Chapter 14

TW: SA (non-consensual sexual contact)

Chaeyoung knew Jungkook was watching her while she was dancing, and while this guy who was dancing with her seemed fun, she briefly hoped that Jungkook would actually leave his seat and join in the fun. What was he doing sitting there, drinking and watching? She doubted that was his way to have fun in the club like that.

Jennie had fed Chaeyoung with the knowledge she gained from her boyfriend, Taehyung, that Jungkook was an introvert and that was probably one of the reasons why he was at the bar instead of dancing with her. But Jennie also mentioned to her that Jungkook knew how to have fun when he was with his people.

Chaeyoung turned her back on him, laughing and focusing on the man dancing with her, trying to get rid of the realization that she was not one of his people and that was why he chose to sit and talk to another woman instead of dancing with her.

Her movement stopped when she felt the hands on her waist slowly crawl downward, and Chaeyoung immediately pushed the man's hands off her.

The man's eyebrows shot up with a smirk tugging at his lips. "What's wrong, babe?"

The smile that she had from earlier completely vanished as she stepped back while the man was slowly moving toward her, his hands trying to hold her. "I— I'm thirsty, I'm gonna—" She gasped when the man grabbed her waist and pulled her toward him in a jerk. She pushed his chest roughly. "Don't touch me."

The man laughed boisterously. "Come on, loosen up."

Chaeyoung quickly stepped backward, her hand in the air, warning him not to come forward before she stumbled, accidentally stepping on someone's foot from behind her. Two strong hands caught her and when she turned her head around, she was horrified to see it was another stranger, smiling down at her creepily.

"Watch where you're going or I'm gonna have to take you with me."

"Don't touch me."

She clawed at the man's hands on her, forcing him to loosen his hold on her. Chaeyoung panicked when she couldn't see any of her friends around her as the two men were blocking her way and closing in on her. While she was trying to find an escape route, facing the huge man who held her earlier, she felt her scream stuck in her throat when a hand grabbed her ass from the back.

She whipped her head quickly, only to see the man she was dancing with earlier cackling before the next second, a quick shadow passed and the man was on the floor holding his jaw.

Chaeyoung gasped and so did everyone else around them before she realized that Jungkook was standing right in front of her, his back facing her as he looked down at the man on the floor.

"What the fuck?!" The man gritted his teeth as he rubbed his jaw.

The crowd cleared at the same time the man took a pocket knife, aiming at Jungkook from where he was lying on the floor. He tried to get up from the floor but Jungkook was quick to step onto his wrist, causing him to let out a yelp of pain as the knife pathetically slipped off his hold.

"How would you like to get paralyzed?" Jungkook asked, seething as he put more weight onto his foot. "Slowly? Quickly? Make a smart choice."

"Son of a— bitch!" the man yelled.

"When I asked," Jungkook punched him in the mouth. "You answer the damn question." He punched the man again. "And that's for disrespecting my mother."

The man tried to fling his free arm toward Jungkook but it was to no avail. "Help!" he yelled.

"Three mistakes." Jungkook stood up again, but his foot stayed.

"Mistake number one, you touched her without her consent." He lifted his foot, and the man tried to get away but Jungkook quickly stomped hard on the man's hand with his heel.

"Mistake number two, you ignored her no's." He gave another stomp on the man's hand, kicking his other free hand.

"Mistake number three, you fucking touched someone's fiancée." He kicked the man's gut so hard the latter was gasping for air. "My fiancée." He stomped on the man's limp hand one more time. "You try it one more time, I'll make sure that it won't only be your hands that you will lose."

Chaeyoung was shaking when she saw the man yelling and coughing blood. Jimin and Taehyung came rushing past the crowd and pulled Jungkook off the man.

"Jungkook, enough!" Jimin put an arm around Jungkook and held him when he tried to lunge at the man again. "What the fuck. You don't wanna kill a man."

Taehyung pushed Jungkook's chest with one hand and pointed a finger to the exit. "Leave. Now. That's enough."

Jungkook ignored his friends, his eyes only focused on the man on the floor who was breathing hard, staring back at Jungkook, spitting the blood in his mouth to the side. When the man tried to get up again and Jungkook started to push Jimin off him before slapping Taehyung's hand away, Taehyung blocked Jungkook once again with one hand pushing Jungkook's shoulder. "I said, leave."

Taehyung then turned to her, signaled her to take her fiancé away, and Chaeyoung quickly pulled Jungkook's arm, one of her hands tried to hold his. "Jungkook..."

She felt his fist tightening when she tried to pull him away from the crowd. When he finally turned to her, his eyes were shaking and his breathing was fast. She'd never seen him that angry before. "Let's go," she quietly said.

He didn't seem like he'd let it go that easily, but slowly, his feet began to move. He grabbed her hand tight and pulled her, quickly leading her toward the exit of the club. Before they could get out of the club. Chaeyoung caught a glimpse of a shadow from behind them and her eyes widened in shock when she saw something shining from the side of her eye.

"Jungkook!" she screamed, and he immediately turned around, pushing her away from him.

The man who was stomped on by him earlier had his knife with him, attempting to stab Jungkook. Jungkook swiftly grabbed the knife with his hand, and Chaeyoung's heart dropped at the blood dripping down Jungkook's hand. She turned around, trying to search for Jungkook's friends but a few men, whom she assumed were the friends of the perverted man, had Jimin and Taehyung occupied.

Jungkook managed to kick the man who tried to stab him away from him, but another man came and punched Jungkook square in the face. The same man who had caught her when she tried to get away from her dance partner who groped her. Jungkook fell to the floor and Chaeyoung's gut dropped when the man with the knife came back.

Chaeyoung grabbed the nearest stool and swung it at the man, enough to stall him and get Jungkook time to get back up. Jungkook got up in time before he started throwing punches to the man who'd punched him. When the man was weakened on the floor, Jungkook changed his target to the man who tried to stab him. He managed to disarm the guy, and probably broke the already limped arm. The knife, unfortunately, slid toward the other man who got punched to the core by Jungkook, and he grabbed it.

She panicked and was about to grab anything she could use to throw at the man when Jimin came beating the man's head with a beer bottle. Before the man could do anything, a police siren was heard and everyone scrambled. Chaeyoung saw Taehyung running taking Jimin with him with Jennie already on his side, the two men Jungkook had fought disappeared in an instant and Chaeyoung quickly pulled Jungkook toward the backdoor where, miraculously, a cab was just around.

Chaeyoung wasted no time as she dragged Jungkook into the cab, almost yelling the address of her home to the driver, her hand shaking as she felt his blood between their linked hands.

*

Jungkook stared at Chaeyoung who had been silent the whole time during their ride back to her home. His hands itched to hold her when he noticed the way her hand was slightly shaking on her lap. Jungkook took off his jacket instead and placed it onto her lap, covering her from the cold and possible unwanted attention from the cab driver, apologizing to her in his head for smearing his blood on her skin.

When they arrived at her place, Jungkook followed her silently as she pressed the passcode to her house, her other hand holding his jacket instead of wearing it. She pointed at the stool by her kitchen counter as she went to the sink, washing her hands before opening the cabinet. Jungkook did nothing but stand by the counter, watching her back before he heard a low mutter that sounded flat and so cold.

"Sit down, Mr. Jeon."

Hearing how she'd addressed him as 'Mr. Jeon' again and not 'Jungkook', he sighed out loud, but did as told. Chaeyoung went from one cabinet to another, rummaging through the drawers, looking for what he assumed to be the first-aid kit. Her moves were frantic and he could clearly hear her shaky breath. When she finally found it, the kit seemed to slip from her hand onto the countertop, causing Chaeyoung to curse.

"Fuck!" she yelled and gritted her teeth.

"I can handle this," Jungkook said calmly. "Let me do it myself."

"Shut the hell up."

He looked at her with a frown, confusion settled in at her anger. "What's wrong with you?"

She replied to him with nothing, her fingers were still shaking as she looked through the kit. She seemed distracted, like she had no idea what she needed either. Her face red as she bit her lower lip, veins popping at her temples.

"Chaeyoung."

"Just shut the fuck up, Jungkook."

He blew hot air through his nose. "Why the fuck are you angry?"

"You shouldn't have done that," she muttered, biting her bottom lip again. "You didn't have to do that, you know."

"Do what?" he asked, gritting his teeth. "I didn't have to do what, Chaeyoung?" She said nothing but he knew exactly what she was referring to. "What, did you expect me to just fucking watch you get harassed?"

Her voice shook when she replied to him. "No."

"You expect me to do nothing, just sit still and when he fucking groped my fiancée?"

"No!"

"Then what the fuck is it that I didn't have to do, Chaeyoung?!"

Chaeyoung swallowed before she exhaled shakily. "He paid the price, all right. You didn't have to go further than that."

Jungkook scoffed, the whole scene replayed in his mind, activating his rage once again. "No, he fucking didn't. He hasn't lost his hand yet."

"Jungkook—"

"You're my fiancée, Chaeyoung," he looked her straight in the eyes, trying to make his point across. "Whether you like it or not, you're still my fiancée. And just because we don't enjoy each other's company you'd think I'd let another man touch you that way, then you're completely wrong."

Only silence filled the whole space for long moments before she turned her back on him and quietly said, "You should've stopped after you punched him..."

Jungkook groaned out loud, angry at her for even having the thought of doing good for that piece of shit after what he'd done to her. For what he did to Chaeyoung, Jungkook didn't think he deserved another breath.

"What lesson would he learn from that? Breaking his bone isn't even fucking enough, if you ask me."

"He got a knife!" Chaeyoung yelled in frustration, turning back around to face him. "He got a fucking knife, Jungkook! And you— you could've died." Her voice breaking at the last word. Her eyes began to fill with water and just when one tear threatened to drop, Chaeyoung turned her head away for a moment, wiping her eye swiftly before she approached him and began tending to his injury.

Chaeyoung silently cleaned his wound, unwilling to look into his eyes even once as she started to wrap his hand with bandages. Jungkook cooperated silently the whole time as she put a bandaid at the top of his brow and another at his jaw while his gaze stayed on her, his ears listening to her shaky breath against his controlled one. When she was done, Jungkook watched as Chaeyoung went back around the kitchen counter, keeping the first aid kit back to its place and stayed motionless after she washed her hands at the sink.

Jungkook sat still, frowning as the last thing she said to him lingered in his head. The expression on her face when she said those words stuck to his brain. He was certain that it was merely fear for the gory things she witnessed. But the more he thought of it, the more he tried to replay it, the more he watched the frown on her face as she tended to his wounds, the clearer it became to him.

Fear and worry were so evident on her face.

Slowly, Jungkook got up from his seat and approached her, his heart grew heavier the closer he was to her. Seeing the slight shake of her shoulders as her head hung low, Jungkook gently placed his uninjured hand on her shoulder and squeezed.

*

Chaeyoung froze when she felt a hand on her shoulder but soon relaxed and relented when he pulled her to turn around. She sighed with her eyes downcast, biting her lip hard when they began to tremble the moment he mentioned her name.

"Chaeyoung..." he said, in almost a whisper, bringing his bandaged hand upward to lift her chin, and she finally looked into his eyes.

Chaeyoung's forehead wrinkled as she forced herself to think of other things, just whatever, as long as she could distract herself from the images that appeared in her mind earlier. But no matter how hard she tried, the images of Jungkook lying on the floor, lifeless as his blood flooded the floor around him if he had been stabbed came circling her mind.

Jungkook's gaze was deep. "I'm fine."

Her vision began to blur as the tears welled in her eyes once again. She shook her head, biting her trembling lip harder. "You're not."

He shook his head and cupped her face with both his hands. "I am fine. I promise I am."

Just like that, her tears fell. Her body began to shake as she tried to swallow her cries and Jungkook immediately pulled her into him, wrapping his arms around her. Chaeyoung's hands came up his shoulders, her fingers gripping him tightly as she pressed her face into his shoulder.

Chaeyoung didn't know how long it took her to finally calm down, crying into his shoulder as he gently rubbed her back, the fingers of his injured hand caressing the back of her head. But she knew that the cursed image of Jungkook being badly injured to the point of being lifeless repeatedly invaded her mind, and every time it happened, she pulled him tighter, pressed her face into his shoulder even more as she continued to sob.

When Chaeyoung pulled back from him slowly, Jungkook searched for her eyes and she lifted her gaze at him.

"Are you okay?" he asked.

Chaeyoung knitted her brows. "Are you serious?"

"I'm serious. Are you okay?"

Chaeyoung stepped back from him. "I'm not the one who got beaten up and has a sliced hand. Are you okay?"

At that response, Jungkook's small smile appeared on his face. "I said I'm fine," he said and feigned an annoyed expression at her. "I didn't get beaten up, alright? Get your facts right. I did the beating. He's weak, that's why he used a weapon against me."

"Maybe you forgot about the other guy who punched you in your face."

"I let him have it. I'm generous that way," he shrugged and they both smiled before a chuckle freely rolled out of her. Jungkook lifted a brow. Gently, he asked, "You okay?"

Chaeyoung knew what he was asking about. She could still feel it where she was touched without her consent. If she could she would scrape away that part of her because it felt disgusting. She wanted to erase that part of her life. But it happened and now that she thought of it, she silently agreed that Jungkook was right. What Jungkook did to him wasn't enough. She took a deep breath with her eyes closed, opened them and nodded her head slowly.

"Can I ask you a favor?" he asked after a moment. "Chaeyoung, I don't care where or how you want to enjoy your life. It's your life. But I'm your fiancé. I think I deserve to at least know the whereabouts of my fiancée. I'm not asking you to notify me everywhere you're going, but ..."

Jungkook then nonchalantly lifted his bandaged hand and wiped the tear stain on her cheek with it.

"If you wanna go to that kind of place, the first to know should be me and you shouldn't have any complaints if I decide to tag along. Can you give me that?"

Chaeyoung usually didn't like having people being nosy about her personal life, wanting to know her every move. But she understood what Jungkook was trying to do and he certainly wasn't trying to poke his nose into her business and control her. Especially after what happened.

Unlike any other time, Chaeyoung nodded her head without any hesitation. His eyes were a gentle gaze when a soft smile pulled at his lips. Chaeyoung felt her heart flutter and for the first time, she accepted it for what it was.
