Chapter 45 - Coffee Shop and Butterfly Kisses

September 30, 2013

*Chloe's POV*

"I'll see you later, babe," Ashton told me as he pecked my lips. It was a Monday, and I was getting ready to head back to school. Ashton was also getting ready to take Kaely to school too.

I got in my car and drove off. I drove towards the college, but took a small detour to a local coffee shop.

I walked in and got my daily coffee. I sat down for just five minutes so I could relax and drink my coffee to get the week started right.

After a minute of sitting in the coffee shop, a guy who seems around my age comes up to me. He sits beside me, and I try to scoot away.

"So are you from around here?"

"Well, I'm in college at UWS," I told him, not wanting to be in the conversation with him. I'm guessing he hadn't noticed my engagement ring. He looked at me, eyeing me up and down. Who does he think he is? If he's looking at me that way and that much, how has he not seen my engagement ring?

"Oh, a college girl, huh?" He smirked.

"Yeah. Also a taken girl," I held up my left hand to him, making sure he saw my engagement ring. His eyes widened. Not in shock, but in realization.. He realized something about me. He acted like he sort of knew me by the way he looked at me then. All he did was walk away after rolling his eyes. Asshole.

I finished my coffee and left. After that awkward encounter and my coffee, I was ready to go off to my college to begin the week. After only a weekend, I had missed Kristen a whole lot. I had lots of this to tell her, but I didn't tell her about the guy in the coffee shop.

------

I arrived home that afternoon to see Ashton playing with Kaely and Dax. I joined them for a little before I had to study.

"Hey baby," Ash smiled.

"Hey Ash.." I pecked his lips.

"Mummy!" Kaely ran to me and hugged me.

"Hey, sweetie, how was school?"

"Good," she smiled and ran off.

"I had this weird encounter this morning at the coffee shop.."

"Yeah?"

"Yeah. This guy came up to me and starred to, like, hit on me.."

"You know I don't like any other guy hitting on you."

"I know. It's just, this guy seemed like he knew me, somehow?"

"Really?"

"Yeah."

"Oh.. I don't know. If he would know you, he'd know that you're engaged."

"That's true. Never mind, I guess.." I brushed it off, then grabbed my backpack.

------

The next morning, I walked into the coffee shop, and the guy walked in again, about the same time as yesterday. But someone was walking in behind him. Kristen.

"Hey Kristen!" I motioned her to come over. She same me and grabbed the boy's arm.

"Hey.." I said the to guy. He just avoided eye contact.

"Jonah, this is Chloe I was telling you about," Kristen looked at him.

"Is he your boyfriend?" I asked her.

"Yeah," she smiled.

"Oh," I didn't know what to say, "how long have you been dating?"

"Just a month or so."

"Okay.." I wasn't too sure about Jonah.

"I'm gonna order our coffees," Jonah told Kristen and walked up to the counter.

"Kristen.. Jonah hit on me yesterday, when I came here."

"What?"

"He hit on me. He smirked at me, asked if I was from around here, stuff like that. He seemed to like me until I showed him my engagement ring. I think it was then that it clicked to him who I was. Have you been telling him lots about me?"

"Yeah.. Oh my god," she got quieter as Jonah approached.

"Here," he handed her the drink. She smiled before pouring it over his head. He just stood there in shock. Good thing it was an iced coffee..

"You asshole," she spat.

"What did I do?!" He wondered, still shocked that she dumped coffee on him.

"You hit on my best friend.. while you're dating me. But guess what? We're not dating anymore. I can't trust you," she grabbed my arm and pulled me away. I quickly drank the rest of my coffee and threw it in a trash can as we walked out.

"What the fuck was that?" I asked her.

"I can't trust him to not be with other girls. I can't be with a guy I can't trust," she told me. I agreed. He was such an asshole and didn't deserve a girl like Kristen, who would be faithful to him no matter what. He went after a girl he had just met in a coffee shop.

"Let's go," we both got into my car since she had come in his car. She had grabbed her things out of his car, and we left to the campus.

------

Later that day, after getting home, I walked into the house to see Ashton in the living room.

"Hey babe.." He smiled. I didn't hear Kaely playing. Was she napping? I didn't know.

"Ashton, where's my child?" I asked him.

"With your mum. She came by today and wanted to take her to her house since she hasn't gotten to since I've been home," he explained.

"Okay. When should I go get her?"

"Actually, about now. Do you want me to go?" He began to get up.

"No, that's okay. I'll go get her. I want to talk to my mum," I told him, "and the way.. The guy that hit on me was Kristen's boyfriend. They're broken up now though.."

"What? What happened?"

I explained to him about what happened in the coffe shop, even the part about Kristen pouring her iced coffee over Jonah's head.

"Oh my god.." Ashton gaped.

"I feel bad, but at least she found out she can't trust him now, instead of a year into the relationship," I said, and Ashton agreed with me. I'm glad Kristen's not with that asshole anymore.

I grabbed my shoes, coat, and keys before going out to my car. I drove to my mum's house in silence for no apparent reason. I just didn't feel like listening to music or anything at the moment. It was just two minutes to myself to think.. I thought about what had happened in the coffee shop, to the wedding that was only slightly more than a month away.

When I got to my parent's house, only a few minutes away, I walked in without knocking. They'll know it's me.

As I walked in, I heard a song playing, on repeat.. It sounded like a female country singer. Carrie Underwood, maybe? Mum always listened to her. It didn't sound like one of the regular songs she listened to, but a new one.

"Mama you taught me to do the right things. So now you have to let your baby fly. You've given me everything that I will need to make it through this crazy thing called life. And I know you watched me grow up, and only want what's best for me. And I think I've found the answer to your prayers.

And he is good.. So good. He treats your little girl like a real man should. He is good, so good. He makes promises he keeps. No, he's never gonna leave, so don't you worry about me. Don't you worry about me.

Mama, there's no way you'll ever lose me. Giving me away is not goodbye. As you watch me walk down to my future, I hope tears of joy are in your eyes 'cause he is good, so good. And he treats your little girl like a real man should. He is good, so good. He makes promises he keeps. No, he's never gonna leave. So don't you worry about me. Don't you worry about me.

And when I watch my baby grow up, I'll only want what's best for her. And I'll hope she'll find the answer to my prayers and that she'll say, 'he is good, so good. And he treats your little girl like a real man should. He is good, so good. He makes promises he keeps, and he's never gonna leave. So don't you worry about me. Don't you worry about me.' Mama don't you worry about me. Don't you worry about me.." (A/N: one of my fave songs..)

Mum stopped the song. She began to play a different one. I didn't want her to know I had been there for a while, so I opened the door and slammed it, but not too loud. She came walking over to me.

"Hey Chloe!" She exclaimed, hugging me.

"Hey mum," I smiled.

"Where's Kaely?" I asked her.

"She's upstairs, taking a nap," she told me. She only took naps when she was really tired during the day.

"Okay. I'm going to get her, if that's alright."

"Yeah, go ahead," she smiled at me.

I ran upstairs and took Kaely from on her bed here, since she has her own room here. I must've accidentally woke her up because her eyes opened slowly, looking up at me.

"Hey sweetie," I smiled at her.

"Hi mummy," she smiled back and stood up. I held her hand as we walked back downstairs. Mum was in the kitchen once more. She still had music playing. Dad walked into the kitchen and switched the song.

"There's two things I know for sure. She was sent here from heaven, and she's daddy's little girl. As I dropped to my knees by her bed at night, she talked to Jesus, and I closed my eyes. And I thank god for all of the joy in my life, oh, but most of all..

For butterfly kisses after bedtime prayers, sticking little white flowers all up in her hair. 'Walk beside the pony, daddy, it's my first ride.', 'I know the cake looks funny, daddy, but I should try it.' Oh, with all that I've done wrong, I must've done something right to deserve a hug in the morning and butterfly kisses at night.

Sweet sixteen today. She's looking like her mama a little more everyday. One part woman, the other part girl. To perfume and makeup from ribbons and curls. Trying her wings out in a great big world. But I remember..

Butterfly kisses after bedtime prayers, sticking little white flowers all up in her hair. 'You know how much I love you daddy, but if you don't mind.. I'm only gonna kiss you on the cheek this time.' Oh, with all that I've done wrong, I must've done something right to deserve her love every morning and butterfly kisses at night.

All the precious time.. Like the wind the years go by. Precious butterfly, spread your wings and fly.

She'll change her name today. She'll make a promise, and I'll give her away. Standing in the bride room, just staring at her. She asks me what I'm thinking, and I said, 'I'm not sure. I just feel like I'm losing my baby girl.' She leaned over.

Gave me butterfly kisses with her mama there. Sticking little white flowers all up in her hair. 'Walk me down the aisle, daddy. It's just about time. Does my wedding gown look pretty, daddy? Daddy, don't cry.' Oh, with all that I've done wrong, I must've done something right to deserve her love every morning and butterfly kisses.

I couldn't ask God for more. And this is what love is! I know I've gotta let her go, but I'll always remember.. Every hug in the morning and butterfly kisses.."

The song made me cry, thinking of how my dad played it. I applied the song to what was happening now, with him and me. I did the same with the song mum played. They both listened to songs about me getting married.. I had an idea.

"Mummy, are you okay?" Kaely saw me crying.

"No, baby, mummy's fine. She's happy," I told her and laughed a little. I wiped away tears and walked into the kitchen. Kaely jumped into dad's arms and I hugged mum. we then switched.

"Bye mum, bye dad," I smiled at them, taking Kaely's hand. We walked out of the house and drove back home.

We walked in, and Kaely ran towards her playroom after saying hello to Ashton. I walked to the living room and placed myself in the seat right next to Ashton, and began to speak.

"I have another idea for the wedding."
