~Chapter 30~
-The Return of The Girl in The Red Dress
(Caroline's POV)
"Well look what we have here?" A voice said causing me and Stephan to turn around. There stood the last person I thought I'd want to see. Gabriel. Stood next to him was the girl that wore the very tight red dress to our meeting about the war, Queen Daniella.
"What are you doing here?" Stephan asked coldly handing me another napkin to wipe my face. I quickly cleaned up and put the used napkin on the tray of one of the bus boys that passed by.
"Was I not allowed to come to the celebration of my oldest's friends marriage?" He asked, acting oblivious.
"We're not friends anymore. You obviously don't care about me, so why are you here? Just to get under my skin and annoy me." I ask coldly.
"Then why was I invited?" He asked holding up the invitation with his name on it.
"My mother must have made a mistake when she made them." Stephan said.
"You didn't do them?" Gabriel asked.
"We didn't do them. And if we did we would have made sure you weren't on the list." I said glaring at him.
"That's a little harsh coming from you. Do I not get to see Lily?" He asked.
"I want you to stay away from my daughter and my wife. You have been nothing but trouble for her." Stephan warned.
"Wait, your married to her?" Daniella asked, venom present in her voice. "You could've done better to be honest. You had a competition filled with so many princesses better than her and you still chose the worst of them all." She said harshly. It took everything in me to not carve out her esophagus with a spoon.
"Well I'm sorry if I want to choose someone who I can actually marry and not sleep with all the time." Stephan retorted and Daniella automatically backed off.
"Don't speak to her like that!" Gabriel demanded.
"Then she can't speak to Caroline like that." He retorted.
"She's way worse than Caroline could ever be. How many princes have you been with? Hum? Not counting the strangers and Dukes and Kings." Stephan asked looking straight at her.
"Stop." Gabriel said, seeming to lose patience.
"Why should I? You've done nothing but bother this family and I am not about to let you bother my daughter as well." Stephan said seriously.
"You mean your mistake." He retorted.
"What mistake?" I ask.
"Don't act like Lily isn't a mistake." Gabriel said.
"She wasn't a mistake. How dare you say my daughter, who I was carrying while you plotted war against us, is a mistake! She might have not been expected but I never once treated her like that! I've been there every waking moment for her and so has Stephan! I'm not like you! I don't throw people to the waste side because of something unexpected or because they did something I didn't like!" I said now yelling which caused everyone's attention to be on us.
"When have I ever done that?" Gabriel asked.
"I didn't expect you to leave for so long. But I was still there when you came back. I didn't expect you to blow up about Stephan either, let alone take it out on me. And I still have yet to find out why you hate him!" I argue.
"He was the one that attacked me!" He yelled and everyone gasped.
"Only because you wouldn't tell me why you were in her room so early in the morning." He retorted.
"Why should you care!" He yelling.
"Obviously I cared because I love her!" Stephan yelled.
"What makes you think I didn't love her either!" He yelled and we all went silent. I just looked at him completely shocked.
"This is our wedding. We didn't need troublemakers here. Guards!" Stephan yelled and five guards came instantly.
"Yes sir?" One of them asked.
"Show these two the way out. They are stressing my wife out." Stephan said and the guards were nice at first by not forcing them out.
"I refuse to leave. You can't kick us out!" Gabriel protested.
"We can and we are." Stephan said and waved at him just as the guard grabbed him and started pushing him to the door.
"This isn't over Caroline!" He yelled as they left the room.
"Back to the celebration! Sorry for the confrontation everyone." Lucia said, causing everyone to go back to what they were doing.
"Are you ok?" Stephan asked me in a low voice.
"Yeah, I just need some air. I'll be out on the balcony if anyone needs me." I said and started to walk away but Stephan grabbed my arm.
"Do you want me to come?" He asked.
"No, I want to be alone." I said and he let go.
I walked out onto the empty balcony and walked along the railing away from the doors so no one could see me and come bother me. I took in a deep breath of the cool summer air. It was a little cold but not too cold. I leaned against the railing staring out into the kingdom below. We were on the top floor and it was a very beautiful sight. I watched out to were the sky met the city. This is the perfect way to clear my head.
"Beautiful, isn't it?" Said a voice I didn't recognize. I turned around to be met with someone in a cloak that covered their face. "Don't scream." He said, emerging from the shadows.
"Why shouldn't I scream?" I asked backing up but I couldn't go far because the railing stopping me.
"You can trust me." He said.
"If I can trust you, then why don't you show me your face." I challenged.
"I can't do that." He said.
"Why?" I asked.
"That's what I have come to explain. I was the one that has been sending you all of those notes. I want you to find out what your parents have doing. They have been dealing with some very dark people." He explained.
"Were they the ones that killed them?" I asked.
"Yes, and your parents might even-" He said but was cut off.
"Caroline!" Stephan yelled running towards me. Out of the corner off my eye I saw the guy hide back in the shadows before Stephan could see him. "Are you ok?" He asked.
"Ya, I fine. I just need some space." I said and glanced back over at the corner to see the guy was completely gone.
"Something's wrong. Tell me what it is." He said.
"I just need to think, Stephan." I said.
"Don't you dare push me away!"
