Prologue:
15th January 1264
I felt my heart slamming against my ribcage, asking if it was allowed to leave my body. My tiny bare feet carry me threw the snow as fast as they can. Every step felt like knifes stabbing the soles of my feet. I felt my jagged breath and the pain that spread threw my entire body, but I kept running. Running from my family, my father. I knew that someday I would return to save the rest but I was just a child and after what I had witnessed, I was useless to the others. "I'll come back for you." I breathed. I didn't know where to go or what to do, except for running until I fell asleep and until my stomach was so empty that I would be unconsciously trying to eat my own tongue. I was six and each time I blinked I saw how the snow melted from the heat of the blood and the dragons fire. There were so many dragons. So beautiful and yet so destructive. They caused me so much pain or rather the men who welded them. They were at fault. Them and the king.
I hated them, all of them.
I felt something hard against my foot and a sharp pain surging threw it, cutting off my breath. I had run against a black rock. In my childish eyes it looked lonely. I removed the snow from it, ignoring the fact that the snow was turning red because of the blood leaking out of my foot. I bedded the egg shaped rock in my arms. The more I looked at it the more 'alive' it looked. Of course I was just a foolish child. But even though I was young I had still witnessed the difference between life and death. I looked at the rock once more and I slowly saw runes engraved into it. They were an ancient language I had learned out of boredom. 'From the curse of fire and flame, a beast of death and harm became. For it was always meant to be slain, so the dragon children began their reign. For it was their deed the beasts to obtain and until today only few have remained .' As I spoke the words out loud I knew what they meant. Dragons and their RIGHTFUL riders. The ones from the prophesies and as I did, I could swear the rock moved.
