked out through the door. She climbed up onto Binky, who could be said to be her or her grandfather's horse as well as no one's horse at all, and headed off to their destination: a town called Burgess.
