Anderes: Issues (english)
Imaginary Idol: So you think you're different from everyone else?
My Mind: Did I ever say I was?
I: No, you didn't.
M: So what made you believe I would think something like that?
I: Don't know, doesn't everyone think like that about themselves?
M: No.
I: Wow, that was fast and harsh...
M: Let me finish: Everyone hopes that they're different from others. What do you think why K-Pop is so hyped at the moment?
I: Because our dances, songs and looks are stunning.
M: That's the part to trigger young girls and boys around the world, but no: they want to be different. Mostly from their parents. Maybe it's unconcious, but nonetheless they have this urge to be different from their parents.
I: Oh. Is that what you really think?
M: Yeah. And because no one gets the texts.
I: What do you mean by that?
M: You could sing the biggest shit and international fans wouldn't care because they simply don't know what you're singing about. So it's just about the melody. Or the dance. Or the looks. Probably the looks.
I: Then why are there so many fan fictions with boy x boy pairings?
M: That has nothing to do with what I said just now but anyways: You don't make it difficult to imagine something among the lines of gay love in a korean boy group with all the skin ship you're doing. And maybe little teenage girls write themselves into a story as a member of a couple just to be near their bias. And because they want to be different from their parents.
I: You really are obsessed with that generational conflict, aren't you?
M: I'm not. That's just the thing my degree was about. I asked a few people of my mother's generation whether they had the desire to see two men together or not.
I: You have to consider that those things weren't in the public for long up till now.
M: I know. I'm not stupid, remember? Plus I did do research for my degree. And if they had the desire to see a gay couple there would've been nothing to stop them. But apparently they hadn't. So the question is: Is that just the way of today's youth to draw a line between them and other generations?
I: I don't know. I'm not a woman nor am I a teenager. But getting back to the part where you said that everyone wants to be different from their parents, doesn't that mean that everybody is different from other humans?
M: No, it doesn't mean that stupid shit. It just means that we have raised a generation with pretending-to-be individualists. Because the whole generation in the end is the same.
I: But everybody's life is different, their experiences, gen material and surroundings are different. So how could someone in the same generation possibly be the same as someone else?
M: Did you look at the streets? I don't know how but they fucking do look the same!
I: Because we're in Asia here? Wow, racist.
M: No, because the t-shirt the girl there at the corner with the little coffeeshop wears is exactly the same some other little girl wears down the street.
I: That's just fashion? Why would you possibly judge a whole generation just because of their looks?
M: None of your business.
I: Oh, yeah. Classic one. When I'm about to get to your weak point you snap even though you're in the wrong!
M: I wasn't wrong!
I: Yes, you were! And guess what; I know why you are like this: It's all about your parents, isn't it? You just say you don't think you're different because your parents say that they are different from their parents, so you can't be different from yours in order to be different.
M: Sorry to say that, but that's just a trigger to get people like you hooked to talk to me.
I: People like me? K-Pop Idols?
M: No, people who can't seem to understand that sometimes not knowing anything is better than knowing. That it's better to take the blue pill instead of the red.
I: Huh?
M: Did you never watch The Matrix? What a sad life you had to endure.
I: Don't touch me!
M: I'm sorry.
I: Just watch out okay.
M: Well, then you mustn't touch my hair as well.
I: I can live with that.
M: Stupid fucker.
I: I'm an Idol, not deaf.
M: And I'm a pretend-to-be individualist. Aren't we the perfect couple?
I: What do you imply by that?
M: Oh, nothing that should concern you, honey.
I: Stop messing with me. For starters, you should be honored that I talk to you.
M: Of course, your highness, please forgive me my sassy attitude.
I: I can't until you accept the fact that you're a racist, peasant.
M: Did you just call me "racist" and "peasant" in the same sentence?!
I: I did indeed!
M: I get peasant, but why am I a racist? I told you that it's not because we're in Asia that everyone looks the same!
I: You're a racist because you treat a generation of humans differently than others. Okay, maybe not a racist but a generationist.
M: You're fucking me up.
I: Hey, then at least I suit you well!
M: Please, go hang yourself. It would be a contribution to society.
I: My fans don't think that, y'know? They would be really really angry with you if you persuaded me to kill myself. And by really angry I mean that I don't know if they could contain their bloodlust.
M: Oh yeah. That's another point I wanted to talk to you about.
I: What, the bloodlust of my fans?
M: No. Your illusion of ultimately dedicated fans who would do anything for you.
I: Well, you can't deny that there is that sort of dedicated fan or whatever you may call it.
M: I can't, but on second thought I would call them 'insanely over a phantom obsessed fans'. Or something among those lines.
I: Are you badmouthing my beloved fans or what is this? Because if you are, then you should know that I love all of them very deeply and I won't let you go-
M: Yeah yeah. Shut it, would ya? All that bullshit about I love every single fan of mine is... well, bullshit, obviously.
I: How dare you insult them, my precious fans!
M: Oh heavens, have mercy with me sinner. That sounded so fake, I want to puke. Fact is, you know nothing about them, who you call 'precious' or 'beloved fans'. Those are just a mass to you, no individuals. Only at fanmeets you get a glimpse of all the people who proudly call themselves your fans. On social media they are just the accounts which are subscribed to yours, the comments in the comment's section or the number that liked that one picture of yours. Sure, you are grateful towards them, because they are the reason of your success, but you don't 'love' them or anything. That's simply impossible.
I: Wow. Way to go, girl. I'll tell you something: You understand nothing about me or other idols and how things work in our business.
M: I don't? Then tell me! I'll gladly listen.
I: First of all: My success is something I accomplished. It's based on the actions I took and those taken chances that brought me here. All the effort I put into my career, so that I'll be able to stand on that stage that I am standing on now, those were solely mine and mine alone. I impressed the people along the way, I trained so hard all these years and I managed to push through hell to get here. All what I get now are reactions of people to my achievements. It's the same for all those other idols out there: we took our chances and we surpassed ourselves many times to gain something from it. And it's just disrespectful of you to assume that we have done nothing for it. That everything we have now was some sort of present other people gave to us out of pure sympathy. That is complete bullshit. So don't talk like you have understood anything, because I can assure you: You haven't. And of course I'm grateful to my fans. They made my dreams come true, they made my music heard across the world and there isn't a single thing I know about that I can thank them with for their continious support. And that's why I love them. Of course you wouldn't understand something as complex as a human being's feelings.
M: Okay, shut it right there. That nearly hurt me! You know, even if you don't believe it, I'm a human being as well and therefore I know lots about feelings and such.
I: Well, obviously not enough.
M: Whatever. My biggest problem in this whole farce of you promoting yourself as the perfect moral institution is that you can't see that K-Pop isn't about the music any longer. Sure, you guys made a bunch of amazing songs and dances and I'm sure that's the first thing that gets interested individuals hooked. But the entertainments you have to thank for making you as big as you are today don't really give a damn.
I: How-
M: Let me finish. Be respectful to youngsters so they'll have a reason to respect you, too. Let me phrase it differently: The entertainments give a damn. Not about the music but about the artist they have built up behind it, about the image that artist has, about his personality. They dont't sell music, they sell humans. In the sense that they promote the artist in variety shows where said artist eventually gets to promote their music. In the sense that after a while the music doesn't matter to the fans anymore but the person who gets to promote it. You could call it a 'one-man-religion' or something. One individual, an artist or a group of artists, stands at the front and gets admired by their followers. Who are willing to pay. That's the important part about all this. But I don't have to tell you something that simple, now, do I?
I: Almighty, aren't we? Getting all high about things we just assume. You have no proof, have you? It would astonish me as there is no proof to support such a wild guessed conspiracy theory. Get over it: You simply don't have any knowledge of that topic. It's no shame to accept defeat, you know? Sometimes retreating even is a sign of rationality and strength. And you are rational and strong, I know that now.
M: Thinking of distracting me now, do we? You're really pretentious. Like, I don't even think there is something near your stage of pretentiousness. Just admit it: You aren't your own person anymore. You may have decided to take your chance to become an idol, but you practically sold your soul to the devil. And he is making money off you, no matter how strongly you deny it. Just think about all the merch your fans buy just to feel the tinsiest bit closer to you. Isn't that just pretentious as heck? Taking money from your all too precious fans to sell them some sort of closeness?
I: That's the way I finance myself, honey. This isn't some sort of rainbow farm where we all just live happily on expanses of that gold pot we found at the rainbow's ending. They support me and my music by buying my merch and of course my albums, they make me existing like this possible. Why on earth am I pretentious because of that?
M: Hmm, I don't know... Maybe because of you manipulating your fans to be intrigued by you, so you can sell them stuff? That's what you do as a profession, don't you? Something near a sellsman? And you're even more effective, because you're good-looking and have a wide influence.
I: That influence is something I built up myself, for God's sake! It's not like I studied ad techniques to gain more fans or something! That's so far from what I'm doing, I can't even laugh about you being so convinced of something you made up out of tinsy bitsy information the internet threw at you! Because it's not in the least bit funny! What I try to achieve is art! Music that moves people when they hear it, which makes emotions boil up that they never experienced before! And you deny me my achievements in simply saying that all my intentions behind them were ill and disgusting even though that isn't even the case! You don't know me. So stop slandering me!
M: Well, can you convince me of your good intentions behind your wish to become famous? What was it that made you go trough hell, wasn't that how you phrased it?
I: You know what? I don't care. I don't care what you think or for what reason you think you're of any importance. Because you're not. You're irrelevant. And this is a waste of my time. Just one last thing: If you have family issues or some sort of inferiority complex towards your parents then go, badmouth someone else. Or wait until I'm out of sight, because this is not the way to treat a human, no matter how much you dislike them. And as you said: I don't know you. And now I have no intention to get to know you either. Bye. Have a nice day or whatever, I don't care.
