Blood Sucker: By lovechild777
Genre: Vampire, Fantasy, and Romance
Chapters: Currently nine including prologue and author notes
Recommended Audience: Those above the age of sixteen.
Description: Cold. Dark. Alone. 16 year old Alicia's life changes drastically when unexpected changes happen when she discovers she isn't who she thinks she is.
Whoo, first time I've read or seen a book about vampires. Now normally I stay away from anything related to vampires because the cliche of vampires sucking blood is a part of the fictional monster themselves, which means I'll see the same thing over and over. Mosquitoes suck blood, why are they considered vampires, maybe they are the real vampires. Films like Hotel Transylvania didn't use the traditional suck your blood gimmick, they made fun of it yes, but Dracula himself used magic. Of course he could turn into a bat, something I don't quite understand but some things don't make sense in this world. For example, why does Blood Sucker not have more attention than it deserves and do so little people discuss it? Currently the book sits at 1.35k reads and 291 stars, you outperform my book by such a large amount that I may be a bit jealous my good sir or madame. Now the chapters were lengthy but not extremely lengthy for my taste, I can handle an extensive chapter. So let's get this vampire party started, hope you an appetite for blood and a decent review!
1. Writing Style ✍
I enjoyed the text I was obligated to repeatedly read for this review. The writing was casual and the expression that possessed the text was unbelievably effective. The text, just like a book I previously reviewed was nice and simple for the reader to comprehend. The writing style felt elegant and descriptive, there are so many examples of this beautiful text that I just decided to list eight examples to get you guys and girls familiar with it.
SPOILERS AHEAD! VERY CRUCIAL!
"I wiped the tears rolling down my cheeks and got my black dress out of the bag."
(Chapter One)
"My chestnut brown hair flowed down to my shoulders as my blue eyes sparkled and my dress exposed my tummy."
(Chapter One)
"A strong, pungent smell of blood wafted through the air as I stared in the horror at the bright, scarlet liquid trickling down my neck. Blood!"
(Chapter Two)
"Goosebumps appeared all over my skin as I sat on the cold, damp floor.
(Chapter Two)
"Anger and hatred flared onto Arias' face."
(Chapter Three)
"Priya's face went an upsetting shade of red as she screamed."
Very lovely and I didn't see any problems with this style of writing so good job.
2. Plot📖 (Spoiler Alert!)
So the plot can be a bit difficult for some readers to understand. The plot follows sixteen year old Alicia who discovers she is a Blood Keeper, which means once she turns sixteen, when she falls asleep a woman named Vera will enter her dreams can guide the sleeper to her tomb so she can be free. Definitely some Freddy Krueger material.
So since Alicia is turning sixteen, Vera is able to enter her dreams and control her. Why sixteen, I'm not sure. So I loved the plot, Alicia needed to team up with others like her while those other vampires search for a being named Serafine to prove her innocence and compel Alicia. The plot is unpredictable, just as any plot should and it keeps the reader as we dive deeper into the characters. I didn't find anything wrong with the plot, but I don't know why the curse is implanted at the age of sixteen, maybe Vera needs a pure being to open her tomb? I'll tell you one thing though, I'll have onions and staves ready just in case.
3. Characters
Ah the characters, they can be good, they can be awful, in this case, they were good. Each character felt unique to me, Mason was currently a handful and hothead Aria was enjoyable. I couldn't get enough of Mason's attitude, but when you overuse him, his actions become predictable. I'm not saying he should become less of his character near the end, but don't strip him of what he is.
Priya and Aria were unpredictable to me as I didn't see a set personality to them, but that's good because the reader can't predict their actions. Keep it up!
4. Environmental and Character Descriptions 🏞👁
The descriptions were probably the best about this book. The descriptions were specific, just reading gave me chills and I mean that in a good way. I mean, I take descriptions very seriously and this book filled my lust for descriptions. Such smooth use of vocabulary. I was able to picture the characters and environments perfectly. Such examples include...
I put it on, wore my black heels and wore a necklace that had a black diamond in the middle.
(Chapter One)
"Her silky, brown hair flowed down to her shoulders, her mysterious brown eyes intrigued anyone who looked at them and her strawberry, red lips and rosy cheeks."
(Chapter Two)
"He smirked, his wavy, brown hair getting in the way of his dark, red eyes."
(Chapter Two)
There are plenty more, but I can't spend the entire review like this. you've already done so, go read the book for yourself, you know, after you finish reading this review of course.
5. Originality💡
So of course this isn't the first vampire book on Wattpad, heck it's not the first vampire book in general. The cliche of one person being able to trigger a special event or is the key for something important is used. I won't lie, Mason felt a bit cliche because of his "bad boy" attitude. But the way the author reshaped these cliches into something original is what comes to my attention. Instead of turning into bats, the characters drive. I'm glad the author didn't throw the most obvious features of vampire besides sucking blood into the story.
6. Overall Tone🎭
I definitely enjoyed myself while reading nine chapters of this story. It was interesting to see the different views of the characters and how they see things. The POV set a tone for themselves and you certainly nailed it. I felt suspense and humor within the story and the characters, along with a mix of other emotions.
Now that I have went through every judging criteria, it is time to see where this book stands in my opinion. Let's get to the ranking before these vampires suck me completely dry.
Rating Score: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Aww yes, the golden five stars. A rating first given to a short story. I originally planned on four stars in a half but then I thought that didn't quite fit my opinion. The only thing that prevented a golden crown was the insane amount of errors concerning space and the use of possession like Jake's pool. I commented on the ones I could find so if the book has a lot of comments, I contributed to that.
Be sure to read, star, and comment Blood Sucker and I'll see you lovely people next time on my overlooked book reviews! 😁
