~Chapter 4~

-The News Story

(Caroline's POV)

"We have a serious problem." Were the first words to escape her mouth.

I walked fully into the room, Stephan trailing behind me, closing the door behind himself. Celeste took notice of his presence and bowed. Once she was stood up straight she sent me a glare.

"Caroline can I speak to you for a moment." She gritted out through her teeth.

"Ok?" I said more like a question than an answer.

Celeste pulled my into the walk in closet in my room and shut the door.

"Why is he here?" She whispered so Stephan couldn't hear us.

"He wanted to meet you." I said whispering.

"Meet me? Why?" She asked.

"I don't know, but he was at The Queens dinner last night and he knows that I know he was there and vice versa." I quickly explain.

"Ok, so he's in on it now?" She asked.

"Yes, he works for the same reason I do. Kind of, he helps kingdom people, I help my family." I said continuing the whisper.

"Ok fine, so I can say what I have to say in front of him?" She asked.

"Yes." I said.

"Ok, come on then." She said and we walked back out into the room.

"Hello again." He said smiling like and idiot. Probably is one too.

"Ok, down to business. What is it you wanted to tell us?" I said.

"Us?" Stephan questioned.

"You forced yourself to come, to shush and ask no questions." I demanded and he shut his mouth instantly.

"Caroline, the news and the police are on to your family." She said seriously.

"I don't understand what your saying." I said a little confused.

"Watch this. This is the news story from this morning." She said and turned on the tv.

"Once again, there is another death. Earlier this morning The Queen of Astorya was found dead in her room by her servant when she came in to wake up the Queen for her early meeting with The Ambassador of Verlor. But that's not the only death. The Ambassador of Maldoor was found dead in the bushes outside of The Queens castle, with his head completely gone. A young servant girl was also found in the bushes this morning. Police are starting to believe that targets are of those who betray the Mayers family and people of bad kingdoms. They will be looking into the Mayers family since it seems to tie to them. The Queens royal guards are asking those who attended the dinner to step forward and say if they had seen anything strange. As for The Ambassador, his kingdom is now under a different ruler. We have yet to find out who this new ruler is, but the Royal Court promises his name will be released soon. The Royal Court also says that they are looking for someone to take The Queen of Astorya's place. That's all for this mornings news, we will update you as updates come in. Have a wonderful rest of your morning." The new anchor says and Celeste turns off the tv.

"They're onto my family." I whisper in shock.

"I think you need to calm down on the targets for awhile. At least until this dies down." Celeste says.

"I agree with Celeste." Stephan says out of nowhere.

"I guess, sure. But if someone really messes with my family, I will be out of here before you know it." I say sternly.

"Of course." She says.

"What about you?" I say looking towards Stephan.

"I can calm it down, a little. But I'm not going to stop completely." He says.

"You have to stop, I don't want my family being brought into this mess." I raise my voice a little.

"That's not my problem." He says.

This little- calm down Caroline. Calm down.

"Your really being a brat right now." I scold.

"Well, I know you can't say anything about me because you know I can bring you down as well. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go back to the Ballroom. And after my time is up in this kingdom you'll never have to see me again." He says and leaves without another word.

"He's so stubborn." I say once he leaves.

"Uh, remind you of anyone?" Celeste asks, a hint of sarcasm in her voice.

"My mom." I say turning to Celeste.

"Well, I was going to say you, but I guess it runs in the family." She says.

"I have to go back down, don't I?" I question.

"Yep, they haven't even had the toast yet. So you can't just disappear so early." She reasons.

"Fine, I'll go back." I said.

"Good, and I'd avoid the prince if I were you." She said.

"Trust me I will." I say to her and walk out of the room.

I make my way to the Ballroom and back to my seat. I sit in my throne, my head resting on my hand, in pure boredom. My eyes soon find my parents, but their walking towards me, with huge smiles on their faces. This can't be good.

"Hi darling." My mother says siting next to me, and my father stands in front of us.

"Hi." I say, still bored.

"I saw you dancing with Prince Stephan." She says, still smiling.

"I was dancing with his younger brother earlier, my feet hurt from him stepping on them." I say.

"It's only because he's smaller than you, he still put in effort." My mother says.

"Then A* for effort." I say sarcastically.

"What's the matter?" My mother asks concerned.

"I'm really bored." I say honestly.

"You don't want to talk to anyone?" My father asks.

"I'm not social butterflies like you and mom, unfortunately." I say.

"Well, you'll have to learn if you want to rule over this kingdom successfully one day." He says.

"I know, but for the time being I'm still bored." I say.

"The toast will be soon. Then it's over." My mother says.

"Do you know where the Knight's are staying?" I ask curiously.

"You mean Queen Lucia and her sons?" My mother asks trying to confirm who I was asking about.

I just nod in response.

"Their staying here at the castle for the next two days." My father answers.

What! Freaking out right now! Oh no! Oh no! Oh no! Why does this happen to me!

"Ok." I simply say.

"Anyways, we should be getting back. But I have to ask, was Prince Stephan the one you went to see last night?" My mother asks, and my eyes widen.

"No, no, no, no, no! Definitely not!" I say quickly.

"Oh, we thought-" She started but I cut her off.

"He's a brat, I would never." I say bitterness in my voice.

"Don't you ever speak that way about a family member of one of the Royal Court members." My mother scolds.

"Sorry, but it's true." I say lowly.

My parents huff and walk away. Leaving me to my thoughts.

-----

Soon enough, the toast was over and so was the party. Everyone left to go home, and I headed straight to my room. I wanted out of this dress as fast a possible. It was so tight and I felt like I couldn't breath. Once I reached my room in quickly got undressed, dressed in my night gown, and went straight to bed after washing off my face.

What a day...
