Chapter 5- Attempt and Meeting with a ninja

Reimu and the others started preparing themselves to try and see if they could somehow transport themselves back to Gensokyo.

"U-Um Reimu-san..." Sanae spoke up.

"Hmm?"

"I was wondering if you could let me help, I don't know if my shrine maiden magic is enough but I've crossed the barrier before. That should count for something right?" Sanae couldn't help but feel like she needed to do something. Even if only a little the feeling just kept growing. Reimu thought for a minute closing her eyes.

"That is true..." She mumbled. She glanced slightly at Sanae to see her with a puppy dog face. The big, watery eyes, the pouty lip did it's job.

"...Ok fine just stop with that face." Reimu said sighing.

All of the girls gathered around outside in front of the shrine; Reimu, Sanae, and Patchouli formed a triangle closing their eyes in concentration. They started glowing a red, green, and purple aura as they manifested their magic. A magic circle formed on the ground as a link formed in between the three. Patchouli mumbled something is a strange language, it sounded really close to Latin. Sanae in the meanwhile held her two fingers near her face, moving her gohei in the shape of a pentagram. Reimu shined the brightest as she manifested most of her barrier own magic. She held out her right palm making her left arm holding her purification rod cross over.

"Spell card: Boundary Expanding Barrier!" She called upon one of her spell cards. The combined magic of Patchouli and Sanae seemed to give her a boost. A spark formed in the middle of their circle. A mini ball of light started to form growing bigger, and bigger.

"Ohhh I think it's working!" Marisa declared excitingly.

However Marisa was proven wrong when a giant spark exploded in the middle causing all of them to be blown back due to the force. It left a big scorch mark in front of the shrine. Reimu looked in disbelief and that disbelief turned into frustration.

"Aw damn it!" Reimu hit her purification rod on the ground.
"I thought it would work!"

"Maybe there's some sort of interference?" Sanae suggested.

"But it's the great Hakurei barrier, and my shrine is supposed to be the gateway to Gensokyo!" Reimu argued now really stumped on what to do, what to think.

"This is proof that the barrier is beginning to become messed up da ze." Marisa commented placing her palm in her forehead.

"It's like that theory of different dimensions I read about..." Patchouli mumbled.

All the girls retreated back into the shrine feeling defeated.
"So I'm guessing the attempt failed?" Remilia asked, she stayed indoors to avoid the harsh sunlight. All the other girls hummed in agreement.

"So we're stuck here now?" Alice asked.

"Apparently..." Youmu said inwardly worrying about how Yuyuko and the Netherworld were dealing with her absence.

"Now now come on, it was our first attempt after all. Let's just make the most of our situation." Sanae said trying to cheer the girls up.

"How?" Remilia asked.

"Um adaptation?"

"Adaptation?" The girls repeated in confusion.

"I came from the outside world so I get the basic idea. But we need to adapt to this new environment. Like this..." She pulled out a stack of yen dollars. Reimu's eyes suddenly twinkled at the amount in her hand.

"This money can be used for groceries and anything else we need to buy. Maybe some new clothing to blend in as well..." She trailed off looking at all of the girls.

"How'd you get that much money anyway da ze?" Marisa asked eyeing her suspiciously.

"I, uh, kind of borrowed my shrine's donation." Sanae said a little, no a lot of guilt in her tone.

"Kind of like how Marisa 'borrows' my books?" Patchouli said putting the air quotes on the word "borrowed." This made Sanae even more ashamed while Marisa looked a little offended.

"Hey I at least return them da ze!" She argued.

"Only when I or Reimu have to force you." Patchouli argued back with no emotion.

"Speaking of, are you going to return these to her?" Reimu opened up a spare closet full of books that Patchouli never noticed went missing. Marisa panicked when she saw Patchouli's face become a little more menacing.

"Hey guys I've been meaning to ask.." Alice spoke up catching everyone's attention.
"Where's Aya?" Everyone paused to realize the reporter tengu was missing.

"Crap da ze..."
-----------------------------------

Meanwhile Aya was flying happily observing the world below from the zoom in on her camera lens. How people didn't notice her even she had no idea. She then noticed some ruckus down below with some people gathered around an unconscious human.

"Hmm..." Aya hummed. She dove down to get a better look at the commotion. It looked like a guy wearing armor with a bike knocked down on the ground.

"What happened here?" She mumbled looking upon the human.
'Who knew humans were this fragile.'

"Somebody call 119! Mumen rider's been beaten down!"

"Mumen rider? Interesting name for a human." Aya being the ever curious reporter she is decided to confront the man.

"Uh, who's this Mumen Rider?" She asked.

"Ehhh?! Why he's the hero knocked down there by some terrorists! And he needs help! How can you not know...Erm who are you?" The man asked now noticing Aya's tengu like appearance.

'Ehhh hero? Didn't that guy mention something about heroes? I have to ask later. And did he say terrorists? What are those I wonder man this is gold!' Aya thought grinning widely.

"Eh, I'll take him." She announced. She gathered Mumen Rider like he was lightweight and took to the skies at a fast speed.

"Who was that just now?" The man blinked in shock.
------------------------------

Luckily Aya found the hospital in no time and she was off again. She landed upon a thicket just beyond the city in search of those 'terrorists' as that man called them. She searched with the zoom on her camera until her ears picked up a sound that sounded a lot like fighting. She grinned and zoomed towards the sound. She hid behind a big tree watching some guy or girl she couldn't tell fighting these other humans. She assumed the bald guys dressed in black were the terrorists considering their appearance. What really caught her attention was the figure fighting them. They flashed at a fast speed much like her own, that Aya was having a hard time getting a good shot.

'Man if I had this in the BanBanMaru paper people would read it like a gold mine.'

The figure finally stopped looking at their handiwork. Aya took the time to get their appearance. Jet black hair in a top knot, black spandex complemented by silver armor, a purple scarf, purple marks under their eyes, and finally a katana blade.
'They look like...hm what was it again. Aha! A ninja!' She thought in a happy realization. She got a few shots of the figure on her camera grinning like the stalkerish reporter she was.

The figure on the other hand sensed something was watching him. He turned towards Aya's direction taking out a shuriken for good measure. Aya noticed as well.

'I have a feeling he's going to throw that at me.' She thought sweating. Her prediction came true as the shuriken came fast. She dodged quickly flying up near the top of the trees into view. The figure looked up a little shocked, not only by Aya's appearance but also how fast she dodged that.

"Ayaya that was close. It's dangerous to play with knives you know!" She called down to the shocked ninja.

The ninja recovered from their shock and only glared up at Aya.
"I wasn't playing." They said in a deep voice.

'Oh so he's male.' Aya thought landing in the clearing.

"Ne ne are you a real ninja?" She asked with a sparkle evident in her eyes. The man raised a brow, a little weirded out by her.

"Uh, yeah. Anyway who are you and why are you here?" The male asked just wanting to finish this idle conversation. Aya grinned as she saluted with her camera.

"Shameimaru Aya, I'm Gensokyo's number one reporter!"

The male blinked as he took in her appearance and introduction.
'She looks like a tengu, and what the hell is Gensokyo?' He thought. He heard his cellphone ring making him sigh.

"Hello?" He answered completely ignoring Aya, who was taking pictures of the bodies. He heard the voice of his boss, the one who sent him to take care of these bald headed terrorists.

"Yeah? Yeah I took care of them, it was pretty messy though." He trailed off as he stared in shock. What was so shocking? The body of the leader of the terrorists was missing.
'Shit where did he go?!' The male thought in shock.

"Tch that fucker must've escaped." The male growled hanging up his call.

"Oh? Oh yeah there's one body missing!" Aya just now noticed.

"Ok no offense, but go play somewhere else, I have a job to do." The male said giving one nasty grin that made Aya shiver. The male ninja sped off in a direction displaying his fast speed.

"Whoa! Wait up Mr. Ninja!" Aya sped after him, although her speed was way more developed than the ninja's. She passed him in a breeze leaving the male a little dumbfounded.
'Did she just pass me?!' He thought. He grit his teeth his brain then ordering his body to move faster.
----------------------------------

"I don't see why I have to be the one to search for Aya..." Youmu mumbled to herself while she walked in the thicket. Apparently she was forced to search for Aya. Youmu walked in the forest eyes glancing in different directions. Suddenly she felt a presence, no two of them, to get it felt a lot like...
'Humans.' She thought.

She ran quickly through the clearing until she spotted two figures. One that looked very familiar.

'Is that that Saitama guy?' Youmu thought watching Saitama fight another bald guy. She stayed on the sidelines watching the fight unfold until Saitama broke the other man's suit. Youmu cringed in disgust and averted her eyes to avoid the sight of a naked man.
'How unsightly.' She thought.

Another presence alerted her senses and she knew this one all too well. In a blur she saw Aya land in the clearing creating a giant wind.

"Wow who would've thought following Mr. Ninja's direction would lead me here!" She exclaimed her head snapping in different directions.

"Oh? Aren't you a part of that group? What was your name...Maya?" Saitama asked thinking of a name on the spot.

"No it's Aya A-Y-A!" Aya complained emphasizing the syllables.

"I was only one letter off."

"Oi Aya!" Youmu cut in the conversation.

"Youmu?! Why are you here?" Aya asked while Saitama just blinked.

"I was forced to find you by Reimu. We need you at the Hakurei shrine in case the border spell works. We also can't have you just fly around randomly in a strange world." Youmu explained. Aya looked like a scolded puppy realizing her words held truth.

"Where did that guy go?" The three heard a new voice, and the male ninja that appeared earlier landed in the clearing.

"If you're talking about the Hammerhead boss, he just ran that way butt naked." Saitama said while Youmu grimaced at the image she had witnessed earlier.
Suddenly something flashed by her. She grabbed her katana prepping herself. She unsheathed it in a flash reflecting a metal object making it stick into a nearby tree.

'Is that a ninja weapon?' Youmu thought.

Another flash and suddenly Saitama was gripping the katana held by the ninja male.
"Hey what's up with you?" Saitama asked.

Aya got pictures on her camera but her mouth formed into a frown.
"Hey what's with the hostile move?" She asked. The ninja male turned to glare at her.

"Isn't it obvious that he's one of the terrorists?"

"He is?" Aya said naively, question marks appearing all around her. Youmu sighed, "He's not Aya, you've seen what he does before."

"Oh yeah."

"Wait no, don't you recognize me? The hero for fun? Defeating all of the big bad monsters out there?!" Saitama strangely sounded panicked which caused the girls to look at him strangely.
"Never heard of you." The remark made Saitama look a little depressed if Youmu and Aya could call it that.
All they ever saw was a composed, weirdly emotionless man do of course it was strange to see him panicked.

"And anyway you saw through my attack so I can't let you off that easy." Youmu got chills at the look on the male ninja's face. She could tell he was getting serious. The ninja then phased away and now was buzzing around the three.

"Can't see me can you? Can't keep up with this speed." He appeared next to the bald headed hero who just turned his head.
"Hey can we end this so we can go?" He asked. The ninja jumped back in surprise. He didn't think this weird looking guy would see his speed so easily.
Aya on the other hand had a playful grin on her face as the wings on her back ruffled lightly. She zoomed past landing in front of the ninja, who once again became dumbfounded.

"Hey what do you think of my speed?" She asked trying to sound smug.

'This little..?!' The ninja jumped in the air. He spun and swung his leg down.

"Wind Blade Kick!" His leg was aimed towards Saitama of course, but Aya was in the way.

"Uh oh!" Aya zoomed out of the way as Saitama prepared a punch. However due to the angle his fist connected with the man's most sensitive area. Youmu cringed as she remembered what she was told about the male area. She imagined it must have hurt.

"Ohhh!" Aya exclaimed taking pictures.  The ninja just squirmed on the ground in intense pain.

"Geez man I'm sorry I didn't think I would end up punching there." Saitama said monotonously.

"I think this is a suitable punishment." Youmu mumbled quietly.

The male ninja got up shakily clenching his thighs as if to alleviate the pain. He pointed a shaky finger, his whole body trembling.

"M-My name is Speed O'Sound Sonic."

'His name is quite...redundant.' Youmu thought.
"I was born and raised in a ninja village where I trained harshly in speed. You what's your name?" Sonic asked his body still trembling.

"Saitama."

"And you two?" He asked.

Both of them blinked wondering why he wanted to know their names.
"I told you I'm Shameimaru Aya!"

"Konpaku Youmu." Youmu said nodding her head.

"Saitama you had better prepare yourself for the next time we meet! And you!" Sonic then pointed to Aya.

"Consider us rivals!" He declared before speeding off.

"Awww I wanted to ask him more questions." Aya said a little disheartened.

"I think he would've passed out." Saitama commented.

'Wait did he say Aya and Saitama were his rivals?' Youmu thought blinking.

After the strange encounter with the ninja named Sonic, all three of them decided to head back to City Z.

A/N: The reason Aya uses They is because she  doesn't know whether Sonic was a boy or a girl until she figured it out.
