Review: 🌟🌟🌟☆☆
Many people who have read the book might think that this is a low review. Coz i know a pot of people on booktok say that its a ten out of ten. And its not coz this story is gay that made me come to this decision. Its Achilles. I liked him at first, a good guy, kind but i always thought that there was something suspicious about him. Like he did good with bad intentions. Though he didnt actually do anything with malice, it just seemed like it. Also, id love to give the author a pat on the back for her AMAZING writing. It was so beautiful and i loved it! The descriptions were a bit lacking, as in i found it hard to remember anyones distinct features apart from the main couple and Thesias. Nevertheless, the descriptions of emotion, feelings and doubt were clearly elaborated to make me FEEL in that way.
I liked Protroclus coz hes a very relatable character (in some ways), he also has good reasons behind his decisions. Hes never rash. except that one time............... we wont talk about that.
Now, id like to address the elephant in the room... did i cry? No. Im sorry. Dont kill me. Btw, id like to point out that i didnt actually READ the book, i listened to the audiobook on youtube which got cut down like a million times. Did that make any difference? No. I still wouldnt have cried.
I did find the ending to be poetically and beautiful written and it made close the book on a weird note. Dont get me wrong, i thought it was beautiful how his soul reunited with his love. BUT i dont even think theyre in love in the first place.
Achilles and protroclus' relationship seems a bit wonky... as in, they say (subtly) i love you, and kiss and stuff but, i dont feel like there was any romance in it. There was no external factors trying to tarnish their relationship (unless u count Thesies, she didnt even DO anything so) also they cheated on each other a bit too much! No, not that many. But still, WHYD U FORGIVE HIM?! AND WHYD U CHEAT AND NOT TELL HIM?!
Thats literally the only rwason why i couldnt believe that they were in love. Also i think coz of the lack of dialogues in this book caused it to make me think that they dont have a connection. Sure, they sleep together every night and had endless conversations during those 18 ish years, it makes sense. Maybe they did talk a lot abt their slash internal problems BUT we dont get to see that and ig its a bit disappointing.
And do i feel bad for achilles? Not really. He ended up being arrogant in the end (good chracter developement tho) and the onky way he reciprocated that was by.... (urgh spoilers... if u know. U know.) And i didnt like it at all. I hate his child as well! Bloody arsehole.
Anyway, thats all i have to say on this book. There would be a lot more if u could read it with me and we can discuss spoilers and shit.
Okay bye bye.
