an unexpected development in a book, film, television programme, etc.

A plot twist is a literary technique that introduces a radical change in the direction or expected outcome of the plot in a work of fiction. When it happens near the end of a story, it is known as a twist or surprise ending. 

Plot twists are changes in a novel, short story, movie, or TV series that subvert expectations. They don't follow the linear path that may have been suggested by an author at the start of the story. When properly executed, these misdirections genuinely surprise the audience and thereby enhance their engagement.

My personal experience as a reviewer, I have read many books of cliché and deranged plots. There are various books available on each platform having the theme of arrange marriage, forces marriage, age gap and mostly mafia au's. What makes them cliche is the fast pace, unexplained scenes and already a customary plot line.

In my view, an arrange marriage au can also be made unique by following proper writing style, techniques and plot twists. Two is the limit for a other books, while crime/thriller/detective can have upto 5 plot twists with success. There are too many when the twists distract from the development of the character, or when the reader is confused or gives up and tosses the book across the room.

As far as plot makes the story good and appealing, some times it doesn't go as planned. Bad plot twists invalidate everything that has happened in the story so far. They make the story less meaningful. ... have unfolded so that they make more sense. When the twist is revealed, the reader has the feeling that suddenly they understand the story in a more profound way.

However, what ever the case is, for me there must be uniqueness, proper writing techniques, plot twists and good execution of plot in book to make it speaking to readers.
