~Chapter 9~
-Story Telling
(Prince Stephan's POV- The Same Night)
I was in my suit. I had everything planned out to a T. I had dinner on the Dinning Hall balcony set up, waiters with the ring in the cake, now I just need her. I walk through the castle, nearly falling a couple of times because of how much I was shaking.
I walk down and outside to the garden which is only lit by moonlight. After walking down a path I finally see her. I quicken my pace and as soon as I reach her I am meet with the green eyes of Brittany.
(Caroline's POV)
"I never put a note under your door." He said, confusion still written all over his face. "You put a note under my door." He said and I then it was my turn to be completely confused.
"I never left my room after I went to it when my mom was done lecturing us. So I couldn't have done it." I said defending my stance.
"Ok, no need to get all defensive now. We'll just agree to disagree, better?" He tried to compromise, putting out his hand to shake on it.
"Fine, we will." I said and shook his hand, narrowing my eyes playfully at him.
"Good. But since we're already dressed and out of our beds we might as well catch up over the last four years I spent away." He said and I knew what that entailed.
"Oh no." I say and sigh knowing what will come next.
"I fought dragons on mountains made of lava-" He said in a singing voice, acting out everything as we walked down the path but I cut him off.
"Volcanos." I corrected. Let's just say this continues for awhile.
"I sailed through the big bowl of salt water-"
"The ocean."
"I was brave. I scaled a tall stone house-"
"Tower."
"To kill an evil green faced person-"
"A witch."
"Who was conjuring up spells in a cereal bowl." As soon as he said 'cereal bowl' I doubled over in laughter. "What's so funny?" He asked, a completely serious face on.
"I don't know what's funnier. The fact that you said 'cereal bowl' or the fact that you are fighting things that aren't real but your still jumping around acting it all out." I say calming my laughter.
"Is that not where they make their spells?" He questioned trying play dumb.
"I'm sorry to break your heart, but its not. They make it in a cauldron." I said, patting his shoulder in fake comfort.
"Either I've been lied to my whole life or the witch is cheating on the cereal bowl with the cauldron!" He said, his face in complete, fake shock and he was pointed at nothing.
At this point I was beyond laughing. Everything he had just made up was borderline outrageously funny. He use to do this all the time when I was upset. He would make up stupid stories were he would change words and I would correct them. It wasn't intentional at first, then it became intentional. I still remember the first time he did this. We were five at the time.
~Flashback~
"Cheer up, you know I hate seeing you mad." Gabriel said for tenth time now, and I still have not said one word. "Fine, I'll bring measures into my own hands." He said looking very determined.
And with that he jumped up onto my bed and started to act out his little play, using my dolls as props when needed.
"I set out on a quest to reach the fire ball in the sky-"
"Its called a sun you nitwit." I say in annoyance.
"I shot into the sky in a metal box-"
"You mean a rocket ship."
"And entered the bottomless pit-"
"Space."
"I flew all through the bottomless pit. I even stopped to congratulate the married planet-"
"Saturn."
"I also babysat the small planet-"
"Pluto."
"But by the end of it all, I made it to the fire ball in the center of it all."
"Still called the sun, stupid."
~End of Flashback~
I guess you could say we've been doing this for years. And I would be lying if I said it didn't make me laugh every time. He would play dumb and I would correct him for the stupid mistakes. He currently stood there, a proud smiled etched on his perfectly chiseled face.
"Still works." He said proudly.
"Your unbelievable." I said shaking my head.
"You mean unbelievably handsome and smart." He said cockily.
"What ever helps you sleep at night." I said patting him on the shoulder trying to hold back my laughter.
"Your mean." He said putting on a fake pouty face.
I just laughed in response to his childish behavior. I didn't even realize we had made it back to the door to go inside we were joking around so much. Gabriel opened the door for me and we walking around the castle just goofing off. When we walked past the Dinning Hall we saw Stephan and Brittany, a competitor in the competition, talking outside of it.
Gabriel not noticing their presence, continued to joke about. It was until Stephan spoke up that Gabe shut up.
"Hello." He said plainly.
"Hi. How's it going?" I asked gesturing towards the Dinning Hall. "I smell freshly cooked food and a lot of it. So I'm guessing this was the person you were talking about."
"Wait, what n-" he started but was cut off.
"I know right. Who would have known he would chose me. And before the competition too. Such a sweetheart." Brittany said cutting into the conversation.
"But I-" Stephan tried again but was cut off once again.
"You know, I even told him to stop this stupid competition so he doesn't lead on everyone else like he hasn't already chosen someone." She said her annoying and bubbly voice ringing in my ears.
Ok, I'm not going to lie, I don't really like Brittany... or her family. Let me explain. She is the type of person who will get what she wants at the cost of other people's lives. Her parents aren't any better. Their a whole family of bullies. But of course no one would say that to them because we're all trying to keep the peace. But I have had to deal with them in the past. They had thrown my family name under the bus after her family failed to protect some ambassador they were housing in their castle. So, let's just say a few of their closets filled with clothes mysteriously burned over night.
"Well, we'll be going now. Don't want to intrude. Enjoy the rest of your date." I said pulling Gabriel down the hallway. I hear Stephan muffle something but I was too faraway to tell what he had said.
"Well, she's a little ray of sunshine, isn't she?" Gabriel commented sarcastically.
"Who? Brittany?" I ask.
"Ya, I can feel the tension between you two." He said.
"Its like that with everyone she talks to. She's the devil in disguise." I said chuckling a little.
"Then I'll make sure to steer clear away from her if she's the devil. Last thing I need is to end up in a flaming pit." Gabriel joked.
"I don't blame you." I said laughing along with him.
I wonder what she's got up her sleeve now?
