So this is book 2 of Storm and Silence.
Genre: Romance (let me clearify SMUTTY romance), adventure and action.
Author: RobThier
Chapters: 34
Review: 🌟🌟☆☆☆
Let me explain... remember how excited and enthusiastic i was abt the first book? Well, throw that out the window. Albeit, i LOVE the first book. Id even buy it! However, i dont like the 2nd book at all. In fact, if a book is so good, and u have a solid fanbase or watever, then theres no need to write a sequel. Ive noticed that books with series are just bad? There were a lot of problems with this book and like to make a comparison with the 1st book.
1- plot #1st book
The plot was very unique. It spun around from Lillys sisters secret romance, to lillys work, to the main villian and that secret file Ambrose is after. I enjoyed this book because of its emphasis on feminism and sufferagtist at that time. The chemistry between lilly and ambrose was great! The way he acts sexist just to get a humorous reaction out of her made me think that Ambrose knows her SO well! Lilly was strong and firm, sure she was dumb when it came to stand down in a battle but thats the thing.., she doesnt! Ambrose onky wants to prptect her even though it was bland and plain, nobody but us could see through it!
2nd book- Plot
The plot lacked so much... maybe it was because the book was shorter, i found that there was no proper end to this book.
It had a lot of plot holes and filled the 'slow middle' with a bunch of hot kissing scenes which i also have a problem with. Youll see why in a minute.
Oh, i dont get me started on the whole file shit! That was the whole plot in the 1st book and it went down the bloody drain! The pacific ocean to be more precise... they never even mentioned that it was gone in the beginning of this book and i kept wondering whats gonna happen next! Whats Ambrose gonna do abt the file? Hes gonna do sometjing abt that business trade route! Nope... he wasnt. And i was disappointed. I mean they did mention the file in like the 10th chp. But yeah.
The beginning was good! Until ambrose ruined it... it started going back to the beginning as if everything they had had never happened. Which ok fine. However, there was no developement with their feelings. The book was onky a premise which was: "Lilly and ambrose have reunited and now they have a mission but they have to pretend to be husband and wife to do it." I mena tbh, the premise sounds weird and it was! Seeing how ambrose put the act of a fake marriage was a top priority instead of the actual mission was bizzare! I mean, sure it was because he didnt want to get caught by the villain... yet, that plan failed miserably and made me think wtf was all that for?
I mean, it seems that Ambrose just wanted to kiss lilly all day instead of doing actual work, which doesnt sound like him.
I lost respect for him tbh.
2- Character developement #1st book
Lets start with our MC- Lilly Linton
From the beginning till the end Lilly remained strong and fierce, unwilling to let ambrose get his way and SHE omg! ALWAYS GETS HERS! They way she fooled ambrose when she dressed as a guy to keeping the job he offered her, to smashing! That Yale Park speech abt women empowermemt! Makes me love her more than ambrose! Towards the end she remains strong with her goal to keep her job nomatter what Ambrose said and when that thing at the ship happened, i was surprised that she didnt care abt dying or not. She just wanted peace in the end and i believe she deserved it.
Rikkard Ambrose
Okay... so honestly in the begginning i didnt really like him. He seemed too dumb to fall for lillys diguise (like all the men in the book lol) anyway, i also didnt like how arrogant but he is. So idk... anyway, so from the beginning he went from being angry and rude towards lilly, then understanding somewat grateful for what lilly had done for him. Then, manipulating her then manhandling her! (Which os sometjing i really hate abt him! He did it like 5 times!) Then he tries to get rid of her, hence the manipulation then he becomes lillys protector in someways. In the end, he wanted to protect her because her life was more beneficial than hers! (I love that part)
Not the best for him... but he actually ended up loving her and showing how desperate he was to save her
2# Book 2
Lilly
Soooo, in the beginning she becomes obssessed with finding him.. and well, she loves, you can tell. But when she returns to work her personality from the first book remains the same. So it goes from, wistfulness, desperation to strong and im gonna get my way to oh shit, im so curious abt him to lovey dovey for no reason watsoever to i wanna fuck him to tell me the plan to i wanna protect myself! To strong and in the end... the same as she was before.
Argh! Idk! There was no developemt! Throughput that slow middle, aka the kissing, she kept refusing and declaring how unfeminist it was then wanting him more?! Idk.. i didnt see what reason she had for continuing to kiss him? Why not think that he was forcing you? Or that maybe he likes me? Kinda thought... but there was none until the end. Argh.., like why kiss him?
Ambrose
His is the worst... he doesnt make sense. His morals go down the drain because of his obsession with lilly. He seems too possessive of her lilly, never questions why she does or says the things she does/says to him? They never have a sit down conversation of their feelings to connect us, the readers ajd the chracters, on a deeper level. There was no chemistry.
Ambrose seems too professional abt their fake relationship. Outside he acts like a husband and behind closed doors, he acts like a fucking beast in bed! U know what i mean... lol. Idk if this was the point but i dont see a small crack in to his personality unlike the first book.
3- Overall
Im gonna talk abt the 2nd book now. Why i didnt like it?
There was so many reaosns why. Including their cringy ass conversations.
Ambrose had this stupid reaosn to fuck another girl to make lilly be the 'jealous wife', it doesnt make sense i know. I mean, lillys reaction to this was understandable. I mean if ambrose loved lilly for who she is, he wouldnt have the guts to do that without some sort of consequence. Which he didnt get. She end up getting super mad and beats him, throwing things at him but never admits that she likes him (which was what i assumed she was doing) but sarcastically remarks that she was playing the role he wanted her to okay i.e, the jealous wife.
I physically cringed reading this convo! Especially ambroses responses were so immature!
Then guess what happened? They kiss! No not that... they MADE OUT! like wtf lilly? I thought u were reasonable! But this was an irrational thing they did, they ended up taking this to the bedroom... at the end of this chp... i was like
''They had sex...?" In such a disapproving manner! I was so disappointed but dw, they didnt get so far yet....
Argh! I cant believe lilly out of all people will allow him to get away with something like that! Fuck!
Anyway... u see what i mean.. they no longer had conovs like this, or heartfelt discussions abt each other.. or funny dialogues. This was the onky one i liked but it was still weird.
I do have to admitt that i liked the way it ended was in opposite to how the 1st book ended. But can i just talk abt lilly remained a woman for most of this book and not a man like the 1st one?! I mean, wasnt the point and plot of this story was that she had to sacrifice her identity as a woman to work!
Also, i dont understand why lilly is a feminist. I mean, think abt it, women at that time found being ruled by men normal. Unless, they felt oppressed, ridiculed or objectified with their choices that they decided to go against the norm. And fight for their rights! I mean, its all abt strenght and weaknesses in the eyes of Ambrose and maybe lilly wanted to defy his opnion? I mean, it was true. Men are stringer than women and lilly never proved otherwise. She was never oppressed, just told what to do (and NOT by a man) but her aunt. So really i dont see the reason.
For me, my whole family are sexist. Though they allow me certain things, like school, jobs and stuff. But im not even allowed to go outside by myself unlike lilly (though i do admitt its more of a cultural thing than anything). Anyway, so thats why IM. A feminist! Because im the onky girl in the house that has to do the bloody cleaning, whos expected to get married sooner or later, who probaboy wont be allowed to travel abroad for uni.
So yeah? Lilly doesnt seem to have that backgroud to help me identify her as a feminist in my eyes. Also, the way she represents feminism is also wrong. I dont care if a man told me to do anything for him, ill do it. But if i tell him to do something for me, i expect him to do it. I believe in gender equality and i try to use that in my own family, like making my bros to do the dishes coz i always do it and just because im a girl doesnt mean i should do it all the time!
Lilly on the otherhand, seems to think that no man should have a say abt women and that women are superior in some ways.., i always got thay feeling with her
Anyway, ive concluded thst im not gonna read the rest of rhe series coz i think its not worth the time. Also, i wouldnt buy this 2nd book. Def buy the 1st one! But this would be a waste of your time.
See ya later! Sorry for the typos!
