For her, its hard to get by with food but even harder for her boyfriend, Aspen, whos a Six. They love each other but it was never acceptable to marry down a caste. When America got the letter to enter The Selection where 35 girls compete for Prince Maxons heart, she doesnt want to go. The only person she has eyes for are Aspens. He tells her to do it.

Honestly, a 2.5 out of 5 for me. The reason, coz it was so boring but then kept u reading at the same time. The book was beautifully written but i saw no big BANG that would boost me to keep reading. There were some small points where it got interesting, like how Americas goal changed half way through. And who her heart lies with. Honestly, chp 20 was where all the excitement begins. Before that, it was only good. Im not saying it was super bad. Thats not my intention, it was just boring.

America, as a protagonist, has a lot of judgement and reasons for her actions. But she wasnt relatable to me, someone whos never had her heart broken coz i didnt have giant expectations of guys i liked. Which i honestly hated about her. She was so stupidly fucking naive. Like, u knew this guy for 2 years and it took him one night to break up with u. But u wanna marry him?! Thats so stupid. But ig she did learn from hee mistakes and didnt jump right on maxons lap.

Maxon is the sweetest. I love so many scenes he had with America. Of course i shipped them together. And theres not many things i dont like abt him. Maybe his naiety as well but idk.

Then theres Marlee. I dont trust this bitch. I know shes nice and Americas friend but wtf is wrong with her? I had a sense that by the end of the book something interesting might happen. But nope! Marlee didnt end up betraying America, whered u get that idea from?

Anyway. The biggest problem i had was with the Selection itself.

No competition. No tasks. No fights. Just sit still and look pretty. WTF?! I swear, i had good expectations from this. When theres a contest to gain the princes heart, you DO this! Not just wait till the prince likes u or not. Thats what it was. I had no idea why maxon threw away so many girls on the first day! Hes such a prick like that. Doesnt he WANT a girl wholl love him and would do anything for him? Then test them! God sake! So, yeah, it wasnt very exciting when all the girls did was sit, eat, had cameras following them around, did interviews on TV and had a date or two with the prince and bam! Out of sight for America to take the throne.

We all know america is gonna win so why bother writing 4 damn books about this!

At least make us want someone else to win! Like that girl who came with Marlee and America. She was good. But she got kicked out on the first day! Also, the fact that America seems to believe that shell never win and shed probably get kicked out even though shes hot as hell and she acts like she doesnt know it. Like wtf? It didnt make ME believe it. Shes like that pretty girl who NEVER thinks at ANY point that shes pretty!

The book itself teaches girls that this is what society wants from you. You wanna be famous then get rid of ur confidence and just be pretty. Whcih is true. The Selection was all about that. The fact that America doesnt think thats not a good idea (unless it was a sentence or paragraph idk) then it wasnt good enough. She should know that the way these people made her go through hair and makeup every day and to dress beautifully so she can gain the approval of a man is fuckin unfeminist. Its also sexist in a way.

Also, at the end, it teaches us just to be yourself. Yeah, lets just use a girl with red hair and a pretty face to say that to someone whos insecure about their body weight. Its not a good impression, dont u think?

Anyway, read it if you want, im not saying its complete trash. Its just trash that u wont care abt. Literally after reading, i didnt bother abt writing this review. Sooo it wont kill u to read it for the sake of reading it.
