Burgers, bars, and bronze
I walked around New York for probably a half an hour before I got hungry. I quickly changed directions and walked to a burger store. I whistled to myself as I walked down the sidewalk. The street lamps were turned on and the sea of people had thinned out drastically.
For some reason, I decided to unsheathe my katana. I held it in my gloved hand as I swung it back and forth at my side. I continued to whistle as I looked up at the stars. "Hey Zoe." I saw one of the stars in her constellation glow a bit brighter and I smiled. "I'm really lonely these days, but you're probably even more lonely than me. What's it like up there? Is it nice? Harsh? I don't know." A waved my katana around. "Hey, it's just, if you ever need someone to talk to I'm here for you." Suddenly, my right eye went completely blind. "Ack!" I bent over and covered my eye. What the hell! I looked up and noticed that Zoe's constellation was glowing brighter. Did she do this? How? And why?!
I lifted up my katana and looked at my face in the blade. My left eye was left completely normal, while my right one was now silver instead of sea-green! What the actual hell?! Suddenly, I felt a weight in my pocket. I dove my hand in and felt cloth. I pulled out a red bandana and a price of old paper. On it was one word. Blink.
Huh? I did as the note said, and suddenly I was seeing everything as if I was wearing a scope. Certain areas that had living creatures or were warm were slightly orange, and anything that moves would be highlighted. I lifted up my sword again and looked at my eye. Now it was completely black. No white. Nothing.
Out of shock I blinked, and the world went back to normal. I assumed that my eye was back to silver, so I wrapped the bandana around the right side of my head to cover it.
After that I walked around for about ten minutes until I saw the burger store come into view. I lazily jogged over to it, and walked inside with a scowl on my face. I walked over to the bar and sat down on the leather high chair. A lady with a lip piercing came up to me. "Hi there. I'm Laura, what can I get for ya?" I blinked, then blinked again. "I'll have number six." She nodded then walked off. I put my katana down on the bar beside me and sighed as I rested my forearms on the bar as well. I let my head droop.
I heard the little bell above the door jingle. I didn't bother to look up, but I almost did when I heard a familiar voice. "Jasoooon I'm hungry." Leo. I remember he was one of the ones to ignore me. He didn't taunt or harass, he just ignored. I felt myself fill with anger. How dare he sound so care free and happy when he treated me like that?! Wait- did he just say Jason? Oh shit. I quickly ducked my head down, and glared at the countertop. I heard Leo talk again. "Can we get number six Jason? Plea- oh my Gods! Jason look over there!" I growled as I felt two unwanted pairs of eyes on my back. I picked at my nails, and silently prayed that they would leave me alone. What if they recognized me? Would they just ignore me? Surely news of my death had gotten around. I mean, they probably saw my cold dead body hanging at some point, right?
I was snapped out of my thoughts when I felt a tap on my shoulder. I tended and lowly growled. "Hey mister, is that a real katana?" Asked Leo. I visibly relaxed. All he wanted to know about was my katana. Phew. I nodded. "Yes it is." I silently thanked Hades for making my voice deeper. Leo laughed. "That's awesome! Do you know how to use it? How long have you had it for? Are you a ninja?" I snorted at his last question. "Yes. A long time and kind of." His mouth opened. "Wow.." I nodded. I noticed him staring at it weirdly. I was confused for a moment until I realized it was giving off a slight bronze glow. I blinked, and shifted my bandana without him noticing. When I looked at it with my eye I realized that it was giving off the same glow that celestial bronze did. That's why he was looking at it oddly!
The waitress came back and I blinked as I quickly repositioned my bandana. I nodded to her. "Thanks." She smiled at me, and walked away. I saw Leo's hand inch towards the blade, and I quickly grabbed the hilt and set it on my other side. He didn't move. He just stood there, and eventually I got fed up. I got out of my seat abruptly, and shoved my plate towards him. I slapped a few bills into the countertop. "Here. I don't want it." I sheathed my sword and walked out of the store. Scowling of course.
That was close.
Too close.
