~Chapter 1~
-The Queen of Astorya
(Caroline's POV- Dinner Party)
Music played loudly from the big Ballroom in the castle. The dinner party was now starting.
Hi, Caroline Mayers III is my name. Tonight you see my second life, I am a thief and assassin. I will execute a mission tonight, that will lead to the killing of The Queen of Astorya. She has betrayed my parents by not helping them in their time of need. But they were there with their troops when her kingdom was under attack. Now she basks in her glory at a dinner party my parents aren't aware of, that will celebrate their victory. It was my parents money and troops that saved her kingdom from going into the ground. She is evil and deceitful. She deserves every ounce of what's coming to her.
I quickly make my way through the thick black woods of the night to the back of the castle. I quickly, but discretely, take out all of the guards in the back with no sound. I then scale the castle walls till I reach an open window to the kitchen. I take out one of the waitresses with a single puncture to the heart, while she was alone in the pantry and put on her clothes. I threw her out the window I came in to get rid of any evidence that something's wrong. I also put on a blond wig to cover my brown hair so no one will recognize me.
I calmly walking through the kitchen with a vial of poison in my pocket. My eyes dart everywhere looking for her drink. I soon find the tray that had The Queens drink and I quickly poor the vial of poison into her drink. It was surprisingly easy to finding her glass because it was the only one engraved with the words 'The Queen Of Astorya'. So I took a hint and said that it must be the right glass. I pick up the tray and start to make my way to the Dinning Hall. All I have to do is make it through those doors without anyone noticing that I don't work here.
Then it happened. Someone walks up behind me and puts their hand on my shoulder. On instinct I quickly but carefully turn around, mentally preparing myself to run if I have to. In front of me stood a boy about two inches taller than me, about my age, with blue eyes and brown hair that fell down the sides of his head. He also had a small tattoo of a crescent moon right behind his ear were no one will notice, unless your someone like me. I feel like I have seen that before, for some reason that very crescent moon is familiar to me.
"You don't work here." He says in a deep like voice.
I quickly reply saying, "Yes I do, but I am new."
With an apologetic face he says, "My apologies, I didn't know."
"It's ok, your not the first to say that today." I say like it's nothing.
"Well, it's nice to know I wasn't the only one being rude to you today. I am truly sorry. You know what, I should probably walk away before I say something worse." He says and walks away.
I almost feel sorry that I lied to him now because he was so apologetic. I might be a thief and an assassin but I still have my humanity. I'm still a princess and a heir after this. In other words I still have feelings, a heart, and a soul. But some people you can't feel sorry for. Like a certain Queen that is in a Ballroom, at her dinner party, right now, at this very moment in time.
But it's time to put aside the fact I lied to him and he apologized because he believed it. I have bigger matters to attend to. I walk the big, clear, wine glass into the huge Dinning Hall were the Queen will be sat later on for the toast. I walk onto the red velvet covered platform, were her velvet and jewel crested throne stood. Next to it, a small table were her glass is to be set. I carefully take the glass off of the tray and set it on the table.
Just then there was a bell that rung. A warning for all of the servants to make themselves scarce before she arrives. I make my way to the servant balcony that over looks the whole Dining Hall, and wiggle my way past everyone to the railing. I have to stay to make sure my plan succeeds. As soon as that glass is empty I can leave.
The huge wooden doors at the end of the hall open revealing The Queen and all of her guests. They trail behind her like a puppy follows it's mother. She is wearing a huge red gown, with roses lining the very top of the strapless bodice, and the diamond crown she wore a top her head. Her long, dark brown, wavy hair was like a waterfall coming from under her crown, and down her head onto her shoulders.
The poison won't kill her right then and there. It had been diluted so much that the dose won't get into her blood stream all at once. Meaning, she won't go into a sudden death, but a very slow and painless one. Plus this poison is almost always mistaken for water because it has no smell what so ever. It is called Deventaus. It will also give me time to get out of the castle and even the capital. By the time The Queen finishes her party and is alone, I will be long gone. And she will fall to the ground cold and lifeless.
Soon she was sat in her throne overlooking everyone. Just then she stood up with her glass in her right hand and a spoon in the other. She tapped to spoon against the glass, sending a high pitched ringing throughout the whole room, grabbing everyone's attention.
"I would like to have a toast before we begin. To celebrate the victory of my dear kingdom. We fought hard and long with little help from anyone else. But we still rose victorious! To our kingdoms victory!" She shouted and downed the whole glass in one.
I smile, knowing I just won. I can now take my leave. And with that, I silently make my way through the quiet halls. I find the clothes I hide when I changed and put them back on. I take the servant clothes and throw them in the fireplace I first saw when I got into the castle. Burning the evidence. They'll find the servant in the morning after the festivities are over. I make my way out of the castle and into the dark forests once again.
I'll know what happened after I left in the morning when she's on the news dead...
